The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

i love HGSS
sooo many legendaries to get

I just traded somebody a scyther for a growlithe. I ran it through the IV Calculator and it turns out the growlithe has a 30/5/7/24/30/16 spread. That’s not ideal, but you can’t ignore that 30 HP and the 24 SP ATK with 30 SPDEF. If I get 252 EVs on HP and SP. ATK, would that make it a passable special sweeper? (It also has a 53 power Flying-type Hidden Power…also has Intimidate Ability, which can help mask up the shitty DEF IV)

A few of questions:

Is it possible to EV train a lvl 100 pokemon? So, say, you use 99 rare candies on a newborn pokemon, will EV training still raise its stats?

Is it possible to use a set of Dittos with perfect IVs in each of its stats (so a 31 Speed IV Ditto, a 31 Attack IV Ditto, etc.) along with the EV-training/IV-breeding items (Power Brace/Anklet/Weight/etc.) to breed a fully perfect IV pokemon?

Any tips for getting a 100 streak in the Battle Tower?

Use the GTS Exploit/GTS Hack if you don’t mind cloned pokemon. Post #7970 has more info.

is it possible for articuno, moltres, and zapdos to be shiny?

if so, would saving right before “talking” to them be the best strategy to try to get one? by that i mean just go into battle with them, they aren’t shiny, restart, repeat.

IIRC if you box a pokemon and put it back in your party, anything calculatable get recalculated (stats, level, xp, etc.).

Going to start on a new game of Yellow, but will experiment and try to ditch the Pikachu this time. Don’t want any bugs this time either.

How does one go about beat Brock this way, again? In R/B, it was pretty easy (even with Charmander, since rocks can be hurt by Ember/burn). Memory is kinda foggy on this one. Mankey or Nidoran right?

Kind of. You can use Vitamins, but nothing past that. And yes you sort of can use a set of dittos to ease the breeding for a perfect pokemon.

but you have to get exp to gain EV’s I believe, so it’ll update EV items and anti EV barries, but actual pokemon beating won’t give you anything.

It’s possible, though your strategy of getting one is not recommended. I think the odds of finding a shiny pokemon are like 1/1000 or something the first time, then it’s gets easier from there. It could weeks, hell even a months for that to possibly happen. I didn’t run into my first shiny pokemon until I was like a year in the game (D/P).

If Charmander was at a high LV say 14ish by the time you encountered Brock, then you could abuse his Ember on rocks weaker Sp Def stat and prey for a burn. This took lots of LV grinding though, since pokemon around the area didn’t give a whole lot of EXP (at it’s highest I think Metapod/Kakuna 50/60ish).

Fastest way was Double Kick Nidoran, train it up to LV12 so that it could learn it. Then proceed to rape Brock.

Butterfree destroyed brock with confusion

Yes they can be shiny and don’t listen to Fir. Your strategy is the best way to get a shiny legendary.

It’s actually 1 in 8192! :looney:

The best way to do it is to RNG abuse, but that’s not very fair is it?

True, but not many people have the means to do so, let alone know what it is.

I actually have a question about RNG shit. Does that stuff actually require AR or other HAX!!! or is it all just exploiting bugs or what?

All you need is your game, a clock or stopwatch, and the RNG Reporter on your computer.

If you want Alternate Color:
You need to know your Secret ID also.
And that needs you have Action Replay.
Or Trade your Pokmon to someone able to see.
Or catching an Alternate Color Pokmon and doing calculations.

screw it too complicated.

i was reading a guide/faq on gamefaqs. the dude was saying how since he has been playing fire red and leaf green, and everything since after that, he has only seen two shinies. a female nidoran, and a cubone.

i don’t understand how it is possible to get a shiny legendary, unless you waste your life trying to get one. i don’t want to hinder my game progress like that though. damn a shiny zapdos would be so boss…

I’m going to Soft Reset for all the Legendaries.
Laugh.

I know someone who softresetted for a shiny Heatran. He finally got it two days later, complete with wrong nature (despite having a Kadabra with synchronize on point) and like 4-7 in sp.atk/def/sp.def IVs

Good thing nowadays you can just RNG abuse for that.

Come to think of it, he does look more like a mix of Guile and Wesker in his new look. lol

:B

But yes, thanks. That’s how it’s done in non-Squirtle R/B. Nidoran/Mankey worked in Yellow.

Found the source of the comics. My goodness, this person is a genius.

HM’s? Who needs those?
…Did he just crap out an Everstone?
Metronome! …Crush Grip!
Awwwww.

It must be said that this artist doesn’t like the female HGSS trainer a whole lot. Or just likes to depict her as creepy.

What about just catching pokemon with non-shitty IVs?
