The Official PLAYSTATION® Thread: E3 - PS4 Pro November 10th $399

It’s showing up now.

Yea, took me a while to change my avatar, which sucked because after changing hours of trying to change it people were like "WTF Man! Your posts and your old avatar fit so well! CHANGE IT BACK OR WE’LL KILL YOU!!"
Took me another fuckin’ 10 hours to change it back to this one.

I HATE EVERYONE!!

BTW, that new Gundam NEXT Extreme game hits PS3 soon (December 1st, I think).
It’s Ps3 only, so uh, that sucks. But it’s a somewhat arcade perfect port of the original NEXT Extreme… which I still hope the online DRM for that game is removed once it hits consoles. I WANT OUR ARCADE TO HAVE IT, DAMNITT!!

I hope you’re right about the DLC stuff for the US. I’ll check the demo when and if one arrives. I stick to my argument that the price will drop if it ain’t geting anywhere. Still. 5$ for some damn costumes? :nono: if it were a big pack of them, MAYBE. Costume+extras, okay. I’m too cheap to pay five for shirts IRL. I’ll put dat’ bitch out in the middle of enemy territory BUTT-NEKKID!!! Weapons? Plenty of rocks on the ground. We’re taking it OLDSCHOOL!!

Anything in caps + the Twilight Sparkles ground pounding dance av = Me laughing.

it fits his personality so damn well.

Mass Effect 2 was only 20 dollars today new. I was like “AW YIZ”

I can’t wait to have alien sex and shoot people.

Even CashCom gives 4 costumes per $5.

I’m done with DLC, like, forever.

I bought the costumes in Vanilla to support the resurgence.

I bought the characters in BB, for the same reason.

Nothing else.

No Super or AE costumes.

No BB colors or whatever the fuck else.

I did what I did out of hope for more earnest support for the genre to come.

Instead I now get notices every time I log on that there is content that I haven’t bought, and asked whether I would LIKE to buy it.

It is bad enough that every time I try to play offline, I have to affirm my choice twice more, and then be told that choosing to play offline means that I am not playing online.

Now I am greeted every time with a store purchases check, offer, and finally, flashing icon telling me that I haven’t purchased everything.

I’m done with this shit.

And this gen of games.

And no, I don’t want to compare my score to some jag-off online, scan leaderboards, or compare trophies for doing unfun shit during what is by definition supposed to be fun (i.e. a game) because some morons actually believe killng X number of Ys constitutes a genuine facet of gameplay.

PS2 games were richly robust, complete experiences.

Or else they bombed.

This gen is full of bullshit excuses for games (yes, double entendre).

And gamers.

Games just get worse in everything, but fucking Graphics.

In other words, they should get this as a Christmas Present.

so i just got a ps3 slim. bought it from a friend who won it in a raffle at the revelations tournament earlier this year. I just started using it, and i tried to update netflix to 2.05. Everytime i try to do this my ps3 will shut off. I have no idea why it is shutting off?

this gen is the beginning of an end of video games as we know it. nintendo wii, digital distribution, online passes, overpriced dlc (what happened to dlc being planned in the future? now content is being left off the disc on purpose just for dlc), hacked psn accounts, generic fps, crappy JRPGs, are some of the bad things this gen i can come up with. the future doesn’t look to good for video games. there are some games i really appreciate like uncharted, yakuza, demon souls, fallout, skyrim, batman, alan wake, deadly premonition, and countless others, but we will never reach the ps1 and ps2 days or even snes, nes days ever again.

the future of video games is grim and its only a few years away.

Just gotta be pickier about the shit you buy.

Gotta question. On the PS3 version of Catherine Start Menu is it Katherine sitting on the blocks Vincent is tied to or Cathrine? I have it for 360 and it’s Katherine. I was wondering if it was different on PS3.

Relatively dumb question but how long until the Devs stop getting money for their game? I have this complex where I would only buy games new unless I knew their game sold really well. (I also play shit a year late)

well…

devs get their money from publishers. publishers pay for the development and will usually give kick backs depending on how the game sells on store selves. devs don’t usually see money directly from sales, unless they are high enough to warrant royalties.

publishers make their money by selling their products to stores. once its on shelves, they won’t see any money from sales again until stores start calling them again to restock. one of the wrinkles is that usually retailers have a recoup policy with publishers where if they have defective products or unsold copies or was forced to discount/firesale products in order to move them, the publisher must reimburse the retailers with a certain percentage of what that retailer lost.

so its not as simple as “you buy a used game, a developer loses his job”. it usually goes back into a product report where the publisher doesn’t get calls to restock, they miss landmarks and projected sales, it goes back to the developers and they say “we can’t give you as much money as we did last time” or “yeah, if you want us to keep working with you, you’ll need to cut this much out of your projected budget” and THEN people lose their jobs.

the concept of it all is really complex, and how much impact buying new over used has on a grand scale can mean alot or it could mean nothing. most games over a few months old have already run their course and will not get restocked, so used in that aspect doesn’t hurt anyone. but if the retailer such as gamestop has 500,000 new copies sitting behind registers across the nation and asks the publisher to recoup (while they sell tons of used copies) then shit hits the fan and only the retailer wins, effectively screwing over the devs and publishers that are making them tons of money.

my advice: don’t take a side in the issue. do what ever is best for you, as a consumer. worrying that you are going to put $15-20 in a devs pocket isn’t something that concerns you. the business practices between publishers and retailers needs to be changed, and retailers right now have no reason to change… part of the reason why you see online passes is the industry trying to hardball retailers into pushing new products and earning a chunk of the business being squandered from them, some of which is justified. but as to who’s right, there isn’t a clear line.

just do what’s right for you, and spend your money wisely. in the end, someone is going to see your money in one form or another, the industry will just need to sort itself out to compete for that money.

Only exception to that is some digital distribution. That goes straight back to the publisher (developer if self-published) directly minus whatever % the dd retailer takes from the top.

But retail isn’t too keen on that getting popular since it loses them that delicious store-front chunk. In an ideal world, the only people that get fucked are retail, manufacturing, and physical distribution with dd, so the publishers, digital distributiors, devs, and consumers all win since the fixed costs are basically all in development.

Chill dude, it’ll take a while for some avatars to change.

Wonder what this X-Mas sale/discount will be like? I got a fuckton last year~

Son, that was hours ago. I’ve changed avatars before. That was the only time it has glitched out on something so basic. I thought they did some maintenance…

For those looking for a good jRPG fix, if you haven’t tried Nier out, you need to. It goes for like $10 new these days, if you can find it new.

Characterization, writing, story-telling, music, themes… all of this is triple S class and deserving of the highest accolades/praise. Gameplay is lacking, but it does what it needs to. Story is so good. Not simplistic black and white allegory like most other jRPGs.

Tried it a few months ago and thought it was garbage, looks like a last gen game.

Cavia, the developer, had jack shit in terms of a budget. This was their final game because they had no money.

Graphics don’t make the game, son. This game has a lot of charm, character, and soul, unlike almost every other game of it’s genre this gen.
