The Official PC/Computer Thread

I just got all the parts in to build my mother a new computer!
My budget was $1200 for a complete system.

Here are its specs:

NZXT Phantom 410 White
PC Power & Cooling MKIII Silencer 600W
AMD Phenom II X4 960T Zosma 3.0GHz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB
8GB G.Skill Ares Series DDR3 1600
1TB WD Caviar Black SATA3
Lite-On Blu Ray/DVD Burner
Viewsonic VX2250wm-LED
Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000
Microsoft Wireless Ergonomic Comfort Desktop 5000
Logitech Z-523 2.1
Windows 7 Pro x64

Now for the fun part!!

Ah, upgrades. This is my new current build.

Fractal Design XL with USB 3.0
NZXT 120mm dual fan CPU heatsink
Intel i7 930 (this is old, and not an upgrade)
NVIDIA GTX 480 x2 in SLI
12gb DDR3 1600
1tb Western Digital Green
500gb Western Digital Green
40gb OCZ SSD boot drive

Awwwwwww yeah.

Hey whatever happened to your system? You never replied. Were you able to fix it? (I can’t remember which thread it was on and the details anymore)

I’m still waiting for parts to come in actually. My ram comes in this week and my new processor is coming in early next week. I’ll be posting the new specs and pics as soon as I finish building the whole thing. It’s just taking way longer than I expected.

Here are a few pics of the new build! Hope you like!

I’m very pleased with how it turned out!
The NZXT Phantom 410 was a pleasure to work with!

Thanks for looking!

Am I the only person on earth who doesn’t like the Phantom?

I like the Phantom 410 (looks very Mass Effect-y), except for that door which is a bit hard to open sometimes because you have to press hard in the mid right. BTW why don’t you mount the PSU with the fan pointing down so you can route the 8-pin cable to the back (although it looks long enough in that power supply tbh)

I’m all for simplicity. Link in my sig will show you what I mean.

I agree about the door. When I first tried to open it, I thought it was defective. I have quickly gotten accustomed to it. As for the PSU, this is the best orientation for it to receive proper airflow. I may try to route the 8-pin through the rear, but I don’t think it will be long enough.

This is the largest mid-tower case I have ever worked with. A buddy of mine has the full-tower version of the Phantom and it’s a beast!. I absolutely hated the Phantom’s until I was able to view and feel the quality of it in person. My cell phone pics really don’t do it justice.

It’s in your desk anyway and there is enough clearance at the bottom. From your system, you aren’t really drawing enough from your power supply to warrant a lot of cooling, plus any decent PSU is rated to have that efficiency at 50C.

I’m keeping it as is, but thanks for your input.

This is actually a system I put together for my mother.
I’ll be delivering it to her next weekend. She’s so excited!

Relatively decent gaming PC for parent? Interesting. Well, whatever she uses it for, I hope she doesn’t hide it under a desk, those NZXT cases are nice and are meant to be seen.

I believe the tower is a statement, NZXT proves that even moreso. No longer is a tower confined to be that ugly white or black box under your desk. If I had nicer hardware, I would liquid cool my PC, just to make a little different and that much more unique. I find that the plumbing makes them look better and adds character.

We’re actually going shopping for a desk when I arrive. She is wanting to get one with a frosted glass top, but we’ll have to be sure it is sturdy enough to handle the weight. We may have to get a separate unit to hold the tower next to the desk, but it is most definitely going to be in an easily viewable location.

Finally got around to putting together my HTPC with mostly old parts I had lying around. Only new stuff is the RAM, case, and keyboard.

Silverstone LC10B-E case
ePox EP8-RDA6+Pro MB
Athlon XP2700
1GB Radeon HD4670 AGP
3GB DDR333 RAM
2x 80GB ATA133 WD Caviar Black in RAID-0 (primary drive)
1x 40GB ATA66 Seagate for music storage
Antec Earthwatts 500w PSU
Logitec K400 bluetooth keyboard/touchpad
Windows XP Pro
Lite-On (?) DVD-ROM

Yeah, it’s a bit of dinosaur, but all it’s intended for is web-watching TV shows and playing old-school games and MAME.

Finally got the last parts in. Today and tomorrow I’ll be putting the whole thing together. I’m putting my old specs and new specs to show just how drastic the change is. A month ago I was rocking this piece of shit:
i945 motherboard
Pentium D 3ghz processor.
2 gigs of DDR2 Ram
Geforce 7300gt
LG dvd drive
250 gig Sata hard drive

And now:
P6t deluxe V2 motherboard
i7 920 (2.66ghz) processor
6 gigs of DDR3 1333 Ram
Antec Kuhler h20 620 liquid cooling system
Dual SLI’d GTX 280
2 250 gig data drives (SSD incoming in a month or so)
Samsung blu ray drive
multiple card reader
azza triton 401 case.

I’ll post pics later when I’m done building the thing.

That case is very nice! Looking to replace my Thermaltake Soprano, might give this a spin…
Very clean, slick-looking build, congrats!

New NVIDIA card coming out soon!

Lucky mom!

Nice case! I am too lazy to get my HTPC build going but I do have the parts except for the case and remote. Harmony One remotes are too damn expensive :frowning: Anybody have them? Are they worth it?

I had a Zotac ZBOX going for a while but I don’t like the netflix interface in XBMC. The netflix interface built into my Sony hdtv is actually better. Also, I would like to game in the living room so I’ll probably throw in a decent card in there for 1080p gaming.

Hello i just got some extra cash (scratch off tickets FTW) and im looking to treat myself good with a kickass gaming rig :).
Im a total noob with pc stuff so i wanna know if this is a good choise http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/JIMMS-LEGEN-BEAST
Is it good? I wanna game at max performance and maybe stream etc.
The site is in Finnish but the parts are the same in every language no?
