The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

yep now we only get skrambliss and scizor/heatran nonsense…

^^ WOW, it got that bad?

…on second thought, I’m glad I quit the first time…lol.

Any originality in teams now?

but now salamence got outrage, latias still outspeed chomp and can kill it with dragon pulse, I don’t think it would be as bad as before. skarmbliss is not what it used to be, i find celetran more annoying

I think the smogon tiering system is flawed in the whole usage = best aspect. It’s only been successful because they’re right most of the time however I don’t think it’s that simple.

For instance, Entei was once UU before becoming NU, but because he’s obviously too strong for even UU but not popular they created this eccentric tier for him and a few other unloved pokes to reside.

Ninja_Edit: There are no distinct counters for Garchomp because his usage cannot be regulated enough to create these “counters.” As long as people use Sandstorm teams, Garchomp would be used, and stupid luck (not regular luck) would decide winning and losing again.

Anti-Weakness Berries+Sand Veil/Sandstorm+Decent Defences= OP

well, looks like they’ll have to find some hard counters for him next iteration of Pokemon…:bluu:

Even without the SS, teams were still running Garchomp. We all can agree though that it was most deadly in the SS, the Sand Veil ability by my understanding also played a HUGE part in getting it uber. Teams could be one attack away from winning, only to be screwed over by SV. All it took was one SV hax, and that could potentially change everything in a blink of an eye.

In ubers there’s a lot of dragons Garchomp can harm instantly due to its speed. STAB EQ and Outrages lead up big over something like Hasty Palika or a defensive Dialga. I still prefer Rayquaza, however.

TBH in the early metagame I thought Specmence was more broken than Garchomp, even with SR. The concept of a Pokemon coming in sending off a move that’s essentially an special type Explosion w/ only 1 type resist is just stupid. The only reason why people didn’t complain so much was because everyone uses Blissey.

oh boy you guys are giving me nightmares of repetitive, 20min battles.

I usually make special rules with people, BL or UU teams with maybe 1OU allowed. Something, I have more fun that way

This +1.

In much the same way a good crit could win you a game. Honestly the only real problem I ever had with garchomp was guessing if it was a scarfchomp or an SDchomp, guess wrong on either end and bam KO’ed poke.

The chance of getting a Crit is 6.25%, the chance of evading a 100% accuracy attack in Sand Veil is 1 in 4. That’s more than just random low chance luck, that’s a surefire advantage for a Pokemon that is capable of sweep your entire team in 1 turn.

We haven’t even factored in resistance berries (w/ a few Brightpowder douches), and speed tiers yet.

I had two Garchomps if I recall, a CS one and a wall breaker one. The wall breaker one was too funny because teams would always expect Garchomp’s to be either the SD version or Scarfed. I would lure them in thinking he was either or then hit them with a Draco Meteor (or Fire Blast for steels) xp.

I’m really enjoying the recorded battle system feature on platinum. Always nice to sit back and watch other people duke it out.

Man, I haven’t played this in such a long time, and my wifi still isn’t working.
Empoleon and Porygon2 are fun in OU.

apparently they want to archive good teams…I just hope scrubby players don’t get so lazy that they’ll now just make cookie cutter teams by copy-pasting these teams.

I admit I have a well balanced team I made (well you can see it in some of my vids) but I’d hate to know that people aren’t thinking for themselves and just rip off my teams without ANY changes made.

:bluu:

lol Those teams make me want to battle somebody right now!

But yeah, I know exactly how you feel Infernoman. Believe me, there are A LOT of lazy battlers that just X-copy teams but have no idea what it means to have a gameplan.

Anywho, here’s the most recent battle I’ve had: (I’m Maxus)

Kinda shows how one prediction can change the course of a match.

Honestly. I remember this from both netbattle and some of the shoddy battle games I’ve had before switching to actual Diamond/Pearl. It was worse when Garchomp was around though. You HAD to have a counter 'cause you knew it was there… (Early D/P)

Anyways, I need some advice here. Are there any good Baton Passers you guys recommend? My preference is that it needs to have Nasty Plot. I use Ambipom for now, but I’m thinking about using Floatzel too, or are there some pkmn I’m misssing?

Smeargle is one of the more deadly baton passers in the game. Always has been. Can spore, hell learn any move to compliment its BP chains. But spore is the main reason, it puts asleep its roarers making it difficult to counter react.

I’ve tried Ambipom Baton Passing but it’s pretty difficult, especially in SS. I ran a Fake Out, Nasty Plot, Swift, BP MS. It almost never goes the way I planned, but it does work well at times. If its NP you’re looking at then you could give Togekiss a run, I’ve seen successful chains off of it. Bulk Up Floatzel passing works pretty neat despite how frail it is.

Hahaha well I don’t mind team building strats, but only if it’s more in general. That’s what makes the game fun by coming up with something neat or special, then testing it. Copying someone’s stuff won’t bring out any originality in your teams, and hardcore battlers will probably see it a mile away. I would only recommend copy-and-paste team battlers to the truly lost, although competitive battling isn’t that hard to learn with actual experience.

Not gonna lie though, I took a peek at some of those strats :stuck_out_tongue: but it’s just for amusement. Some are pretty interesting though.

So it looks like Pokemon is branching out into the medical field as well with their official Pokemon brand mobile x-ray machines. Almost makes me want to get hurt!

My fractures, I will show you them.

I have Togekiss with Nasty Plot in the lineup. The reason for a Nasty Plot BP is that I was thinking of using NP being BP’d into Togekiss or Lucario (Specs Luc).

Togekiss already does what I want it to with Air Slash and Aura Sphere and its bulky so it will take some hits. The NP pass will allow it to do extra damage without wasting a turn Nasty Plotting. Luc doesn’t have NP so the pass will benefit it the most.

Floatzel with Bulk Up and/or Nasty Plot might be good. Bulk Up pass to Gallade sounds good. I’m not worrying on whether or not it is frail as its speed is very good. I want it to BP a boost and be done with.

Thanks for the help though. It will keep me thinking when I have time to set this all up.

anyone wanna play? i’m bored.

just picked up the game…i’m having a tough time picking between a boy or girl, lmao

I like playing characters that appear in the anime. As a result…i’ve picked a girl 2 generations in a row (May, and Dawn)

its getting tiring…i’d pick the guy character but I KNOW it will bug the hell out of me that he’s not a big character in the anime…grrrr

EDIT: after struggling for 5 mins…i picked Dawn. hahaha
