The Official PS3 thread

Sweet! I’m getting this, then.

Just wanted to give some quick impressions on Splatterhouse-
Looking back at the classic games for the Arcade and Genesis, I find that the series main flare is it’s horror theme. In the first 2 games the combat and gameplay didn’t have much standing out I feel.
This is sort of seen when you play the game. Combat-wise it doesn’t feature anything we may not have seen in any action game before it. There is blood and gore though it may not satisfy some people if you’re OK with them.
The game actually has 2D segments with ‘platforming’ but they’re pretty basic.
Oh and there are 4 pieces of a picture you can find in each stage that form a picture of…Jennifer either topless or naked (yum~!)

The voice actor for the Terror/Hell Mask is VERY familiar, he voiced some cartoon characters in the past but I don’t remember his name.

Anyways, the game is worth a rent at least, but if you liked it and feel it’s worth it, buy the game.

Although Home is still a buggy piece of shit, the load times are really fast now.

Darksiders is really boring and sloppy. It’s GoW II’s Story line/Game play but with Zelda Mechanics/Weapon System. Which sounds fun in theory, but its not. There are too many commands to remember and they’re all awkwardly mapped. You’ll end up fumbling over your self a lot when trying to do shit. Which is especially annoying during boss fights. Also, how they pan out the story is just really boring. Mark Hamill’s character is the only thing that kept me interested cause he was basically Midna from Twilight Princess (just a lot more mean)

The voice acting is fun though.

I enjoyed Darksiders. It has ABOSLUTLY no original ideas but I thought it pulled them off pretty well and was fun over all. It can get a bit convoluted at times witht he control scheme tho.

Has anyone tried out the new Micheal Jackson game out yet? Heard it comes with a glove and I assume it’s a move game. Edit: Mah fault. It does not come out till the 23rd.

is there any game that you just not like at all?

We have Boxing Day sales, most people buy electronics then because they get so cheap.

I’m waiting for Best Buy to do their buy 2 get 1 free deals that they usually have every December. Then Imma cop GT5, Black Ops and 2K11.

Picked up Arkham Asylum today, albeit a little late to the party. Went to the store looking for it and the only used copies didn’t have the original box etc. Then the guy comes back and shows me the collector’s edition which has sat in the back room since release. Copped it for only $50 and pre-ordered GT5.

Yea there are a lot of games I don’t like. I just don’t expect all my purchases to blow my mind. I expect them to entertain me or a while. Last game I bought that I really really hated had to be Final Fantasy XIII. It had a lot of ideas I really liked but it was very slow, boring and plodding, I hated everyone and everytime they gave me a really cool new toy to play with they took it away from me. Made me mad.

Hey Col Sanders. Your in for an awesome ass game.

Word. It’s still pretty fun, though. I still have no hope for the Gameplay in DmC.

I rented Star Wars:TFU II because BB didn’t have NFS or The Sly Collection. After I beat this game I’ll be looking to play yet another action game; Splatterhouse. I don’t like the art-style or VA’s in the new Splatterhouse, it makes it sound like a B horror film or something. If they had a much darker art style(like the older games) and VA’s that didn’t sound horrible the game would be a lot more appealing to me, but I’m going to play it anyway.

lol, hes like the axact opposite of me. i cant even name 5 really good next games. gt5 might be the first one for me.

So the series was never an equivalent of a B-horror film?

Hey guys at around 1:14 est Vanquish is going to be on sale for 45 dollars on Amazon.

Lt. Col. Sanders - One of the best games for my PS3 as well as the most fulfilling Platinum Achievements that I earned. Story is awesome, gameplay is very simple and yet complex. Combat Challenges are where it’s at (once you level up). I think the last time that i checked I was #77 for Sewer Bat Extreme.

basically, you’re not pessimistic.

def coppin Joe Danger, the demo was hella fun.
thoughts on Gundemonium? that’s a great price for it.

I guess. I like to think that I’m more willing to enjoy something for it’s strengths instead of let it faults eat at me endless. Of course the strengths have to be around for the larger part of the game. If the stuff thats wrong with it jhust never go away or pop up frequently enough to sour the expirence then it will.

A good example of this is Ninja Gaiden II. When the game works its so amazingly fun to play. It feels brilliant. The problem is the parts that suck or are just flat out not fun to play pop up so fequentrly that you never go long without that issues rearing their ugly heads.

LOS on the other hand has a reletivly slow start and some frustraing sequences during the first 3 or so hours but after that it’s about 10 to 15 hours of really fun gameplay with the flaws shgowing thm, self only a handful of times during the rest fo the game (And one big flaw at the end…stupid titans.) But more often then not the game was fun to play then it was annoying to deal with.

Every game is like this in my opinion. I can think of only a hand full of games that have no flaws in them (for me) and are just pure gaming bliss. I don’t expect or even want every single game to be like this. Games with flaws tend to have their own interesting personalities and quirks and the flaws can be a part of that. God Hand is an amazing game I personally love the really bland graphics of the game. They fit the obsurdity of the game. Make it feel more like a comic book. Like how the important parts are the characters and not the shit around them just like comic books. Their horrible graphics but in a way i think they work really well.

Anyway I just don’t expect everything to blow me away. I expect it to entertain me for a while and be fun. Thats about it. People just expect too much from them these days.

^this mentality can frustrate me at times. Plus I find it “LOLable”.

It’s the 21st century. It’s damn near 2011. It’s a fucking next gen console. Why the hell would you NOT expect more from these games?

2D gaming is practically on a dialysis machine, everything is either HD or in 3D, you don’t even have to leave your house anymore to play anyone, and were almost 5-8 (maybe longer) years from playing shit in VR (IMO). Are you serious, man?

Now, if it’s the classic franchise game like Madden, Megaman, and Call of Duty then of course there’s no reason to expect a “blow me away moment”, but what’s the excuse to not have something that does by now?

Really, that’s not even the point of it all of this. I’m just saying, what about games that aren’t even worth playing them all over again once you beat them (Red Dead Redemption, Dead Rising 2, GTA4) unless you forgot to do something? What happen to the games that had longevity? Playing “the game on hard” is not what I consider replay value. Unlocking stupid accomplishment trophies, like the “go to every store” in DR2, is not what I consider a moment of my time I would want to waste on achieving. How is that even an achievement in the first place? The “tame snowflake” is one thing, since I never saw that the first time through (and I killed SF before I knew what that was all about), but there’s the mixing foods for drinks— not too sure how I missed that the first time. yea, I stumbled upon that thr 2nd time through. I brought that up based on the fact that if it wasn’t for me wanting/ allowed to explore the game and not “stick to the schedule” I would’ve missed that. I can say that’s actual replay value but how long does that last?

Can you do that in LoS? No, but if you count the chupacabra bullshit “exploring” then ugh, I guess. Also, the level achievements aren’t discussed till after you beat the level and you never know if you missed something until then. So, you’re telling me NOW I gotta go back to get shit I never knew that was there in the first place? Forced Replay value?! O RLY? No, fuck that shit. How is that “fun”? That’s like going to work and your boss tells you to run and get some copies done for what ever reason but you gotta get it done before 12pm. Ok, you get the shit done in 52 minutes. your boss is like, “You got what I’ve asked for? Great! Excellent work, Samson” flips through work. Then later the fucker goes to your desk to tell you, “Oh, that’s right— you were actually suppose to take all of these copies, separate them, get 10 binders, and make sure that each binder has all the copies inside, then put them in the conference room while making sure everyone tells you what they want for lunch. Now, it’s 12:02… Tsk, tsk.” How fulfilling is that?

Like, most of these members in this thread love JRPG’s. That’s understandable. They’ve been around since NES. So, let’s do the math, if games like FF and Metal Gear Solid has been around since the mid to late 80’s, then why is games like WKC around? Why aren’t people fapping over FFXIII? Why is everybody bored with MGS by now? It’s been almost 30 years, man, you mean to tell me that FF7 and FFX is the best you can do?!

The problem is these companies only want to out do their last sales expectations while us gamers are expecting developers to “do the impossible then do it again”.

In our minds, these developers have already done “the impossible” but if you can do that then why try to do it again? Granted, it’s difficult but is it really all that difficult or is it because you’re an idiot that has no drive to be even more successful at what you do? It’s what I call the hunger vs past success situation.

Any of you picking up Pac Man CE DX tomorrow?

Uh…I just wanna have fun after a long day of work man…

No I really don’t expect every game I buy to blow me away and be the most amazing peice of whatever the fuck ever made by man. Like that shits fucking stupid. You’re setting yourself up for dissapointment. Like your grip about acheivments. Yea you shouldnm’t get an acheivment for booting the game up. That shits dumb. So is something assanine like “Visit every store.” But at the end of the day its just a fucking acheivment. At most it’s just a bunch of numbers an shit. If you think it’s a stupid acheivment…then don’t do it. That simple. I’m pretty sure the only game I ever got Platinum or whatever in for all the Trophies was Bayonetta and only because it actually gave me real in game shit like new weapons or a boss fight or something. I could care less about the trophie or acheivment. I got all the tapes and riddles in Arkhamn Asylum but never got all the riddle trophies cuz fetch quests are fucking boring. But the Riddles where fun to solve and the Tapes where cool to listen to. The trophies where a waste of my time so I didn’t go after them. If you think its a waste of time to go after something minor like that then don’t. No ones forcing you to do them.

For the Levels by LOS thats just giving you a reason to go back if you enjoyed the level or if you need to get a bit stronger by finding some gems. This is a stupid thing to bitch about. Your mad they give you more things to do after you beat a level? You’re mad they tell you what you missed after your ver4gin run of the level? We should be so lucky, DMC doesn’t even fucking tell you if you missed something in a chapter or not. They just go “Fuck you fgigure it out on your own.” Makes getting that last blue shard a real fucking pain in the balls.

As for MGS and FF being around so long so why are games like WKC around still? Cuz people make shitty games. WKC on my scale sits on “More fucking things suck about this game then are fun.” I’m not gona put a number rating on it or something cuz numbers mean shit. It’s just simple. That game fucking sucks. Too much about it blows. I don’t even know why you’re using MGS and FF as benchmarks since those games have changed a lot over the years as the creators tried new and unique ways to infuse new gameplay and styles into their games to keep them fresh and new feeling. It didn’t always work but they tried. It’s not like they Capcom’d it out and tried to sell us Megaman 1 with slight changes 500 times. They actually do try to mix it up and try new things.

Maybe I’m not understand what you getting at with that comparison.

As for our expectations, our expectations are retarded. We expect every single game to have the production values of Uncharted 2 or God of War while being the most amazingly fresh, new expirence we’ve ever expirenced every single time we buy a game and if its not then its garbage not worth our time blah blah spoiled brat bull shit. I dunno man thats just what most gamers sound like to be. Big old fuckin babies who bitch when its not exactly what they wanted. They let one or twwo little niggling things ruin the entire expirence for them. It’s sad. I really feel sad for these kinds of people. They miss out on a lot of fun wonderful stuff. But just means more for me which is cool. I’ll take my God Hands and Okami’s and CV Los’s and Bayonettas and so on and so fourth and continue to have funw hen I come home from work instead of being some bitter jaded guy who has half the fun I have. I work to much to stress over small bull shit.

This is why I hate the whole “Games aas art” movement. I’m not saying games arn’t art I’m just saying over all who gives a fuck? Games are first and formost toys,. Their supposed to entertain and distract us and let us relax during the times between the rest of all the times in our lives that suck and stress us out. Games are a really flexible toy that are able to do great things which is awesome, I can do some pretty amazing things with an Erector Set but you know Linkin Logs and Blocks are still pretty awesome to.

Edit: Ok I promis to stop posting walls of text while stoned. I’m sorry.
