The OFFICIAL NFL 2010-11 Thread (including SRK Fantasy League)

D-Force, I made a quick edit while you were posting, but here’s a Chicago article that articulates my thoughts on Cutler: Disparity between Bears-Packers could worsen; plus 10 thoughts - Chicago Sun-Times

Also, the QB isn’t the only offensive weapon out on the field, but to imply that he isn’t the most important is just nonsense. That’s like saying you’re not going to criticize the RB when your run game is only producing 2.5ypc. Sure, you’ll look at your o-line and TE that are also blocking, but the focal point will be the RB not getting it done. When your passing offense is floundering, you’re overthrowing your receivers (Hester had a clear TD when he got inside of Tramon Williams), yes, I will start looking at the QB and say, “What’s going on?”

EDIT: Screw all those haters tweeting about Cutler, but god damn some of the stuff they said was funny. That’s pretty much the best thing to come out of this, some education and some laughs. Now that it was a MCL injury, I think people will ease off Cutler and his knee.

That article you posted is more of a personnel/front office/coaching issue than a player issue, but I digress.

There’s a difference in being the biggest factor and being the only factor. The QB may guide and direct, but the other guys on offense have to do their part as well. You’re only as good as the sum of your parts. As for your example, all I have to say is shoulda-coulda-woulda. Hester could’ve caught the ball had he not quit on the route.

It’s like an orchestra: The conductor is the main guy, but the musicians also have to perform too.

EDIT: I’ll say this much. The Packers have a great GM and great coaches. I wish the Bears had staff that were half as competent. They probably wouldn’t be in the mess they are if they were.

I bolded the portion of the article that pertained to Cutler and his on-field performance. I get it that you’re a Bears fan and you have to take the positives wherever you can get them, but all I’ve heard from you is why everyone not named Jay Cutler is responsible for Jay Cutler’s inconsistent/terrible on-field performances. It’s the o-lines fault, it’s the receivers fault, it’s the front office, it’s the offensive coordinator, etc… Did you ever think that maybe what you’ve seen so far is what you’re going to get with Cutler? A 22 TD:19 INT, 85 Rating QB?

I mean hell, if every starting QB had everything checked off on your list of “things Cutler needs in place to do well”, then we’d have 32 Tom Brady/Peyton Manning players in the league. When will we be able to judge, fairly according to you and your list, Cutler and his performance? Year 3 of Martz system? Year 4? What if Cutler loses Forte for a season? Do we give Cutler a pass for that season? I’m curious to know when non-Bears fans are able to assess Cutler’s on-field perfomance thus far and make an educated guess as to how his future performances will turn out.

EDIT: Charles Woodson = ultimate swag. Woodson talking to the locker room after victory: “So the President doesn’t want to come watch us at the Super Bowl? That’s okay, we’ll just have to come to him.” BALLER.

EDIT2: MJD is a bitch http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/football/nfl/01/24/maurice.jones.drew.twitter.jay.cutler.ap/index.html

I don’t know where you’re getting that from, honestly. I never said nor implied that Cutler is free from the blame. I don’t know what is is with people that believe it’s one extreme or the other when it comes to him taking responsibility, especially when that’s not being said at all.

Just because he’s not taking responsibility in the way you like him to, that doesn’t mean he’s not taking responsibility at all. I get that he’s a prick, but damn.

Cutler deserves at least 70% of the blame. :coffee:

Big Ben’s offensive line is worst than Cutler. Hell they don’t even have a backup O lineman anymore. If anyone else gets hut they are pretty much fucked, or they picking up some dude off the streets to fill the depth chart.

I get what D-Force is saying. There are a lot of things that are out of the QB’s control, but at the end of the day this is what comes with the job. Whether it is fair or not is not for us to decide, because this has been the norm, and always will be the norm in football. QB is the leader of the team and he gets the glory in wins, blames when they lose.

This is you implying that his o-line, unfamiliarity with the offensive system, and receiving corp somehow held Cutler back by using the word “considering” and referring to the o-line as “terrible”.

This is you implying that the front office is to blame in casting the correct personnel around Cutler in order for him to succeed. You even use the phrase “it’s not his fault”.

Basically, no QB has perfect conditions. This season, Brady and Manning had no-name receivers, Manning and Rodgers had no running game, Vick’s offensive line couldn’t protect him, Rivers saw plenty of game thrown away by the Chargers’ special teams, etc.

And exactly what part of that isn’t true? How are you going to hold him responsible for things that were beyond his control?

Same thing here. He had no control over who was there prior to his arrival.

No QB has perfect conditions, but not every quarterback responds in the same way. Some tough it out in the pocket, some use their mobility to get out of trouble, and some rely on quick passes before the blitz arrives. There’s not much room for comparison there.

My point still stands. Cutler is not entirely to blame, as you would like to believe.

Umm, when he doesn’t checkdown to Forte, that’s his fault. It happened at least 3 different times in Sunday’s game. When he tries to strong arm the ball even when his receiver is covered, that’s his fault. There are many things that have happened on-field that Cutler has 100% decision/control over and has shown that he’s inconsistent at absolute best, and a loser at worst.

Is it Cutler’s fault a lineman misses a block? Is it his fault the receivers quit on routes halfway? Is it his fault that the receivers don’t fight for a catchable ball? There’s also a lot of things that happen on the field that Cutler is not responsible for. In any event, this is getting nowhere.

If you want to go on believing that Cutler taking some responsibility = Cutler taking no responsibility, go right ahead. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on that one.

Lol, okay it’s his lineman’s fault again. It’s his receiver’s fault again. Seriously, Bears fans are just silly. Go ahead and think Cutler is going to get your team somewhere, everyone needs a dream I suppose.

Either all wrong or no wrong, right? All that other stuff doesn’t matter. He controls all.

Yeah, that Earl Bennett is trash.

Just like how the O-line were blocking gods and then when Cutler came, they stunk it up. That was all Cutler, there.

That huge snow storm that caused the Metrodome’s roof to collapse, that was Cutler’s doing, too.

Uh, what? I’m talking about INTs that Cutler threw, not natural disasters. Whatever. At least when the Falcons lost, shinblanka could admit that his QB was not ready for primetime and the majority reason why they lost they game (horrible INTs on the biggest of stages). Bears lose, with Cutler going 6/14 for 80 yards and an INT? “Well, at least he’s the best QB we’ve seen in 20 years”.

EDIT: I suppose our difference lie in our standards. I’ve been pretty blessed with Favre, then Rodgers, so I expect my QBs to be good-great-dominant all the time, almost single-handedly willing our team to victory (for as shitty as Favre played in his later years, his 1990’s run was insane). Bears fans, understandably, have lower standards. As long as they aren’t Brian Griese bad, they’ll get excited over the smallest flicker of talent at the QB position.

I tried to tell you the same thing, but your immense hatred of Cutler or has caused you to believe that I was making excuses for him, which I wasn’t. Either that or your lack of comprehension. In any event, I’m done debating this. I’m moving on to something else.

Fan reaction: Chicago Bears’ hearts buried with Cutler’s wounded knee - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

This dude mad.

BURY MY SHELL AT WOUNDED KNEE!

Bonus nerd points for whoever figures that line out.

I think we are all missing the point here Tony Romo is the next QB to join the ranks of Joe Montana and John Elway. Just wait tell next season…

Turtles In Time.

This is just getting ridiculous now.
