The Official PS3 thread

I gotta get on that Fist demo and Im loving Sengoku Basara. with nin storm 2 just wait the boss battles are too good. Im about to do the sasuke/itachi fight but that Naruto/Kakazu fight was Krazy!! I s-ranked him but damn if he didn’t own me twice before.

anybody else not feeling that fotns game demo? what a fucking slow game. set demo on hard, got my ass beat by brother jacky twice. i dont remembetr dynasty warriors or sengoku basara being this hard on any difficulty (maybe i need to practice, only played tiwce). normally i always play on the hardest difficulty available unless its too hard for a beginner (which it normally never is, this isnt the nes/snes era). but this one, i either gotta figure the ghame out better or it really is a hard game.

I’m too lazy to go find the comparison shots and the details, but the game sticks to mostly 24 frames a second, and dips below that as well. Go into a large area and run around in a circle, then another small area that’s walled in and you will see a DRASTIC difference in frame rates. The game tends to chug when there are more effects on screen, which is to be expected, and the frame rate gets better as the game goes on from what I can tell. Nothing massive like the slow down you’d see from games back in the day, but it is readily apparent. The game is no where near 60 fps, for the record.

And when I’m refering to the shaky cam, I’m talking about literally not moving your character at all. You will seen the screen move, kind of like all the still shots in the Bourne movies. I’m not talking about it getting stuck in a wall or anything like that either. If they removed that bullshit shaking, I’d say it’s the best use of a fixed camera I’ve seen this generation.

My PS3 died on me this week, this is indeed a sad week. I would also like to mention Sony support can suck my dick as they did nothing to help. Pretty much my only option is to turn it into Gamestop for about 30 bucks and not have a PS3. There is no way I can afford another one anytime soon.

Yeah I actually did some research after you brought it up initially, and found that most people agree that the average is about 24fps, with vsync enabled to prevent tearing and help to stabilize the looks with the lower framerate. The comparison video I saw had FPS ranging from about 33 during a few uncontrollable scenes (for example, wolves jumping out and rawring at you), down to about 20, with an average of 24~25. I’ll see if I can find it again once I get home and have some time. I’ve also found around the web that the general consensus is that the 360 version has more (and more noticeable) framerate issues, so that could be a factor for anyone playing that version.

Personally, I’ve noticed a few odd times here and there where it felt a little choppy, but I’m talking like literally less than 5 times, with about 12 hours put in so far. Most of the slowdown I noticed was actually in the first few levels, now that you mention it. Like you said, it’s occasionally there, but thankfully not nearly game-breaking.

I’m quite enjoying the game, even with its technical flaws. It’s entertaining enough that it’s worth putting up with the few odd times that there are hiccups.

@jae: What kind of PS3 do you have?

I noticed this a lot on the swamp smog level when you have to take the bombs and throw them at the dead tree. if there’s more than four on the screen the FPS will drop and the camera shakes a bit. the way it stops if you command grab one of them to take the bomb away. It happen again on the W.Wolves level surround you after you get the light/onimusha soul grabber. It happen once again during the first boss battle which caused me to have problems timing my jumps when the boss slams both arms on the ground. As soon as it hits the ground, the frames would drop. last time I noticed it was during the first giant troll fight.

this happen the most to me during the maze and the broke crystal hunt. it was at it’s worse during the crystal hunt.

80 gig MGS4 Bundle PS3.

damn, Jae.

I almost bought that one on Amazon.

I guess the only downside to this 120 I got is CV forced me to update my PS3 just to even play the game.

fun times.

I’m about to send mine to Gophermods…see what they can do about the YLOD.
Mine is an old 60GB model.

Might as well say what it is doing, it is freezing every time it plays a game usually acouple minutes in.

Touche with respects to PoP. And yes, GoW was linear as well, but I hardly ever felt really restricted (or “boxed in”) with GoW, unlike with LoS.

My comment regarding the moves/combos being similar was more about the leveling upgrade system and the whip/chain mechanics that were in Lament of Innocence and the GoW games.

I haven’t had any issues with the camera thus far or encountered any noticable frame rate drops (I just started chapter 6 on the PS3 version), and I’m the type of gamer that likes exploring all the nooks and crannies of a level trying to find extra hidden stuff and areas whenever possible (without a guide my first playthrough).

I’m like you though, whenever I get a chance in any game to gaze and wonder at the scenery, I most certainly do. =)

I’m sending mine in for a second time in less than 7 months. Got the YLOD…again. And I even followed all their precautions and recommendations to minimize any occurrence of a YLOD from occurring again. Not happy about that at all.

Hopefully it was just my fan that bit the dust this time, but I have a feeling the thermal paste didn’t hold (I noticed the screen flashing purple very briefly on occasion for about a month before it kicked the bucket again). My 360 did the same thing (brief purple screen flashing) before the RLOD.

Sounds like your blu-ray drive might be finally biting the dust unfortunately. =\

In that case…might as well get a new one.

Yeah and it is a 100 dollar fix on Gophermods which of course I do not have.

Seeing everybody’s PS3 bite it at once is really bothering me. I mainly use mine for blu ray so I was wondering if there are any precautions I can take to extend the life of the system. I have one fo the 80 gig bc ones and if it wasn’t for the BC I probably wouldn’t even have my ps3. Suggestions?

Yeah that is 350 I do not have unfortunately.

I’m sorry to hear that bud. I’m trying to get rid of my extra 80 gig MGS4 Bundle PS3 so if you’re interested shoot me a PM. You shouldn’t deprive yourself of one!

Yeah I know.
If mine is indeed DOA…I’ll be out of a PS3 well into next year.

Shitty because I signed up for Plus.

I know how you feel. The worst part is all the data is gone. Thats why you have to back up your data every so often. Also you lose one activation on your psn account too. Lame

If I had the money I would trust me, I can’t come up with 100s of dollars at one time.
