The Official PLAYSTATION® Thread: E3 - PS4 Pro November 10th $399

So they saaaay Dunn DUNN! DUNN!!

It’s back again. And for those who have a Japanese PSN account, their store is up to. I grabbed The Last Guy and Echochrome for PS3, and Loco Roco Midnight Carnival and Patapon 2 for PSP.

whoop, gonna get 2 more games. im thinking about that pool game and another one. i already have dn, inf, lbp, wohdf. getting ratchet and clank from a friend of mines account. the jpn account had 3 or 4 games not on any of the other accounts iirc. too bad i didnt make 2 jpn accounts back then, but who would have guessed wed be getting free games, lol.

So my PS3 just got the YLOD…What should i do? My warranty is expired since i bought it back in '07.

Edit: Fuck it, ill just contact sony tomorrow.

Buy a new one or find someone in your area to fix it. Come on!

Look up Gohpermods…they are good with fixing YLOD’s.

I’ll give these guys a shot, thanks.

i think that new highlight video they added up on u3 TV beta is one of the tightest ideas i’ve ever seen. naughty dog deserves alot of props by highlighting the highlights and allowing players to shine within their own game without being intrusive while you’re waiting for matches. i stopped playing just to watch them. pretty dope.

Sweet, more free games! Hopefully navigating the JP PSN to get them isn’t so bad. What does their PS+ get?

Yeah, once the maintenence started MvC3 online turned extremely laggy and unplayable. I got into a match with someone I just played like 20 minutes before, and instead of it being smooth like it was 20 minutes prior it was laggy to a point where it was completely unplayable. It was like that the first few days PSN came back up and everyone was getting there free shit. It’s really strange imo, don’t know why a P2P game would turn into a lag-fest when the PSN goes under maintenence/gets heavy traffic. It shouldn’t be affected at all.

Mission accomplished. I got Echonochrome and The Last Guy. For Playstation+ I got Frogger Returns and Dark Awake(a fighting game that a bunch of SRKer’s were talking about near its release. I’m hyped to play it.)

Not sure what I want for my PSP games, though.

Oh man, EU PSN getting some good stuff this week-

SEGA Rally AND Spelunker HD.
Will be getting Rally~

Been playing a lot of Ratchet and Clank recently. I’m really sad I slept on the series for so long. I’m just loving the shit out of it. Looking forward tto a Crack in Time and eventually All 4 One.

I downloaded Dark Awake but had no clue what it was. Gonna have to try it out now.

Oh, it’s that WoW-esque fighting game. I remember a lot of people talking about this game a few years ago.

That stupid online pass stuff that now even Sony is adopting is making PC gaming more and more appealing

I’ll never understand why people hate that so much. People have given all of the companies hell for implementing it - whether it be EA, NRS, or whoever. I guess as a disclaimer I should say that I don’t often buy used games (meaning, I have to be buying an olllld game that you can’t buy new), and I never sell my used games, so it doesn’t affect me.

I understand that people want to sell their games when they’re done with them and blah blah blah. I get that. I choose not to, and understand that I am in the minority. But I mean, they’re a business, not a charity. Used games sales bite into their sales. That’s really all there is to it. They’re trying to at least get a piece of the reseller’s pie (that they technically cooked in the first place). You have to at least be able to understand why they want to move in the direction that they’re moving in.

Plus, it’s hilarious that you mentioned PC gaming when that’s where they got the idea from in the first place. Ever heard of “serial numbers”?

Console games used are already usually way more expensive than their pc counterpart that is new. Tacking on a $10 fee to access online just makes it even more absurd

not if you bought the game new. it only effects you if you bought it used.

which does suck, but its not sony’s fault as much as its manufacturers trying to get a piece of that reselling pie. i understand why they are doing it, but online passes haven’t exactly become status quo, and it seems like a very knee jerk reacttion to just up and sell your ps3. that’s actually a gross over exaggeration to the issue and i’m sure the amount of games that do this make up less that 1% of games that have published. i know everyone likes to be sensationalist about things they dislike, and it may become more prominent than it is now, but if that’s what’s gonna send you to pc gaming permanently, then i guess it is what it is.

gotta lookout for yourself the consumer, but i find it funny that maintaining and top shelf system can probably be more expensive than the money you’d save buying online passes for the 1% of games out there that you may buy used in the future…

My biggest gripe is that games dont drop in price. It could be 6 months to a year after a game came out and you’ll still have to pay 60 dollars for it new. Either at retail or on psn/xbl. But then you can go to Steam and find the same game for 10 or 20 dollars and you dont have to pay for an online pass to play it online. Shit even games that are only 2 or 3 months old get discounted on Steam. That never happens at retail or psn/xbl, that shit will be 4 years old and still be at 60 dollars.

The JP PSN+ games are time-trial versions of the games. JP PS3 owners got the short end of the stick with an even crappier game selection, a longer wait for their PSN Store AND crappier PS+ games that you don’t even get to keep for the month.

Where do you live? The only games I see that stay at full retail price around here are games like Call of Duty.

you just gotta be a smart consumer.

case and point:
alice: madness returns
released June 14th, 2011

Current retail store price = $59.99
Current used price = $54.99 + $10 online pass
Retail PC price = $49.99
Amazon brand new PS3 price = $39.99 ($36.99 through certain retailers)
Amazon brand new PC price = $29.99

most people are too lazy to put in the research to take care of themselves as a consumer. people just assume second hand is the best way, but you’re better off taking 20 minutes and doing your due diligence. if the price (and the restrictions, such as online passes) are too much for you, then have patience and wait until an offer presents itself.

you can’t waffle between smart consumer and “fuck it” mode when making a purchase. you gotta be one or the other. those that do are the type of people that complain about prices of things but still end up overpaying for something they didn’t have to. those are the type of people who give into shit like online passes without considering alternatives or even if its worth supporting that game. the best advice is to take care of yourself as a consumer, but truth is is that most people don’t know how to spend their money wisely. if everyone did, you’d have a much consumer friendly shopping environment because people would be speaking to these companies with their wallets.
