The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

The guy at Toys R us said to keep watching the flyers, because there were a bunch of new pokemon events coming in the next couple of months, like whole new pokemon to download and stuff. I actually read about it on joystiq, though. I don’t even get their flyers.

Crap, I forgot to tell you guys, if anyone wants the TRU Dragonite, I’ll clone it up for anyone.

ok I’m ready to come back to battlin’ if there’s anyone who wants to go, hit me up. I’ll be online tonight to battle.

Hey man could I get one? I have a brand new diamond game and I don’t have anything =(

ok well after getting back into some games yes people on D/P already have adjusted teams for Plat use.

but the bigger thing to bring up is the fact that Skymin testing and discussion this week will determine if it’s OU or UBER. furthermore soul dewless lati twins discussion is in talks…what does SRK’s pkmn community think of latis in OU? should they stay Uber?

Hey guys, we’re trying to get a pokemon tourney running here in SA, TX and I was wondering where I could find information on the clauses (i.e. freeze and sleep clause). It’s been difficult trying to get everyone to enforce them since we can’t find detailed information on it. We’ve tried smogon, but I guess I was looking in the wrong places. If anyone could link me (either PM or here), I’d greatly appreciate it.

btw, I wouldn’t mind if I could get my hands on a cloned 50 Dragonite, but my wifi isn’t up on my DS at the moment :frowning: I’ll try to get it up

Seing as this has been bumped, I successfully put together a dark pokemon only team that so far has gone 3-2 against OU opposition.

I is so proud

thanks for the heads up, I’m surprised to have checked and see that I’m on the list eligible for the shaymin vote, because I havent played in quite a while.

Shiro, you can find the standard rules on the first page of the thread. The only incorrect aspect of that list is that the moves sand attack/flash/smoke screen and like moves that lower accuracy are NOT banned as stated. It’s only double team and minimize and moves that RAISE evasion that are banned.

Also, you can find the ubers list (list of pokemon banned from standard play) here: http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/uber

Hmm interesting…should the lati twins go OU, would be funny to see an all dragon gimmick team

Is there somewhere that has it in more detail? Many players around here don’t believe in sleep clause (i.e. they’ll run a team that’ll sleep all your pokes). Also I think they want to ban duplicate items. Pretty much I’m trying to find a source that has the rules in detail.

oh yeah, ill probably be voting shaymin-S for OU. the experiences ive had fighting it with multiple different teams it have been pretty underwhelming. priority attacks are abundant, grass is horrible attacking type, and air slash is low on power

it sucks to get sp def lowered and then flinched, but it sucks to get a lot of things in pokemon

I’ll probably be voting OU as well. Shaymin-S ended up being much more powerful on paper than it is in practice.

The Lati@s test should prove to be interesting. I’m eager to try them out in OU.

Everywhere I looked it’s pretty much them same explanation. Gamefaqs, Marriland, Smogon…it’s not hard to understand for competitive trainers. Sleep Clause prevents Pokemon like Breloom from annihilating pokemon teams. If a Pokemon has the move “Rest” or the sort, it is not combined with Sleep Clause in result of a violation.

I suggest you just use something concrete to solidify your argument. Ex: Smogon Tour’s rules are a little different but generally holds the same formats used for most tourneys.

Without Soul Dew the Lati twins are defininately usable in the OU metagame. The argument becomes much more in-depth with them having one.

it’s stats seem scary but I haven’t had a chance to take one on…then again it doesn’t seem like much of a problem as others have thought. the latis will be interesting. since they lack a way to hit most steel pkmn without the need for HP fire. (although many can run it…some argue Lati@s has better things to do besides constantly guard against steel pkmn)

i’d like to see mew in OU too. As far as Skymin-S go, I’ve had a lot of success walling it with Skarm. I think even Ice shard can kill it (with SR damage)

yeah, shaymin is definitely a case of being scarier on paper than in the actual gameplay. I doubt he’d even be up for uber discussion had he not been new and so threatening on paper. next to the other pokemon that got sent to ubers, deoxys garchomp and wobbuffet, he seems really tame

and as for mew… the game is simply better without him, because with his do-anything-you-want stats and movepool he would obsolete so many pokemon

Walking through caves in this game makes me want to stab my eyeballs out.

Keep Mew Uber…no doubt about that. Skymin has a x4 weakness to ice and a lot of pkmn run ice moves…I’ll go online and see how they handle against my teams…

abuse repels as much as possible

Can anyone post a guide for battling in the new Platinum metagame?
I’ve been out of it for a while and I’m not sure what to look out for.

hmm, not a guide but just from the top of my head:

  • get ready to deal with swords dance/bullet punch scizor. It’s everywhere
EDIT: Don’t try Magnezone (hint: Superpower)
  • Gyarados is no longer a safe switch against breloom because of thunder punch. Notice that Lucario also learns thunder punch now, although I think most of Lucs had Stone edge for Gyara anyways.
  • Most of Salamence are imo now less “mixed” because of DD/Outrage. Before Plat you couldn’t really tell if it was a DDmence, Mixmence or a Specsmence.
  • Rotom is gay
  • Less suicide leads, more trick gayness (it screws walls bad)
