1/2 today, 3/4 for the Divisional Round, 5/8 overall so far for the playoffs.
Bears beating Seahawks was expected, though I thought the Seahawks would put up a better fight. Those dropped passes really hurt.
I thought the Patriots would beat the Jets, but not nearly as bad as it was on Monday Night, but the Jets really controlled both sides of the line very well. Brady kept getting hit and was forced to move out of the pocket constantly, and the Patriots receivers kept dropping passes (the Alge Crumpler pass in the endzone changed a 7 point score into a 3 point score). The Jets do have one of the best pass defenses in the league, though, and didn’t allow any big plays to happen (though New England isn’t built like that). The Jets were able to play their game, run down the clock, tire out D-line (which has depth problems). The Patriot drive early in the 4th where they didn’t score anything pretty much sealed the deal (as well as the missed onside kicks). The Patriots future is pretty good, and they have many draft picks. I think they might need a pass rusher, possibly a big play receiver as well.
I picked the Packers and the Patriots, before the playoffs started, to go to the Super Bowl. That would’ve been the best game out of all the playoff teams IMO. Rematch of the 1996 Super Bowl.
As for the AFC and NFC Championship games…
NFC Championship
Green Bay Packers over Chicago Bears
-Should be a very close, low scoring game, like the previous 2 meetings this season. The Packers seem to have hit their stride. The Bears secondary isn’t that great, but is definitely better than the Eagles and Falcons. The Bears can also get pressure through their front 4 alone. The Packers defense is amazing to watch, they can play man, great in coverage, they can stop the run, they have an amazing pass rush. The Bears offense will have their hands full. I think Hester will have to give them some really good field position for them to win, because I don’t think Cutler will be able to position the Bears to score consistently (whether its TDs or FGs).
AFC Championship
Pittsburgh Steelers over New York Jets
-The Jets won the previous meeting in the regular season, but the Steelers were without Polamalu. This will be another close low-mid scoring game. I think both teams are pretty even (Pittsburgh better against the run, and the Jets better against the Pass, both can run the ball well, and have receivers that can make plays), but Big Ben is the much better QB and having Polamalu back will definitely propel them to the Super Bowl.
