The OFFICIAL "New To Shoryuken.com? Say Hello!" THREAD

Hello! Like a lot of folk in this thread I am a super long time lurker, but this is my first post. I’ve played fighting games pretty casually since I was a kid, I played the King of Fighters 98 - 2002 games a LOT when those were around, and now I recently got into SSF4 trying to main Sakura. I’m still pretty terrible at the game, and get my ass handed to me online a lot. Hardest AI is still nothing compared to online games apparently.

One thing I’m struggling with right now is online play in general. I play on the 360 (gamertag is kpulv if you ever want to beat me down in some matches) and the lag is incredibly noticeable. Combos that I can hit for sure in offline games I whiff miserably online. I can really feel the timing between my button press and the action in even the green connection matches. Is this something that everyone just gets used to?

Also, god damn I have to work on my nerves whenever I play against another human. Even if I’m just playing around with one of my friends I get so nervous my brain acts as if my life is riding on this match, and I mess up every possible aspect of the game. Guess that’ll fade away just with playing a lot. ;D

New to the site

Hey guys…can’t believe I didn’t learn about this site earlier!!

I’m a player of pre-Playmore SNK games:

Last Blade
Samurai Spirits 1-4
Garou

Of course I love 3rd strike and lately I’ve been a fan of BlazBlue but I’m still not onboard with the 3d/2d thing going on in SS4.

Looking forward to more here on the forum!!

What’s up everyone. I’ve been lurking this site for about a couple of months, but this is my first post. I’m new to the fighting genre and I want to improve in SSF4 and BBCS. One of my biggest flaws as a fighter is reacting and knowing when to attack. I tend to be very passive in fighting games. My main in SSF4 is Juri and my PSN is J-Killer15(replace the i with a lower case L. I was very excited when I got my PS3 3 1/2 years ago).

See you around.

Hey, I’m Henna.
I just bought ssf4 and all Ive been doing is practicing. I’m really bad right now, i cant even beat the biggest noobs online and would like to improve. I started playing with Cody and never let go just because I got comfortable with using him. Even though I think I’m best with him I think i should choose another character? What I’m asking is for some techniques or combos i can use with Cody or if i should think about using another character?

Sup

Sup sup, my PSN is Jansported. I had been playing 3S for awhile til I finally got SSF4 having a lot of fun. I’m quite the competitive player so I look to get better and better at everything. I’m not really that great right now…I have some decent knowledge just need to work on reactions, timing and match-ups. I shoto it up. (i know i know…) There’s not really a local scene that I know of in my immediate area so I’m lookin for people online little better, way better, or ridiculously better than me to spar and learn.

I learn fast and enjoy losing as long as I’m learning. Hope to see you around~

:qcf: :2p:

p.s. PAD til I get my stick later on this year. sadface.

Hey guys, I’m not new to the site. I’ve been a longtime lurker. I finally decided to register and post. I look foward to competing against fellow srk members shortly.

Hey guys, new to this forum. I have been playing fighting games for a while, im the best out of my friends but i get handed online (i play offline mostly). Im looking to get into some local groups to raise my skill. i live in the Pittsburgh area so if you know of any people who get together and play let me know. Most of my fighting games are played on my DC (represent!!) and i mostly play MvC2, CvSnk2, SF3:3rd, and a bit of SF4 (i just wish it was sprite graphics). Im gonna be building my own arcade stick when i get my 360 since im a game pad player now, just cause DC controllers are great for fighting games. finally i just wanted to thank all of the great players on this site to help out the lesser skilled players, it is really appreciated by us. thanks.

Hey!

Been lurking in the background for a while now just picking up information from threads, I figured I may as well make an account, say hi and start actively contributing to the community!

Sup Henna. My advice is stick with the character that feels right with you but make the effort to step away from your main and learn at least one other character. I started playing SF4 with Gen and out of some stubborn notion refused to play with other characters. I realised eventually that I couldn’t play Gen to his potential til I got a stick so I while I waited for a stick I picked up Akuma. Learned alot about Akuma, racked up more wins in a short time and just started to see things different overall. When i did eventually go back to Gen i noticed alot of improvements in my overall gameplay and understanding of both characters. But yeah, imo it’s important to play the charcter that appeals to you most and you’re playstyle preference. I have to admit if a character looks feminine I won’t use them:P

Hello all! Just joined here. Looking to up my game to the next level and take part in many many discussions with you all. Been playing SF since the early 90s. Only recently decided to up my game and get a fightstick

Hey, new to SRK. XBLA tag is Mealy1006. My girl and I. My mains are Ibuki, Akuma, Juri, and Im decent to pretty fn decent with just about everyone else. She likes Sakura and Ken. But still has a way to go, though she can hold her own no doubt. Just wanted to introduce

Hello, new to SRK. Pretty much an ‘09er’. I play a decent Abel, have had Cody and Bison in the lab for a while now, they’re almost there. But yeah thats my story, and just saying hi and open to new challenges!

Yo hows it goin  I’m pretty new to fighting games overall, in other words I’m not very good >.> My first fighting game was Super Street Fighter 4 and I really want to improve. Just getting the formalities out of the way, I play on PS3 and I try to get in some training everyday. Oh yeah, I mainly use Cody, well I try to :stuck_out_tongue:

Am new to this site, love fighters but sux azz, hopefully Ill learn something.

Hey there

Long story short, always loved fighting games, been playing them forever, however I’ve never really learned to play any of them the “right” way. After watching the EVO stream I dusted off my copy of SF4 and decided it would be fun to actually give it a serious shot. Unfortunately 100+ hours of playing the computer (or my button mashing friends) in Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the Dreamcast has taught me several bad habits that I’m currently trying to break.

If anyone out there wants to play with the common goal of getting better in mind, my PSN ID is JimElNino. Feel free to message me on here or PSN if you want to fight a guy who drops combos, has trouble mixing up (but falls for mix-ups all the damn time :-|), and is constantly trying to fight the urge to jump in :razzy:

Also just wanted to say that I would post more except that damn near every question I’ve had has already been answered somewhere. Thanks to everyone who contributes all the info to SRK that people like me take for granted.

EDIT: I should mention that even though I dusted off my copy of SF4, I did go on to purchase SSF4, so if you want to play that’s where you’ll find me.

Just got SSF4 yesterday and have been trying to get used to all this ex cancel stuff… Maining Vega and Dee Jay with some Sakura and came here for knowledge…

Hey all! Been lurking on here for a while. I’ve been playing fighting games at the arcades casually since I was a kid, but at about high school all of the arcades went away in the town I grew up in. I got MvC and MvC2 I guess when I was a kid because I found them in a box about a couple months ago when I was going through some things. I got SF4 and SSF4 when they came out, but I got a fightstick when I purchased SSF4 and have been practicing ever since. I’m pretty terrible right now, but I’ve resolved to spending about 80% of my time in training mode or challenge mode just so I can learn the basics, and that’s really helped. I’m getting better at FADC’s and the basic BnB for a lot of the characters.

Been playing Ryu online as I consider him the “training wheels” of characters but I also like Sakura and Hakan actually if not for the comedic value in playing him.

I’m always welcome to do some skrimming with anyone on PSN who wants to get some practice in. Like I said… I’m bad but I really want to learn and get better… maybe travel to some of the arcades in LA eventually and play some “pro” players down there. That’s a long ways off but I like to shoot high bla bla
