The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

Really? I’ve always considered GSC to be the peak of Pokemon (especially game play).

GSC, while definitely the high-point of the series, is not without its flaws. I will say that the pacing of Johto itself is nearly flawless-- from your first badge to Team Rocket and the march to the Pokemon League, it all just flowed so smoothly. Then, you start up your game, and you get that SS Ticket and go to muthaf’n Kanto… too sweet.
However, Kanto wasn’t much more than, enter town-beat gym-rinse and repeat-catch that last Rocket Grunt who didn’t get the memo-oh there’s Snorlax-more towns, badges-go to Mount Silver-EPIC FINAL BATTLE WITH TRAINER RED…
It was more of a bonus exp. grind rather than a continuation of the story you had played to completion all the way back when you beat Lance’s Gamesharking ass.

As far as gameplay elements go, its additions are still to this day the biggest innovations the series has ever seen-- Day and Night cycles, Daily Events, Two New Types, Special split into Sp. Att and Sp. Def, which helped nerf the God-Tier Psychic Type, Breeding and Egg Moves, Hold Items, Special Pokeballs, Backwards compatibility with the previous Gen, and so much, much more. Gold and Silver did so many things right that what little flaws they have are greatly overshadowed and easily tossed aside. An already ingenious series made even better by the one of the most ambitious and innovative sequels ever created.

Can you tell I have many fond memories of G/S? I still have my original Silver Cart with all 251 Pokes all caught and boxed with nearly 600 hours of playtime logged. That’s Pokemania at its fuckin’ finest right there…

i agree, as i’ve said in this thread many times that g/s/c is my favorite generation. while i love hg/ss it’s not the same experience as it was with g/s/c. i remember always getting crushed by clair’s kingdra, whitney’s miltank, the team rocket goldenrod city fiasco and taking my first step into kanto. the day and night feature was really good too since you couldn’t just turn the time forward or back like you can with the ds on hg/ss if you missed a daily event. i was in middle school when that shit came out and i always brought my gbc with me to school to make sure i didn’t miss pokemon you could only catch in the morning or afternoon lol. yessir, g/s/c was the shit.

HOWEVER, i think the low point of the series came at gen 3 with r/s/e. just wasn’t as into that series as i was with g/s/c. that’s not to say the game was bad as it did bring a lot of pokemon i liked. i was just expecting more or less the same kind of innovations that g/s/c brought, since it was on the new gba.

I see. I do recall some people having problems, but I may be thinking of Gen 3. I’ll try to go over that again, I could have sworn there were issues with Gen 2.

Love what I’m seeing so far with Emerald… finally Gengars that don’t take shit from Earthquakes, the way it was meant to be. Dual critter fights are iffy, but I’m getting used to them.

More random stuff.

Anyone felt the same? Before I saw it on the show, I was expecting an awesome snake-like thing too, only to be greeted by a flying Barney. I did use to raise them…probably will again. I always had the sixth slot empty by the time I went to Safari Zone. In fact I’ve a Dratini in my Yellow playthrough now… hm.

Still trying to acquaint myself with the redesigns and what I missed in 3/4.

So Surge is Captain Commando now? Come to think of it, :qcb:+:p:/:asstb: is electric after all.

I still have my old Silver Cart also  with the Green Gameboy Color

Pokemon Emerald was a vast improvement over R/S. Highly regarded as one of the pokemon games to play, but agreed the low point hit hard in G3. I guess people didn’t expect much from the 3rd G because G2 did so many good things right. From what I saw, nobody really didn’t care much for pokemon contest and some of the new pokemon introduced in that G.

i really liked the ‘running’ legendaries (latios and latias) and are probably my favorite among all legendaries. no legendaries can compare to the birds and mewtwo though. :coffee:

there’s a few other pokemon i really liked in that generation too. off the top of my head: swampert, breloom, altaria, salamence, flygon, milotic (was actually my favorite pokemon in that generation for a while), metagross, manectric

wattson is the best gym leader of ANY game. no matter if he wins or loses he’s always soooo happy and hearty laughs everywhere!

251 Pokemon caught 999:99 hours Over 100 trained and competitive LV.100 Pokemon. Box Tricked and all.

Facing ASH (I will never call him Red) was one of the most satisfying gaming moments for me.

???

In HeartGoldSoulSilver, he looked more like Guile than Commando. But it might just be me.

I’ve still got a working Silver copy sitting around, with my good old Flamethrower/Sunny Day/Earthquake/Thunderpunch Typloshion. I remember the first time I saw that it could learn Thunderpunch, I was like “OMG GREATEST MON EVER!”. I’ve got some shitty Espeon that runs Psychic/Take Down/Iron Tail/??? too. I think that HGSS > GSC now, though. I loved G2, but HGSS expanded so much upon it, that I couldn’t really see myself preferring GSC over HGSS now.

… what do i do after i beat all the kanto leaders and then the indigo plateau again?

Go back to Victory Road, and then check the paths which were previously blocked by guards.

Another thing I liked about G/S/C was that elemental punches were obtain thorough tms, and as we all know there wasn’t a physical/special atk split until G4. Kadabra/Alakazam with Fire Punch was nasty.

For competitive battlers in here, smogon’s latest scoop has tons of revamps and updates worth checking out. On the head page http://www.smogon.com/\

just fyi.

That’s how I beat Lance the first few times in Gold. Abra-volutions with Ice Punches (as well as starters, Quagsires… basically any Pokemon that could learn it ). Just had to Move Deleter them if the need be.

lightball, where get

Thunderpunch Typ was amazing. Come on, it beat your rival’s FERALIGATR for Ra’s sake! Zam punches were scary, especially Fire Punch.

Thief/Covet/Trick it off of Red’s Pikachu (its holding one), otherwise, keep battling wild Pikas in Viridian Forest until you find one that has it, or get lucky on the Yellow Forest Pokewalker course and find it while dowsing.

GSC Typhlosion was BEAST MODE w/Thunder Punch… no water type stood a chance. Kazam’s Punches were even sicker because of his ridiculous Speed and Special Attack letting him one-shot practically everything. I wish he had a Special Equivalent this gen other than Hidden Power, because while Focus Blasting T-Tars is lol, Steel Types are ghey this gen.

I’m trying to track down anyone with a legit Arceus (cloned or otherwise). I want my level 1 Giratina, dammit!

in Mt. Silver, is Moltres the only legendary bird? is Articuno and Zapdos in there as well?

also, what is this lightball you guys speak of?

Light Ball is an Item that Pikachu can hold.
It doubles the Attack and Special Attack of Pikachu.

Articuno in the Seafoam Islands (they’re back!) and Zapdos is outside the Power Plant after you’ve restored the power.
