Probably because the badly dubbed English dialog fucked up people from enjoying the story more.
I quit Yakuza 1 when i had to sneak through the Funeral…Hated that shit.
I do not believe in such talk as this. We are nice men with happy feelings all of the time. To prove it, I will tell a joke.
What do you get when you mix an owl with a bungie cord?
-Starhammer-
how important is it to play arkham asylum before city? I copped city when it was 28 bucs, but I still haven’t played asylum.
Rather important honestly…The reason for the existence of Arkham City and everything to do with Joker stems from Asylum.
You can get through Asylum pretty quick and do the rest of the clean-up after you beat the game.
Switch your avatar back to the reverse centaur avatar, because it perfectly identifies what you are right now…
A Troll.
And Rhio, stop being a damn loner and play Uncharted 3 (and other games) with the rest of SRK. Accept the invites you’re sent, nigga.
Shut up you!
It is true! Yakuza’s combat is at an acceptable level, but it isn’t great or even that good. Getting new abilities is cool, so is smashing dudes into things, but the core fighting is weaker than in batman, and you can make that as a direct comparison. I don’t want kazuma-rangs or a yakuza-claw, but combat has basically been the same since yakuza 1 while the graphics and all the other shit have improved so much.
i played all the yakuzas and i gotta agree w/ stabby. i played 4 on hard using one hand! that’s silly mang.
2 is def the best. can’t comment on story of 1/2 since it’s been a while. gangstas in diapers wat.
kofxiii owns my soul. too bad telecoms cockblocked us from having good netcode. shit is gravy in korea
Is it KOF98/2002 good?
If so…
So far it seems to be the only fighter without a comeback mechanism and hasn’t nerfed the pressure game…
it’s 2002HD basically. just buy the game son!
now i just need gato/vanessa/ramon for the next dream match.
XIII is better than 2002. Been working on Andy. I suck with him but I’m slowly improving a bit. Why he can do crB>stB>far D is beyond me though. They screwed with the hit stun from jump ins as well. Gotta hit pretty deep. I feel trolled whenever I see a trial that starts with j.HP. Hate that nonsense. The trials are madness. It’s like you have to hitconfirm with normals first(not a problem) and anything that’s a special/EX special/DM you have to input fast as hell. Trying to get down crBx2>hcbx2+P for some trials. What a bitch to do. Also if Kyo is not the best character in the game I will be surprised. The dude is a straight monster in XIII. I have my doubts that EX Kyo will be on par with XIII Kyo. My team as of now is Andy/K’/Kyo. Benimaru is usually one of my better characters but I just don’t feel like playing him XIII this time. Not even messing with HD combos yet.
Hit stun on jump ins seems to be delayed slightly, too.
Like, it takes a quarter second for you to be able to combo into the hit stun.
Lol at the hit stun though.
Standing hp with Athena causing enough to link f.lk is cray enough, st. hp into f.lk into c.lp with Billy is silly cray.
I like the game a lot, but yeah… you gotta hit confirm j. attacks into st. attacks to chain to other st. attacks to fast combo into specials…

Yakuza combat has been the same in aesthetic sense. The combat jump was huge from Yakuza 1 to 2. Yakuza 3 combat felt a lot better and smoother and 4’s combat was nice just cause of the diversity in fighting styles you had.
We’re all spoiled on the Batman games but you never know with Yakuza 5. They may take some pages from the Batman games and implement it with the hand to hand combat. I mean Naughty Dog more or less did it with Uncharted 3.
Where the hell is Parappa?
Yakuza is the manliest game series I’ve played to date.
I do agree that they should try and expand on the combat: maybe look at how Batman AC’s combat is done and see what they can replicate/utilize?
Which reminds: Yakuza is PS2/3 exclusive: GIMME KIRYU IN DAT SONY SMASH BROS DAMNIT!
Parappa hasn’t been on a next gen console is my guess. All the people in that pic have been on PS3.
I think the dub was fine, however the cursing during all the fights was too much. Seems written for 10 year olds.
I think the combat is fine, I look at Yakuza as an RPG, it just uses a beat em up fight engine. Yakuza 4 was way too easy, should have kept it closer to Yakuza 2 where you actually had to buy health items, because you needed them.
neither has jak. but i think someone was alluding to it being a potential lineup for the super sony brawl brothers game, but it just looks like fan art, especially since parappa was psuedo confirmed (as much as a psuedo rumored game can psuedo confirm anything).
i thought yakuza 1 dub was pretty well done, but dayday was right. in fights, every thug was telling you to fuck yourself and eat shit, which was kind of overkill. but the dude who played kiryu did a pretty decent david hayter impression, and it fit overall. the worst voice was probably haruka, but other than that i have no complaints on the dub. i guess its like this… I’ve seen far far worse. if you were to average out the quality of anything dubbed japanese-to-english, yakuza 1 would sit comfortably well above that line.
whenever i hear radiantsilverguns yakuza 1 story, it kinda hurts my heart. i just remember getting past that part by just going left, behind tents and cars and a few minutes after that you’re storming out of the building throwing statues and leveling fools with stone pillars in some zen garden place you don’t see anywhere else in the series… people tout the “replay” option to grasp the story of previous games, but playing through yakuza 1, you’ll realize there is no summing up that story and getting the full scope of it. it would be like someone giving you an overview of “the godfather”. you can try as much as you like, the best way to convey how good it is is to have someone watch it (or in this case, play through it).
i guess i can’t really CONVINCE anyone its a better story if they haven’t played it, but its well worth a play through just for the story alone. the fighting will seem dated and the side missions aren’t as varied and fun, but its something that i can’t imagine someone who likes the yakuza series would want to skip over.
