The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

man, i highly believe you are underestimating this guy’s power just a bit lol. first off is his typing you’ve mentioned, ground/steel. this typing gives him a whopping 11 resistences and is not weak to any entry hazards which is already good enough for OU if you ask me. the ability to switch in on the majority of attacks is already huge for him. take a look at his ability, sand throw. as you can probably already predict, this guy will be on every single SS team. with a neutral nature and max ev’s invested in speed it will reach 275. with SS activated, it will reach 550 speed.

now with it being a steel type, it will force a lot of switches. that’s where sword’s dance comes in. with a adamant nature and max ev’s invested in speed and attack in SS after a swords dance, it will reach a whopping 810 attack and 550 speed…enough to sweep through whole teams. with life orb, it will reach 1053. the life orb recoil won’t even bother it that much thanks to its base 110 hp.

while it won’t reach its peak power without SS support, it still is a force to be reckoned with due to its typing and offensive capabilities. it’s almost like a faster, less bulky empoleon…the only thing that will ruin its sweep in SS is a very powerful mach punch…do i hear conkeldurr? =)

i do think that breloom is a pretty decent counter to it, since it’s resistant to EQ and rock slide and will force it to switch or eat a nasty mach punch. worst case scenario, it will put its counter to sleep on the switch for subpunches.

does anyone have an extra plume fossil or archen for trade?

Just got the game, where can I find the best online guides so I can find all the neat/rare items and not overlook important Pokes etc…?

thanks in advance.

I used the gamefaq guide by Drayano. It was pretty good. I switched to aragornbird’s since I wanted to get done ASAP though.

Excadrill is currently a monster in sand. Massive attack and speed after just one swords dance is nothing to scoff at. And he outspeeds pretty damn near everything. I also think that he’s the best rapidspinner along with Starmie at this moment. Of course, this can change just as the game progresses; after all Heracross had a fall from grace.

I’m not underestimating it, he’s real good if you know what you’re doing. What I don’t like is how the metagame is becoming predominantly weather controlled. It’s been known now that weather teams are starting to become a staple in this generation because so many pokemon are actually usable for those purposes. Trick Room teams are getting the nod, and this is not good for Exadrill because his 88 base speed is rather respectably good. Most of his resistances won’t matter much at all psychic, grass, dark, and probably a few others you won’t see too much of in the metagame. Electric immunity is good, and blocking dragon attacks is a plus you’ll see a lot of those.

I can see a lot people trying to play this thing like a pseudo-garchomp. Come in, SD up on switch, the wreck havoc. Through careful prediction, people will exploit Exadrill’s rather pathetic 60 base defenses. You couldn’t do that with Garchomp because you had to annihilate it almost immediately or it swept your team. Excadrill won’t come even close to threating any team like a Garchomp in SS can. Smogon bases its tiers through shoddy, outside SS teams will be use Excadrill it’s hard to say.

Like a lot of Pokes early on, I think Excadrill is suffering from over-hype. Will it be staple on SS teams? Absolutely, and we will see a lot of SS teams due to weather(and Trick Room) being so dominant this gen. However, it’s definitely no Garchomp. With those defenses, a strong Mach Punch should do the job. With careful prediction(as with just about any other Pokemon), it can be a monster.

I don’t really take battling all that seriously these days, anyway. I’ll probably be making a bunch of joke teams and goofing off with my favorites. I may make one serious team for the VGC tour… maybe. Anyone know when it starts up?

Entralink is awesome if you have two DS systems or a friend who plays. Basically you go in one of the surrounding areas and a friend enters entralink. You do the simple mission of finding the other player. Once you find them you give them a cool perk, I gave the character in my white half of of all shops! There’s also double prize money which stacks with amulet coin.

The effect only lasts 30 minutes, but it’s so cool! I wish I knew this earlier! You can also give double exp and other things like that. Dusk Balls for 500 ftw!

That’s definitely not true. Few pokemon have the perfect set of tools to truly sweep the way Excadrill does. It’s basically, make one mistake and give him a turn and BOOM! something’s gonna get hurt bad. He’s not invincible, but if you need to have a check on your team to cover him, then he’s a threat above others.

hey guys it’s been a while. i want to trade my son the other 2 starters on his game, do i need a badge or need to have a certain amount of pokemon in my pokedex? i can’t remember where to go to trade. any help would be great.

because I went in with Drilburr expecting to one shot everything with Dig (I didn’t have EQ yet) and her first 2 are flying/electric? I had no clue they were flying type which sucked because the rest of my team was Pignite (part fighting type) Servine (grass) Dewott (water) Timburr (fighting) and a Sawk I had caught. So my whole damn team had weaknesses to this bitch. I got lucky because Drilburr slashed one to death and I switched in Pignite and he managed to get in some damage. Long enough for someone else to come in and finish it. Then I brought drilburr back in to OHKO Zebstrika.

On the upside Drilburr hit 31, but I’m delaying evolution to learn EQ a little earlier.

I caught an Adamant Timburr…three levels later I realize it has Sheer Force instead of Guts.

Finally evolved my tynamo… lots of work for little reward.

I’m looking forward to seeing this Deino evolve though.

My AR crapped out. If you insert the USB part into a computer the AR heats up and starts to smell like smoke. Having to input codes manually is hella balls. It took me two hours to input a code for four Pokemon.

That’s why I’m on my way to Wal-Mart. Gonna pull the ol’ switcheroo and get a refund the next day. That’s for Datel making a product that malfunctions not even a year since I purchased it. :bluu:

I caught a Naughty Timburr with guts. I said fuck it. It took half an hour just to get that. Conkeldurr has shitty sp.def anyway.

I forgot to check my Timburr when I caught it, it’s Naive. I already got it to 24  I went back and I’ve been getting nothing but neutrally natured timburrs and Sawks. I just want adamant or something that ups the attack.

Dos anyone wanna battle/trade? I need to do an evolution trade is anyone wants to help me out. I’ve only gotten to like the 3rd gym so if you wanna battle I’m up for it for some fun!

My FC is 4684 7824 6949

I am jelly of you all…man no DS, no pokemon…the GF and I will each grab a copy when we can and join in asap. I’ll just have to read a lot of metagame changes to stay in the loop for now…

[spoiler=]I was more or less surprised Zebstrika had a good fire type move to hit my Excadrill hard. Good thing I had rock-slide for those annoying flying/electric types[/details]

I’m on 6th badge right now and I caught a timid compoundeyes joltik, this thing is gonna rock!

My team so far:

Smaurott - Taught this dude Megahorn from the heart scale lady, rocks even more
Excadrill - My ground type EQ destroys everything
Cofagrigus - Tank. Fun to mess with people
Darmanitan - Beast. Waaay better than that ugly ass fire monkey
Joltik - EXP share getting him up to usable
My last poke will probably be whatever the games legendary is
