Fuck that, why should they tone the magic down? I thought the magic wasn’t that strong, I used Crescent Falchion 60% of the time if not more. I would just get the first shot off at range and then switch to the sword when they charged.
It is a single player game for the most part, and if you don’t like the magic you don’t have to use it. Or you can use the weak versions of it for the whole game.
Yeah I think the skeletons are even weaker to fire over the Soul Ray, but I was still murking them with Soul Ray 2 blasts.
Magic is REALLY good in DS dude. It takes the difficulty out of pretty much most of the game. The only exception is like, enemy players with anti-magic field.
Because it’s dumb to have obviously better options and not use them. I’d rather they created a balance in the first place so I don’t have to feel like an idiot for intentionally making the game hard just to play the way I want. That shit is dumb.
Even the Crescent Falchion was grossly overpowered compared to other weapons acquired without any effort over the course of the game, since it has an “A” ranking for attack boost from Magic, and dealt magical damage to boot. There was zero reason to swing anything other than the Crescent Falchion over any other weapon for a LONG time, even if you were a 2H-wielding Knight.
Games like Phantasy Star Online you can use magic 100% of the time, I don’t see the problem in a game having options.
What you are saying isn’t making sense. Obviously you can play other games on easy mode or very easy, because that is the easiest way to play the game. Most people do not do that even though it is the easiest option. I enjoy a challenge as much as the next guy, but all games if there is a guy that is:
100% melee
100% magic
50/50
I’m choosing the 50/50 guy 100% of the time, magic guy 2nd, melee last.
I don’t have a problem with being able to use magic 100% of the time if it’s balanced somehow.
Dude, this game is not for people that want easy mode. They never said it was or implied it was, and the entire game should reflect that. And if you really want a challenge then you wouldn’t even USE Crescent Falchion.
zoe1 isn’t a bad game. its not a good game. its short. its repetitive. it gets to the point of being unforgivable later on. at the same time, i think because it was an early game, the narrative is really the big issue with the game.
but like anything kojima puts his name on, the characters are well defined, the story is as much personal struggle as a war with aliens, the battles are still pretty intense, and alot of the goals like defending the city from attackers and being graded on your efficiency add some thinking and prioritizing, as well as some replay value.
the games shortcomings can be summed up as a grand vision trying to be accomplished with new hardware with a ton of time constraints (the world couldn’t WAIT for mgs2). but playing through the first one sets up alot of things for zoe2, and for that alone its worth playing (and won’t take you long either…)
Crescent Falchion isn’t near being the top sword in the game, but if you have a magic build it is greatly enhanced. I have other swords that did more damage, but I stuck with the Crescent Falchion throughout. It is a great sword as long as you are not killing lizards or fighting on the cliffs, it has that funky animation that makes you bounce back when you hit a wall. Died a few times on 4-2 like that.
The sword is silly because of how quickly and easily you can grab it, how good the ability is, and that it outclasses damn near every other sword you can get without having a wiki on hand, grinding for materials, or beating a boss beside the damn slime.
Use Axel and go through each stage SLOWLY, but not so slow as to run out of time. P, P, Burn Knuckle. Also, throw cats when they’re near death(you seem to get an extra 300-400 points).
1up locations:
Stage 1, immediately go left to the end of the screen and punch. Stage 2, after you come out of the truck, go to the top-left of the screen and punch. Stage 3, on the pirates of the caribbean ship, and when you’re fighting that alien thing, go to the middle of the bottom of the screen and punch Stage 7, in the first part of the stage.
R. Bear should be the only boss that might give you problems. Handle business, and you should crack 800k by stage 7 or the beginning of stage 8.
Most Important: Abuse the save state option, especially during bosses.
Same as the gear the Royalty has that anybody can get within first 2 hours of gameplay.
Royalty biggest advantage is the low SL, where you can level for cheap early on.
…which is why I mentioned magic being a problem. Fragrant ring is just too fucking good and makes magic fucking nuts. But really fragrant ring is more important early on. Late game it’s less of an issue and you see that magic is just fucking good anyways.
True, the game becomes a lot different (and fun) once you are able to toss about souls to buy a fair amount of Old Spice. That, and when you can use Second Chance. Damn, that spell takes a lot of fear out of the game.
I never even used Second Chance once, I should have though. I was confused on it’s use at first.
I used Warding all the time and they can’t be used together, so that is why I never used it really.
I played a paper-thin armor Royalty during my first go-through, and the ability to completely avoid getting one-shotted while having low Vitality and wearing cloth is pretty amazing.
