The OFFICIAL "New To Shoryuken.com? Say Hello!" THREAD

Anyone from Southern Ontario, from Windsor all the way to Oshawa, please make sure to check out the Canadian sub-forum if you’re looking for offline competition. We have plenty of public casuals and tournaments, and are always looking for more people to join our community regardless of skill level!

Afternoon!

I thought it time for introductions. I haven’t played many fighting games and just recently got into SSF4. I’m mainly concerned with building arcade sticks and what not but wanted to be at least a bit competitive in the scene. I started off playing Ryu on XBL with no real execution training for combo’s and what not. My PP hovered around 500 and I thought it would be time to either practice punish, blockstring and BnB or start learning that on a new character. In that regard I just switched over to playing Dhalsim and have been enjoying myself but after playing shoto some bad habits really crept up in the first 100 matches.

I’ve had about 500 matches with 25% wins which is just atrocious. I’m having fun though and am waiting to complete my joystick before seriously practicing execution. As for shortcuts, I believe in the shortest path. If I can do Yoga Flame with :df::qcb: instead of :hcb: I’m done one input sooner (Helped me with b.MK xx LP Flame).

I’m new and I play Hakan. Whatup.

Hello, I’m new to SRK, but not so new to 2-d fighters. I play on PS3 and live in the south east, I attempt to make it out to the few tournaments in the surrounding area. I’m on SSFIV daily/nightly and constantly looking to better my play. I main Dhalsim and have a few alternate characters in my arsenal. I’ve been playing on stick for quite some time so if anyone ever needs help figuring out an input feel free to ask me. My PSN is iamnefarious. Just put SRK or something of the like in the message so I know where the add is coming from, or leave me a message on here.

Greetings

Hello SRK!

I’ve been reading the news feed and forum for a while but I finally decided to join your fine community. Anyway, I’m enjoying learning the Way of the Joystick and the specifics of SSF4, and I’m interested in sparring partners of any skill level with a decent connection over XBL. I’m not good but getting better and having a lot of fun learning the complexities of this game. I’m apparently a glutton for punishment, as I main Akuma, so I’ll be spending a lot of time in that forum. I’ve already seen some great stuff that I’m working to incorporate into my game.

Cheers everyone!

Hello There Everyone! I’m not new to the scene, just the fighting game forum scene. Just thought I might as well start posting as i come here and read just about everyday. I been playing games forever haha. Fighters are my favorite. I’m a Cammy player. I would say I’m just an average player, but you all can judge for yourself.
You can add me on PSN for some casual play if you want to. and nice to be here!

Hi.

I started fighting games around the time of GGXXAC. I never found any competition for that game. Eventually I started playing fighting games online with some online friends, and that was pretty cool. Right now I’m playing SSFIV and BBCS (less) under the gamertag Laineychan on Xbox Live.

Hey there,
I’m relatively new to the SRK community. I’ve mainly been browsing the tech section looking at the many sexy custom arcade sticks the members here have. I just noticed looking at my profile that I had join 2 years ago even though this is my first post. I probably would’ve posted something earlier but it seems like everything has already been answered.
I enjoy playing fighting games but my main interest is in the shoot 'em ups (yes I am on the shmups forum).
I’m currently looking to buy an arcade stick but am having trouble finding one locally in winnipeg and the couple I have found are terribly overpriced. cough 200$ HRAP EX SE even though there ebay store has it for 130$ and there warehouse is in the city cough

Greetings

Hello,
I’ve lurked this site for a while but this is my first post. I’d like to thank everybody in the community here at SRK. After doing a bit a research, I’m excited to say that I plan on making my own arcade stick, a keyboard/arcade hybrid, and a custom Saturn pad along with many custom project boxes. I plan on documenting my progress and hope to contribute to the community in some way.

Keep rockin

*Definately you need to practice and read up on the game in general (or if it is your personal preference, listen to podcasts. The game is very simple to understand, but very very in-depth beyond that. As a starter, you should learn small things, like the arrow of moves of your main characters (quarter circles, double quarter circles, full circes, 720s, Zmotions[SRK motion], etc.) including their ultra and super combos. You should learn basic terminology and tools, such as “footsies” (which include far too many things to post) and “pokes”, spacing, throws & techs, and most of all, combos. Combos as really the building blocks of beginning level play of Street Fighter.
It takes quite some time to turn “auto-pilot” off, but you need to learn to play LIVE opponents, or at least replicate scenarios that are unfamiliar to you. Training mode will be your best friend here. You want to train your reflexes to react to situations that present opportunities. For example, record a blockstring wih Ryu in Training mode and have him end it with a move that has long recovery (Shoryuken, Ex Tatsu). Now play it back and block his combo, and every time you see him shoryuken and you block, punish his recovery. Little drills such as these will help you to recognize scenarios where you can punish your opponent for whiffing.
*It takes quite some time to become very very good at this game. But the key to getting good is learning when you play. Don’t just go and fight around with your buddies online for fun and hope to be great with time. You actually have to put in effort to be any good at this game, and by effort, I mean taking time to learn things you have trouble with.

Sorry, I don’t play TvC, but I play SSF4, and the mechanics may be similar. I know the SRK motion can be kind of a pain if its not familiar to you, but there may be a shortcut for DP in that game. I know in SSF4, the shortcut for DP is :df: :df: :hp:.

Hey my names ShadeGlacier but you can just call me shade.

I’ve had quite the history with fighting games in fact, the very first game i ever had was the original street fighter II so you can say im a bit of a fighting game junkie

My experience with fighting games are mostly with capcom and namco games such as Tekken, soulcalibur, street fighter, Vs Capcom series. I have Dabbled in a bit of KOF but i won’t say im an avid player.

Recently i have been mostly sticking to SSFIV and MVC2. as of this writing i’m anticipating MvC 3 as much as hopefully everyone else is.
The one Street fighter series i was never able to play was III. I’ve always wanted to play that series (mostly 3rd strike because that’s the “current” one) and My favorite character in the street fighter series has to be either sagat or Cody ( even though he is from final fight :P) but anyway i guess that’s my intro and I hope to be very active!

I introduced myself a little forwardly elsewhere with my first post to the Video forum, but I figure I might as well say hi here since I’m still very much a newbie.

I signed up in the hopes of being able to contribute to any discussion wherever I can, as I’ve been into fighting games for the longest time but never really had the people to share my interest with beyond the occasional game. I hope to get to know a few of you in future because you seem like jolly nice fellows.

Thanks for the warm welcome I’ve already received in my other thread, and a hello to all others!

Hello all. I’ve been lurking these boards since I purchased vanilla SF4 and have finally decided that I too can use my keyboard to put words on the internet. Many threads and videos I’ve found here have already helped me gain a better understanding of the game and the fundamentals. I use Guy and Dudley pretty exclusively now, although Blanka was my favorite in vanilla. Hoping to level up my game or die trying.

Hi, I’m EB Jeebies amd I’m a recovering free-oholic. Over the past month, I have been learning to block and that its not good to just mash out specials and supers. But every once in awhile I do relapse. I’m currently learning Gen in SSF4 until Yun is downloadable. My GT is the same as my username but I’m currently on silver status (my live card should be arriving this week).

Hi, I am new here. I´have layed fighting games on consoles casually for some time, but never even used an arcade stick before. I will be getting one soon though.

I’m proud of you kid. Sometimes I do the same crap when I’m playing lazy (spam Cannon Spike during wakeup), but as long as you’re making a conscious effort to stop playing flowchart, the Gods of SuperSF4 will look favorably upon you.

Hi all, my name is Alec and I love Balrog
Add me on PSN to play around sometime
