yup true but in the uber metagame it’s just very hard to utilize him well without a scarf or something, and to set up a sandstorm in the uber metagame is not so advantageous instead of putting something like kygore or groudon there.
garchomp can still be a threat in Uber but a lot of other dragons outclass him there, so he isn’t used particualry much.

He was banned around the time Platinum came out in Japan, so last September-ish. Even though the Smogon powers-that-be were considering banning him long before that. He’s just too beastly even by the 600 stat club standards. Kinda sucks for people that legitimately liked him.
I think that actually had something to do with it. Garchomp was so strong and on so many teams that people were forced to have at least two Garchomp-counters on their squad at any given time whether they wanted to or not, and not many really exist. Part of the intent of the ban as I understand it was to make it so people would actually have some freedom when making a team.
I don’t think he’s coming off the ban list any time soon, but the tiers have been fluctuating a lot lately. Marowak for example was firmly BL pretty much since R/S/E, but now it’s down to NU despite not really changing at all in the past two generations because people have concluded that its 60-base HP is just too low to compete in the big leagues despite its huge attack power. It’s just weird how it went from a candidate for standard play to the bottom of the barrel in the span of few months, but we might see him rise again if people continue to play him and dominate the lower tiers. Latias is another one - she was Uber since the day she was introduced in 2004 but is now finally being allowed in OU as of a few months ago because their are a bunch of good counters for her even in standard.
