Wow that is a lot of extra cash. Weird that they don’t list specifically what SSD or motherboard it is using. BTW the prices look very high in that store. For less than that usually you can get a real water-cooled system instead of a self-contained LCS.
Gaming in max performance, an i7 3960X is overkill (processor alone costs $1000 dollars). I have one myself and I don’t use it other than benchmarking. I use an i7 2600K for my main system/gaming system. To be honest any recent generation dual-core i3 or higher from Intel will not really bottleneck too much in games except for older DX9/10 games. It really comes down more to your video card. New cards from NVIDIA coming out soon so prices are about to shift again so wait a few more days to see where the trend goes in terms of video card prices. That much cash is better spent on a good capacity 3rd gen SSD and a kick ass monitor. A $1000 budget for a monitor is even more awesome as you can get a 2560x1600 or even a three-way 3D setup.
You don’t need anything beyond a GTX 590 to run every single game in max in 1920x1080, anything beyond that is just if you are gaming in 3D or in multi-monitor (Eyefinity or Surround) or 2560x1600. Even a single GTX 580 is more than enough really. I have a triple SLI 580 and I just use a single one for gaming now. I just throw in the 2nd one in there if I want to game in 3D so I guarantee smooth framerates.
Cheers for the quick answer yeah this weekend was pretty good went to the store bought some beer and snack and a scratch off just for fun i think the prizes goes from like 5 euros 50 150 1k 5k 10k and 25k is max and i pulled the 10k holy shit ive never won anything.
Fuck the beer and the snacks me and a few friends went all out.
I guess ill check for a cheaper one i just dont wanna get something that needs new parts in like 2years
well thanks again
New GTX 680 pretty much destroys the HD 7970 on all fronts. lol it would be interesting to see how far the video card prices drop in the next few weeks. NVIDIA dropped their 500 series prices already pre-launch but the AMD 7000 series cards still look high. (7970 costs $550 while GTX 680 costs $500 even though GTX 680 outperforms it and has better power consumption)
It doesn’t really destroy it (the average performance gains across the board aren’t big enough to warrant that label in 1080p, gap is much smaller in 1440p/1600p though these resolutions are much rarer), what it does mean is that the 7970/7950 will get (or rather should) a ~$100+ price drop which would still put it in a good spot (Nvidia already dropped the price on the 500 series last week) while the GTX 680 will most likely get price gouged to hell because they sold out almost instantly . This smells of 8800GT all over again ($200 card so good that you couldn’t find it for under $300 if you didn’t get one right away) which is a good thing for everyone IMO.
Also, without use of a special BIOS, the HD7970 seems to have more OC headroom and ends up on top in performance.
Nvidia did a fine damn job with this card though and there is no denying that you should be getting a GTX680 over a HD7970 in most cases, I just wished that the majority of these damned benchmarks weren’t so nvidia biased (too many TWIMTBP games, small game samples, etc). Oh and less console ports in benchmarks. My toaster gets 80FPS in ME3 with everything maxed out, no need to use it to test a brand new card.
Most also failed to include any minimum framerates which is a lot more important than anything else if you like stable framerates >:(.
TXAA is looking mighty fine too and as long as it doesn’t cause graphical oddities in games it will be awesome.
Hopefully by the time I upgrade (still undecided if I should wait for Haswell or if I should just on to Ivy Bridge and see if Virtual V-Sync is any good )
Also, when the hell are we getting 120Hz 8-bit (and higher) VA/IPS panels? Shit makes me sad.
Here is my PC that I built last year November. Specifications are;
CPU: Intel Core i7-3930k OC’ed to 5Ghz Stable
RAM: RipJaws G.Skill 16GB DDR3 RAM
Mobo: Asrock X79 Extreme4
GFX: Ati Radeon HD6990 4GB Unlocked
Cooling: Corsair H100 Water-Cooling
PSU: Corsair HX850
Blu-Ray Combo Drive
OCZ 60GB SSD + 3 x 2TB WD Caviar Green HDD
Thermaltake Armor Revo Black Full Tower
I used to have 2 x Palit GTX570’s, but the amount of noise and heat they gave off was insane, so I switched to a HD6990 which destroys them. Also had a Fractal Design R3 case but it was too small for my needs (the HD6990 scrapped against the HDD bays) so I got a Revo case, it’s very nice, was going to get the NZXT Phantom but I couldn’t find a way to mount the radiator for the Corsair H100. This machine is a beast, no chance of needing to upgrade in the near future, or maybe I’ll go SLI with 2 x GTX680’s…
Well the fact that there aren’t more titles under the AMD Gaming Evolved line is really AMD’s own fault. And even those games are poorly optimized on AMD systems. Codemasters’ F1 series still underperforms on AMD six cores even on the new Bulldozer and they haven’t fixed that at all.
680 vs 7970 on AMD Titles
Dragon Age II - 680 trumps 7970 across all resolutions
Stalker Call of Pripyat (old ass game but an AMD title nonetheless) - beats 7970 and 6990 except for 2560x1600, where the 6990 edges the 680 out)
Dirt 3 - (another buggy Codemasters game) - beats 7970 and 6990 across the board, even in 2560x1600
Performance gap looks big enough for me, especially considering the TDP and price.
I actually don’t mind seeing ME3 benchmarks as those are what most people are looking for and it is a lot more practical and real-world, although it is not Metro 2033 or Crysis which is designed to choke out the system (and provide nothing else because those games suck).
I don’t think AMD is going to drop the prices that far down. Maybe $50 at most to match the 680 price then work on Drivers and PR machine (expect more multi-monitor eyefinity benchmarks to popup soon). $100 price slash is too much too fast since the 7900 series just debuted and pretty much spells defeat in the eyes of investors and this is a volatile time for them to start showing weakness in the graphics front especially with a new CEO.
Kick ass system. BTW How are Asrock boards? I have not had experience with them before and I am actually looking to replace my AM3+ motherboard since MSI keeps sending me broken replacements for RMA.
Oh I totally agree, I am just not a fan of nVidia’s review guidelines. Then again it’s their business to make their product look a lot better than the competition’s .
I don’t mind the benchmarks for ME3 or other older games, it’s just that they get such high FPS that even if one gets 200FPS maxed out and the other gets 250FPS that if they must be included in the reviews they should be omitted from the average performance charts. Having numbers like that just inflates your FPS and I honestly don’t care about them wanting to make their card look good. I just want non-biased facts. I don’t really have brand loyalty (even though all but 1 of my GPUs have been nVidia) so unless they want to make me a focus group member and send me free 680s then I’d appreciate less “shady” (in quotes because they’re not that shady to be honest) tactics, more honest numbers and more reviewer freedom when it comes to selecting games and such. Less synthetic benchmarks is fine too.
AMD doesn’t really seem to have a lot of options at the moment. They can release superclocked 7970s, a 7990, and early release of 8000 series in a few months? The GTX680 is essentially the mid-range card (GK104) so that means that Nvidia still has GK110 to release (coming later this year I think). AMD is fine for now but I fear they might be getting pounded real hard in the discrete GPU market at this rate (the current prices on both sides aren’t helping me get shiny new cards >:(). Fortunately their mobile stuff seems to be progressing along really, really well (then again, so is Intel thanks to all that money they have) but the profit margins in that sector aren’t anywhere near as high.
All that aside, I think I’ll be using a corsair 550D for my next build. Was thinking on either the corsair or the Fractal Design Arc Midi Black. Leaning towards the Corsair at the moment.
I wonder if the prices will drop on the few dual fan GTX 560 FTW cards as gamers replace them with the 680s, as they are pretty few and far between. I really want a new card, and the specs on the 560 FTW cards are very promising for my system.
They’re excellent. Build quality is amazing and the features they have are mind blowing for such cheap prices. They are, after all a sub-division of ASUS. But yeah, I’ve been using Asrock for all my PC’s in the past 6 years, no issues at all.
So i want a desktop, and i want to play all kinds of games on it. My friends told me i should try building my own because its really fun/ less expensive/ a good experience. So i head to google and look at some recommended builds and i see that they range from like $700~$800~, which i think is pretty awesome. But, im not completely sure. #mce_temp_url# ( i was looking at the mid-range) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120322230309AAtLkkL (PTRP’s reply). Are these good options? Do you guys have any tips…this is my first time building a computer so i have no idea what im doing, any help is much appreciated. Also, since these are gaming PCs, will i still be able to do simple computer stuff on them, like schoolwork?
It appears that they are releasing an inverted version of the Phantom 410, among some other special edition colors(including a gunmetal). Which is all well and good, but I want the full size phantom in black with white accents.
Figured I would give you guys a heads up though.
Of course you can. It’s a PC all the same, but the target purpose is different. Also, for the price you are looking at on a GTX 550 ti, you can get a used GTX 560(most of the time) and it will perform much better. For the price you can get a new 560, you can get a used 570, because a lot of people are upgrading to the 680.
I just saw that on MPC. They look very cool, especially the gunmetal version!
MPC also said that the Cooler Master Cosmos II was getting a silver version, so I have been holding back on building a new rig. The Cosmos II will definitely be the base for my next full-tower build. I have the original CM Cosmos and it has served me extremely well.
Performance wise, the 680 isn’t the best card out there… right now. I say wait until they get some drivers out and then pick one up. It’s currently out performed by the GTX 590, (though dual gpu), and dual GTX 560 ti’s.
