This week…has been about 17% and 26% hands raping me on the river. I’ve been playing poker for about half a year now and never have I seen something like this tackle me with sucha force.
edit: pardon my rant

2nd Final table in 2 days, this is a little 80 man PLHE tourney, $20+2. Shady_Flip on FTP
Taken from 2+2 this morning. Read this hand and keep in mind it’s at a Party BBJ table.
Party Poker 2/4 Hold’em (10 handed) Preflop: Heroine is BB with 9d, 9h.
2 folds, UTG+2 calls, 1 fold, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, 1 fold, Button calls, SB completes, Heroine checks.
Flop: (6 SB) 9s, Tc, 9c (6 players)SB checks, Heroine bets, UTG+2 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, Button calls, SB calls.
Turn: (4.50 BB) Jc (3 players)SB checks, Heroine bets, Button raises, SB folds, Heroine 3-bets, Button calls.
River: (10.50 BB) Qc (2 players)Heroine bets, Button raises, Heroine 3-bets, Button caps, Heroine calls.
Final Pot: 18.50 BB
Results: Heroine has 9d 9h (four of a kind, nines).
Button has 7c 8c (straight flush, queen high).
Outcome: Button wins 18.50 BB.
Since this was a Bad Beat Jackpot table, it’s not just that Heroine lost the hand. Losing the hand on the turn would have netted her the Bad Beat Jackpot, which at the time would have meant at least $40,000 for her. That 1 outer on the river cost her the jackpot.
This is by far the worst beat I’ve ever heard in my entire life. I’m seriously on tilt just having read that.
Bahahaha I would commit suicide right there.
Viscant I’m moving to party soon, are you still playing 3-6 or 5-10 or have you moved up yet?
Viscant you must make a ton of money.
My brother won 500 bucks lastnight in some tourny on partypoker and he doesnt even like poker.
I play anywhere from 2/4 to 5/10 depending on the site. For example, the Paradise 2/4 game is so donked out that I’ve proven I can make more playing 2/4 there than 3/6 and the bonus clears at the same rate. Whereas the Absolute 5/10 game is easier than the 3/6 game. Etc, etc. I have the bankroll to be playing 10/20 but I’m not ready for that yet. I’ve tried that game a few times and gotten slaughtered every time, so I still have work to do before I make the jump.
People think I make a lot more than I really do. Counting affiliate money, casino winnings, live poker winnings and online poker winnings I made less than $50,000 last year and my tax bill for the year (even with crazy deductions) rounds out at around $10,000. So I mean…all in all, it’s just like having a normal job.

yea i noticed the 2-4 at absolute clears faster than 3-6 and 5-10. So I only play 2-4 at absolute.
Is the jump from 5-10 to 10-20really that bad? I mean…I’ve played about 6k hands of 5-10 over the last little while and it doesnt seem that much tougher than 2-4. I still only have a 5-10 roll but I was thinking of taking a shot at 10-20…but youa ren’t the only person to tell me that there’s a huge difference…
The extra aggression in the game was what really seemed to do me in. Every hand turned into some kind of an adventure and it turned me passive. I started missing critical value bets, started calling down way more often because the potential for someone making a move on me was much higher. It just felt like I was always behind the curve.
I recommend playing 5/10 6max games before making the jump to 10/20. The extra aggression of a short handed game will get you used to it and the dollar swings. I haven’t taken another shot that high in a couple months. I’ve been slumping lately so I haven’t even considered going up again. Maybe once I start running better and get better used to Gametime++ stats.

I’m thinking the next time I get a 50 BB win at 5-10 in a session, I’m gonna take my shot at 10-20, but it hasn’t happened for a month or so, everytime I get close I break back down…it’s not cool.
I still don’t have the roll for 5-10 short, I dunno why but I decided to play tourneys and heads up matcheslike crazy this month, so I haven’t really put much time into my limit game. But yea, I’ll give 5-10 short a run once I get my roll up to 6k or so.
i’d just like to say 6-max is the shit. it’s basically all i’ve been playing recently, it’s very fun.
You’re a fucking retard. I cant stress that enough. What if you’re playing someone thats a maniac and raises every pot. Does this mean theres a 1 / 2 chance they have aces every single hand? Shut the fuck up.
Take someone like Gus Hansen who is known to play ANY 2 cards as if they were aces. Your arguement is beyond shitty.
What about people who never change their betting patterns no matter what they have?
You’re the dumbest piece of shit ever. Holy fuck. I cant believe how fucking stupid you are. You sound like “Wow someone raised what the book said!! HE MUST HAVE ACES!!! ZOMG FOLD INSTANTLY!!!”
You fucking tool.
People really underestimate the skill jump from 5/10 to 10/20…it’s quite drastic.
been playing a bunch of 30/60 the past few days
did anyone actually buy any tickets for partys march madness??
bad beat story warning…:
omg poker is so stupid sometimes. so while i’m drying my laundry i decide to play for about an hour, or however long it takes my sngs to finish. i open two cash games and two sngs.
in the cash games i’m doing well, taking down small and medium pots and building an aggressive rep. then in one sng, a guy limps utg and a late position player goes all in for ~1500 with the blinds at 10/20. i decide he doesn’t show KK AA enough for this to be a -ev call with QQ so i call in the BB with QQ. he shows AA and we both flop a set. kinda funny more than anything.
then in a cash game, utg limps, i raise 4x BB with QQ, some fish calls on the button with KTo, flop comes T high and we get it all in, turn is a T! i swear all the fish come out to swim at around 3-4 pm.
then in the last sng the blinds get to 200/400 with 8 people still left. i steal enough to almost guarantee itm, then i overcome the chip leader heads up to win. despite all of this bullshit, i still made way more than i would all weekend at my last job in less than an hour, only 4-tabling. i’m going to go throw up now.
any suggestions on where to play??
so far i’ve tried
golden riveria - just for the free 50$, didnt really like it, except for when i wanted to play 5stud for fun
bodog - i dont really like the way out or the feel and i dont understand how the tourneys work, and sports betting can get addictive to quickly
pokerroom - my fav - nice graphics, easy to use
full tilt - i dont like the way it feels or the layout, but i did deposit 600 for the free 600, and i lose more than the bonus is covering :(, ive been playing 1/2 limit there, maybe i should just play small NL? or try playing 2/4?
next on my list to try are…
pokerstars
partypoker
ultimatebet - 100% up to 500$
hollywoodpoker - doesnt this site have a nice bonus for signing up?
anyone have any suggestions on where to start? where the best place to bonus whore?
dude how much do u have now???
uhh… maybe we’ll discuss the figures on aim sometime lol. for now i’ll say that the figure i told u last time is only the amount i have in the stars cashier. close to 3/4 of my “roll” is in my bank account. i also cash out a lot. for instance i bought a new guitar recently and i’m gonna get an ipod soon. and any and all money i make this week i’m cashing out to spend frivolously during vacation next week. gotta hit up the strip club and smoke up with my peeps.
I’ll ask again: do you actually play poker?
Yes, there are cases where crazy maniacs will play any two cards like AA. That doesn’t happen too often and those people are very easy to spot. Poker is situational, but if you don’t know the situation assuming your opponent is a crazed maniac is not a good plan.
The average poker player bluffs at a fairly small rate. Given no other information you should assume your opponent is average.
I will point this out again: your analysis that aces are only dealt 1/200+ hands is insanely retarded. I’m sure any other poker player in this thread would point that out if they felt it was worth their time.
Betting patterns are the only source of information in online poker, and you are advocating ignoring them.
Let me ask you this again:
Pre-flop I bet with A3. Someone calls. Next person raises. I call that raise. The original caller goes all in. The raiser calls the all in. What do I do now? Call or fold?
Call or fold, what is your answer?
Your logic seems to be that A3 is statistically likely to be the best vs. two other random hands so you should call. That is clearly not the right answer here except in very special circumstances. This is why I find it hard to believe you actually play poker at all. Your analysis is just plain moronic and doesn’t work.
The real analysis here is that for someone to smooth-call the original bet then raise all in after a raise behind them they most likely have a huge hand and that your A3 is going to be the worse hand here by a longshot the vast majority of the time.
That’s my final point on this subject. I don’t think you know how to play poker at all.
