The Official Poker Thread

so, basically its not really a strategic move as it is an action move. nothing i would EVER do, i play to strategically. ten years of serious magic playing, i take competition serious, to me i play poker for the mental competition, not the goal of fame and fortune…

See, that’s why I was asking because I was under the impression that it was just a raise in the dark. But the action played out exactly like log said, with the straddle playing as the new BB and him having the option when it came to him. Live straddle was a favorite move of the maniac guy in the hand example; almost every time he came around UTG he’d post up some kind of straddle. Even though he got stacked in this example he cashed out up $500 or so that day.

I thought that maybe the dealers here were screwing up but I guess this rule plays in a lot of other places. Personally I don’t understand the idea or how it’s a benefit other than just pissing everyone off, but I guess that’s it’s own benefit.

It’s just one of those things about live play that I didn’t really understand and I’d never seen before, at least not in play like this.

anyone know where you can purchase the professional tables with the good shuffler built in? like the ones at viejas?

The whole point of live straddle is to be able to be last to act. Otherwise it would just be an utg raise. It is useful sometimes. Moreso in NL than limit.

live games are insane. i was playing yesterday at caesar’s cause i went ot enter a WSOP satellite for their circuit event in march and got owned up (3 away from the seat :(, but i got re entry to another satellite) so i decided to play some 2/4 limit since it was the highest game running at the time (was only 11am).

of course you got one of those guys who talks trash about internet players, then flips up the stuff that makes no sense, like calling down a huge pot with 7 high “just to see what they had” or the person whose like “why would you play that” when you were in the BB and had no choice then a couple hands later turns up 48os UTG for the great 4s over 8 full house

but the games are the loosest ever if you catch flops (not cards) you could destroy them. yesterday in about 4 hours i racked up a win of 1140 at 2/4, i think i hit like 15 hands in a row at one point, some $200 pots with nut straghts or flushes and people re raising me all day

the only thing i hate about live is that you can’t play 8 tables at once so it makes it boring oh and the tipping, i don’t wanna but like everyone else does it so what can you do can’t be an asshole

I’m sure if you keep in mind that they work at a casino- run by the biggest assholes in existence- then you won’t feel bad.

yea that too, but at the same time like if it’s so bad why don’t they put do something about it.

if people stop tipping, dealers will revolt, and either be a) replaced by mexicans b) get treated like human beings

At lower limit tables I use tipping as anothing sign of my false gambling nature. I pretty much just tip the dealer a dollar no matter the pot size since it’s customary, and since I usually like the dealers at my casino I don’t really mind. And you know, the mexicans will eventually rise up and revolt just like the asian dealers did. I’m sure at one time dealer was the poor asian person’s last ditch job of choice but of course those damn efficient ass chinese always find a way to make everything profitable.

Oh, and everyone check with your local casino on how your local service staff is paid. At a lot of places it’s customary to tip service BUT in casinos where the waitstaff has a union those fuckers are making $12+/hr while the dealers are still making minimum wage. Just something to consider.

Who wants to get a 1/2 7-stud game going on bodog? I heard the bonus clears quicker than shit at that level and we’d just be passing the money back and forth among fellow srk’ers while getting 7-stud practice in.

Yea, from my experience with $3/$6, if you hit big hands, the bad players will pay you off. They will tend to call anything down as long as they have any kind of hand or any kind of draw (including backdoor straights, flushes). It sucks when they do hit their set or backdoor 5-hive flush, but after several hours, things will workout.

As for tipping, I usually only tip $1 if it’s at least a decent pot.

Thought I’d start my monday with a nice trap

can’t ask for that any better in a multi way pot, I can’t believe I raised before the flop, shut down on the flop, got everone to call, then popped the river and got paid off either:sweat:

Heh, he kept bluffing at it with 5’s. What a maroon.

Sounds like someone that posts in this thread.

limit can be eal annoying sometimes. this woman at harrahs rincon yesterday would call with ANY hand. yes, this paid off some people at my table, but she called my pre-flop raises with 3/5 offsuit and hit some bs inside straight - she eventually lost her money, but not to me…it was a frustrating day to say the least…

spot on analysis on live games sigley. the people are much worse but you can’t multi-table. =(
