The OFFICIAL "New To Shoryuken.com? Say Hello!" THREAD

Soulcourtez on the scene!

hello everyone! i am new to the hardcore side of things… ( though i know i’m not hardcore yet) i currently play ssf4, bbcs, and pretty much any other capcom fighting game… (I’m waiting for the day they make a new project justice, rival schools!!!:looney:)

I’m currently in the transition from using the standard x box controller, to the tournament edition arcade stick… and its DEFIANTLY providing some challenges… but i know it will come…

my main issue now in just about all the games i play… is I’m having trouble finding a main character… i mean i know who i use to play with before i started looking a lot deeper into the system… however i want to expand my skills with the not so common chars…

any advice on that would be greatly appreciated.

my x box gamer tag is soulcourtez

don’t hesitate to hit me up there.

Hey, I play casually but Im a scrub since I blame my inability to win on only having a dualshock controller. I play as adon most of the time but getting back to basics and learning from scratch with ryu.

KELTER SKELTER has provided a wonderful thread right here in the Newbie Saikyo Dojo that touches on this very subject. Look for the thread “What Character should I pick - The Newbie Saikyo Dojo Character Selection Guide”

Yo!

Hey! My name’s Pablo, ThePabo everywhere else I go to on the internet/gaming community. I’ve had SSFIV since the first week it came out, but I’m still not as good as I’d like to be, but it’s all good. I got Virtua Fighter 5 a couple of days ago, I just needed a taste of something different for a bit, but I’m really liking it a whole bunch.

Back on the topic of SSFIV, I’ve been using Cammy since the original, but I had some time of keeping away from her and using a lot of Balrog, but now I’m back with Cammy! I REALLY want an arcade stick, like badly. Why? Because I really like the feel of them, and how accurate the best ones are, and I think that if I had one of them, my skills would surpass any of my expectations (with the right training, of course).

I’ve got SSBB, TvC, SSFIV, MvC2, Virtua Fighter 5, and Rock Band 2 as my friendly party game. I’ve got my aim and skype up, so if you wanna play, just hit me up on them! I’m most of the time online, so yeah! Hope to make some new friends and sparring buddies here too!

Also, on the topic of casual gaming/tourney/hardcore gaming and whatnot, I’m mainly up for friendly matches. I do like competition too, but not the kind that people add overexcessive pressure and hate to it, I like keeping myself loose and chill when it comes to competition. I’ve only been to one local tourney my whole life, but that was for SSBB, so I kinda have the feel as to how they play out and feel. It’s an amazing experience (though I mainly got raped), and I really hope to join more of them in the near future. So yeah! Hit me up, and we’ll play some friendly matches! And I don’t mind anyone recording any matches of me as well (if you ever decided to).

This made me laugh a little. Good luck, sir.

Hello there! I’m Area 51 and i’m new to shoryuken.com. I’ve played fighting games for quite awhile and I think its about time for me to step my game up. I’m still kind of new when it comes to the SF series, currently playing SSF4. I also like to play ST when I have the chance. I hope to learn many things on this site. Right now my PS3 isn’t working so I can’t play casuals.

hello! just joined a few days ago. ive been playing fighting games off and on for a few years, but recently have been playing almost daily. the usual suspects are still alpha 3 and cvs2, but i have also really been feeling tvc lately. ive lurked around here for a while, but the main motivation behind registering is to get in contact with people for some matches irl. peace.

Hi, Finally decide to make an account and start posting after maybe a few months of casually lurking/looking through the site. Maybe this is my way of saying I’ve finally made up my mind and step my game up and take it to another level. Currently playing ssf4 on the ps3 and enjoying the learning curve…but I might just start playing it for the 360 to gain a bit more experience.

Just wanted to say hiya everyone. Currently playing SSF4 trying to learn the ropes…i played SF way back in the day on SNES but since SNES days ive played very few fighters…small amount of tekken and lost interest in MK after it first went 3d…kinda hyped about the new one coming out though as it sounds like its doing the same thing SF4 has done. Anyways, here lately im usually on trying to practice up and improve, slowly working through challenges and getting used to my TE stick i just recently bought for a hour or 2 each day before work.
My XBL Gamertag is Xaranthius. If you would like to have a few friendly matches toss me an invite sometime…just no crazy hardcores that just want to stomp the new guy please lol…i may be able to do most of the basic special moves but its going to take time to start fitting everything together into something remotely resembling any fluid style hehe. Later

Yo I’m Big Boss.

I’ve been playing fighting games since the original Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo. While I’ve dabbled in other franchises, i.e Mortal Kombat, KoF and such, my heart has always belonged to Street Fighter. However I knew nothing of the competitive scene outside the local arcades during those days, never knew anyone was considered pro until SF4 came out. It was also during this time that I realized that I’m nowhere as good as I thought I was back then. Feels bad, man.

Anyway, I was a Ken main until I realized the power of Saikyo in SSF4. Now I main Dan and I’m having a blast. While I’m not considered good, I know I’m not clueless either. If anyone wants to spar, drop me a line.

PSN is xBuckxNastyx.

Nice to meet you all.

**Hello, i’m not like super new here or anything just when I signed up.

I was looking for this kind of thread and couldn’t find one so, never got a chance to introduce myself.

I like Fighting games and still a bit newbish to Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue.
But I kinda like all types of games just not Sports games.

Anyways, i’m just looking improve my skills and meet some fighting game buddies.
So, catch you around.**

I joined up because getting into some local SSF4 tournaments. I’ve been playing fighting games a long time but never took them serious.

Looking forward to MvC3.

Btw… looking for a custom xbox/ps3 stick… pm me.

Well, New here. Not new to fighters, though to be honest I’m nowhere near pro.

Part of that is that I outright refuse to just concentrate on a single game. Over time, for better or worse, I’ve developed into a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none type of player.

Which means, while I’m not guaranteed free at any one game, I’m extremely unlikely to beat a pro at their own game. Pretty much the reason why I avoid tourneys.

I’d rather have fun than win. I fully expect to never be considered a pro (except at losing :D) And yes, I don’t see the two being one and the same. Which I think is a good thing because anybody better than casual beats the living hell out of me XD

And what better way to face as many people as possible to know how to play a ton of different games on at least a non-scrub level?

I tend to metagame the heck out of anything, naturally. I try not to. Probably because most of the pros at the events have a culture I just don’t want to get into. Freaking hate trolls (“then why did I join SRK?”)

Arkansas player, LR area.
Gamepad player, though I’m about to learn stick on a TE-S.

Best game is BlazBlue: CS. Main is Tager.
Worst game is Tekken (any).
Has the most fun with Touhou UNT. Main is Alice, Defensive build.

Wants to learn (better): Melty Blood AA, SNK fighters. BlazBlue, of course. SSFIV, maybe…

Feel free to contact me, though I don’t contact anyone myself.

Hello

I browsed the SRK forums and news page for quite some time now. I just decided to register.

I pretty much only play SSFIV as far as fighting games go. I would consider myself a low-mid level player who just wans to have fun. I’m the guy who goes to tourneys just to hang out with other gamers and play a couple friendly matches.

Stick player
I main Ryu
My XLive tag: Bazl0r

See ya

So whats going on guys, I’'m Jbsmoove. I recently picked up SSF4 and I’m looking to get a bit better at it, possibly tournament level playing but more importantly I’m looking to improve my technique and win consistently. I’m playing on the XBox, I’m not sure if that’s common or not, but my gamertag is Dantebear and I’d love help from anyone who’d like to offer it. =D

Sup guys my name is Timo and i’m from Dortmund in Germany. Well i love playing SSFIV and i really try to get better but it’s hard if you’re just able to play online. Not much of a community 'round here. Prove me wrong if you from 'round here just send a message to mash it out. I’m a Balrog main. XBL Tag: Whatsakick

Well, btw. bad English skills + alcohol … forgive me please. C:

Hey im SHURAX pretty new to SSf4 and fighting games in general. I was never really interested in them until recently. No main or anything yet still playing different characters. Pretty much just a casual player xD nice to meet everyone!!

This is kinda weird to explain, as I’m not new per se. I’ve been a long time lurker. Like, 05/06 on and off for MvC 2 and 3rd Strike advice. I always thought I was not good enough to really contribute to the community so I decided on finding what I needed. I recently feel comfortable enough and learned, but the 360/PS3 release of SF IV came out. Online players, then Eventhubs, and Capcom-Unity, and now MvC 3 hype. Didn’t really think it was the best time for me to sign up and have a chance at being taken seriously :stuck_out_tongue: I kept doing my usual lurking for more 3rd Strike, (S)SF IV and KoF advice.

Long enough is long enough, I decided to just make it now and hopefully I don’t look like too big of a scrub while getting hype for newer games also. Definitely the best site for fighting game info.

Greetings people of Shoryuken

I have recently started to try to get better at super street fighter 4 and I dabble in Blazblue and smash I am trying to main Juri and Makoto I have down some of their basic combos and still working on my execution I been lurking around for a long time now and decided to post I look forward to playing and learning from everyone.

Hey everyone, greetings from Aruba. We have almost no players here for any fighting game except a very small, yet solid Tekken community. My main game at the moment is SSF4, no surprise there, right? I main Zangief and I’m trying to improve my overall game with him. If there is anyone else from Aruba on the forums, feel free to hit me up on a message so we can get some sparring matches in or perhaps do a local tournament. Anyway, been lurking these forums a long time so in that sense, I’m not really that new. I really enjoy watching the streams too, shout outs to the top players for always providing awesome matches.
