yeah im having a blast with ff13. i just wish that you could switch leaders during battles. thats the only thing i dont like. and thats not even a big thing. I still gotta get demon’s souls.
Fuck, Heavy Rain is messing with my head already and I’m barely out of the first scene
I was trying to hold off until I got my Bioshock 2 platinum but I figured with MM10 on my drive, GoW3 coming out, and FFXIII sitting on my shelf now still in the plastic, I need to start knocking some of these games out of the way.
Too many damn good games to play.
Exactly how I feel.
Still need to finish Infamous, Killzone2, Heavy Rain and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Not to mention FFXIII. Not only that but GoWIII is coming out in like 2 days…
Also have a bunch of ps2 games to go through, currently playing Okami. And tbh it’s boring as fuck. And it made me realize why I never liked Zelda games.
Yeah, I tried hard to like Okami… I even bought it twice (PS2 and then Wii). Still haven’t played more than about 5 hours of it.
I’ve still got KZ2 floating around as well, Prototype, Darksiders and Dante’s Inferno, too. :’( Not enough time in the day! I’m going to try to convince my girlfriend to let me retire, and she can be my sugar momma.
You aren’t going to notice 5.1 or 7.1 sound unless you have the actual equipment to take advantage of it.
i’m gonna have to agree, the motion blur and the blurryness of the first two games makes my eyes fatigued. I hope if they do it, they fix all that stuff and improve the loading times from the first game.
I have a 4.1 setup right now, thinking about going to 5.1 for the center speaker (blu-ray movies)
However, I’d like to hear how others have setup their audio, just to see…and if anyone had any tips for working with the evo monitor.
I have my going through a receiver and have 5.1 so everything is done by my equipment. I have everything going thru HDMI, and when my kid and wifey are asleep I have a set of headphones hooked up via optical cable to get dolby digital in my headphones.
What kind of speakers do you have specifically? How is it powered?
Why the hell is your av so familiar? Does it have something to do with F.E.A.R. 2?
I got Demon’s Souls yesterday…that game is so awesome. Crazy addictive.
Got RE5 Gold Edition from Amazon today (actually it came in yesterday). But that ish’s gonna have to wait until I’m done with Yakuza. Based on the Trophies I think I’m half-way through, but I wish this shit would never end.
Fucking Honda Headbutt into Abel Crack Shot = best goddamn Heat move ever (in looks & versatility).
I have these Altec Lansings from a decade ago that are for my computer. 2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers. Everything plugs into the subwoofer, and the subwoofer has 2 aux outputs, one for the primary front speakers and one for the back speakers. My monitor only accepts one of these small jacks (same size as headphones), so whenever my friend brings over his ps3, I’m playing on 2.1 sound. I don’t really need the rear speakers for SF4 but for other games it would be nice. Still though I’m probably gonna get a 5.1 setup just cuz these current speakers are far from the best.
I’m not sure I have the money for a dedicated receiver, as I really only plan on playing on this 23’ monitor in my room…so I wanted to know if like, a 5.1 pc setup was doable and whatnot. Would I have to buy converters for the red/white inputs, what are my optical cable choices, etc…
You said your headphone were connected via an optical cable; I don’t suppose there’s a link where I could learn more about that kinda stuff? Is that optical cable you’re using able to be plugged straight into the ps3, without having to go to the receiver?
FF13 is much better than I expected it to be after all the trash-talking from the import crowd. The battle system is spectacular, there’s a lot of strategy and timing involved. As for the story, it’s pretty good with just a few moments of filler/emo that don’t do it for me. So far it’s still got my interest (50 hours in) but there have been some WTF? moments as certain aspects get glossed over, ignored, or abruptly added. It seems obvious to me (even without already knowing that they had cut quite a bit out) that they had much much more content and story than they got to tell.
Regardless, I’ve enjoyed this FF more than any of the others since FFVII. The battle system is hands-down the best of any FF, and the story (while different) has a Xenogears-like vibe to it. No towns and long(long(long)) intro bring it down a couple notches, but I’d still give this an 88-90 if I were a real reviewer.
Umm Sazh ALWAYS starts off with Haste when I have him as a Syn, same goes with Hope.
Agreed with leader swapping in battles. Or at least, share the techniques that other characters have learned and/or summons. Oh and throwing a Phoenix Down/casting raise on you whenever possible.
Tyson loves MLB the show, and Clint has also been quoted as saying how good it is. I am not a baseball game player, but I’ve only heard great things.
It’s only linear story wise. The maps are circles and all sorts of stuff. You’d be surprised. It’s nice to not have towns, I could give a shit about towns. I mean if you want to get technical, it’s the purest form of a role playing game. You are in a role and play that role throughout the story. It keeps on moving and never really feels stale.
One thing is neat, is that when you are actually in a town (yeah, there are towns, but like no world map to go and visit new towns, naw mean?) When you run by people they just speak. You don’t have to hit X. Its pretty cool to run around and just hear people talking.
I mean it’s still the same ol’ save the world from something something something Square jive, but I’m not rolling my eyes during cut scenes like I was in WKCs. The VCs are very very good. Surprisingly good in fact. I’m also really digging the weapon upgrade system. It’s like they finally figured out how to add the farming crap from FF11 to a game without making it totally boring.
With a few tweaks FF13 could be one of those rare almost perfect games. Gambits alone would have made it a ten for me. Shifting is very fun and makes battles exciting and challenging at the same time. Even when I’m power leveling my mans I can’t just zone out and mash on X without shifting because Hope might have 5 robots attack him at once and almost be dead.
So yeah, FF13 is fun. Looks real purdy too.
On Tuesday imma cop dat RoF gunplay version (not the steam powered robot version)
I have to get new glasses too, my eyes are so fucked.

Do the headphones connect to the optical port in the ps3? Or does the headphones have an optical in port? Regardless can you recommend any that are decent in price?
So i got Bad Company 2, man what an awesome game, it is a nice change of peace compared to MW2, now i need to find my mic and will be ready to go.
You’re not going to be able to enjoy 5.1 without the proper set up.
For my setup, the optical cable bypasses my reciever but goes into something called a mixamp, which decodes the 5.1 and puts it through my head phones.
I just want to clarify that there isn’t really a cheap way to do this. You’re gonna put some money down, whether you get a set up like mine or do one of those home-theaters-in-a-box.
I got my headphones and mixamp from astrogaming.com. It’s a good all around solution to sound problems if you use a PC and your game systems but don’t have a receiver. First, you could go get a set of 5.1 computer speakers from some where like best buy with an optical output (this is important) and actually get dolby digital 5.1 for your computer and your ps3 via the mixamp. The basic way it works is that you run the optical cable from your ps3 or PC to the mixamp, rather than plugging it into your monitor. The mixamp decodes the audio stream and pushes it to whatever device you have pluggled into it. It operates independently of the monitor and basically acts like a mini receiver.
The mixamp decodes everything, and since you could use the mixamp with PC speakers, you would just plug them into the head phone jack of the mixamp. The second (I don’t know if this would even apply to you) is that if you need to play at night and want to use headphones so you don’t bother anyone, you can still get great audio by using the astro headphones and the mixamp without disturbing your set up. The headphones have a mic and everything so if you play CoD or something, people will be able to hear you. And the mic is fucking QUALITY. It’s shocking how good it sounds. The mixamp feeds your voice into the headphones as well so you’re aware of how loud you’re talking. That way you aren’t screaming at the people you’re playing with because you know how loud you’re talking.
Now, that’s gonna cost some change. The headphones and mixamp alone are 250, but for what I needed, they were worth the price. They’re fucking awesome and I have no complaints.
If headphones and the mixamp aren’t going to work for you, I’d do something like this. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/224&cl=us,en
It’s not cheap, but it’s a set up that let’s you take advantage of dolby digital and DTS, it has an on board 5.1 decoder. If you’re watching blurays and want to take advantage of uncompressed audio, then the playstation will do the decoding and you’ll get even better sound. Since the speakers are powered independently by being plugged into a wall you do not need a receiver and since the speakers and the ps3 have sound decoders, you don’t need a receiver. The only reason this would work as I’ve specified, however, is because this setup has optical. That’s the key to getting the dolby digital sound.
Now, the speaker set I linked would probably be a cheaper route for you overall, and a friend of mine has those speakers, so I can tell you they sound pretty fucking good. And as a general, all around solution, you’re getting really good quality for that price. It isn’t cheap by any means, but it’s easy and it’s a lot better than those “home-theater-in-a-box” deals you see, like this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882115198&cm_re=5.1_speaker_system--82-115-198--Product
Check the first review. That thing doesn’t support 5.1 at all, just pro logic II and he says he hears no difference between his system and somebody he knows who has a 2500 dollar system from Bose. Now, whether Bose is worth the high price is debatable, but what isn’t debatable is that pro logic II is better than 5.1. It’s not, and it’s pretty inferior comparitively speaking. That guy doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about.
Anyway, I can give you some more info if none of this makes sense.
edit Looks like amazon has the logitech speakers cheaper and with free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-THX-Certified-505-Watt-Digital-Surround/dp/B0002WPSBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268660200&sr=8-1 $372 and some change. Get an optical cable from monoprice.com for like 2 bucks and you’re set.
The Astro headphones are great, but they were a little bit out of my budget.
I bought a pair of Turtle Beach X41’s. Build quality, the Astro’s look ALOT better (I think the A40 is the popular model?). But from the reviews I’ve seen I supposdly get the same quality if not a tad better bass from the TB’s. That isn’t from personal experience, just from reviews (and you know how shoddy people can be with defending their purchase). I can say from personal experience even though the TB’s look a bit cheap they feel very, very comfortable. They’re light, well padded and of course you have the added bonus of them actually being wireless! Battery life is great, mic quality is great. BUT if you are buying for use specifically with the PS3 and require microphone usage, you won’t get it from these. The mic is built specifically for use with the Xbox 360. You get simulated surround sound and the usual stuff, but you cannot use the microphone with the PS3 due to it connecting by a cable to the 360 controller.
They are also Dobly Pro Logic 2. I agree with what RC has said and anybody that says simulated surround sound is better than ACTUAL surround sound is an idiot. However I find when it comes to headphones simulated do the job very, very well. If you’re going to buy a speaker system, get the real deal.
Like right after saying that I fought with Sazh and he was hasting like crazy. lol my false statement. Still, being able to set up gambits would have been amazing.
Z-5500 is going to produce VERY good sound. That’s a very good recommendation for a reasonably-priced, good-quality sound system, it’s what I used to have before hurricane Ivan decided he wanted them for himself.
Right now, I’m runningthese, that I picked up on a Sony sale for $213 shipped, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s got 3 optical in, 3 hdmi in, component in, etc. It’s nice for a HTIB setup, to be honest, especially for the price that I got it at.
RC’s putting you on the right track for sure - good advice up there.
