I am a Knicks fan and don’t give a shit if he leaves. He plays zero defense, has no leadership skills and usually is a volume scorer. The offense stagnates with him because it’s usually iso ball. This was his best year and he still didn’t really get many assists.
Melo is a #2 guy that wants to be paid as a #1, and the Knicks overpay too many people to begin with, that’s why they’re in such a mess. Getting rid of some of these bad contracts, or really more letting them expire, is the first step to turning this mess of a franchise around. Then when a truly elite guy is available, maybe the Knicks can actually get them to come to NY. No more Bargnani and JR Smiths and Chandlers, no more bad knee Stoudamires.
I mentioned it briefly in the post about the Bulls, the problem is that its only about 800K more than what Larry Coon projected because everyone has been working on the basis of the cap being $62.5 M. The Rockets have close to the same issue as the Bulls, they need to drop both Asik and Lin with no salary coming back in order to be able to offer 17.5M.
Unless he can get the Knicks to do a sign and trade for Asik and Lin who are owed $30M combined ($16M on the cap) Houston might not be an option either. He could end up stuck with the Knicks.
Who the f#ck wsa he supposed to pass it to? The out of shape PG who was coughing and weezying by half court? Those three point shooters that are now playing for the likes of Indiana? Tyson “I’m good for picks and cuts” Chandler? Amare “Once in a while” Stoudemire? JR “I’m going for 24 threes next year!” Smith? It’s Iverson all over again. In their primes, not only have they been the best guy on their team, but the rest of the team is offensively challenged. They HAVE to put up the shots. What’s the point of passing the ball if it’s going to end up in JR Smith’s hands? Even with goodball movement we all know he’s going to find a way to take the dumbest shot possible. Chandler has to be setup…mostly by a pick and roll that comes from…ISO ball. Same goes for Amare.
The Knicks sucking had NOTHING to do with Melo. He takes unfair criticism for how he plays. Compare him to Harden, who HAS good offensive weapons on his team. Hell, the best comparison is prolly KDurant. Now compare Durant’s teammates to Melo. Even sans Westbrook the Thunder have better pieces to run an offense. Not only that but alot of offense is predicated on your defense, and the Knicks aren’t built for defense either. I blame Woodson a bit for that, but the Knicks were Houston east. Throw a “Defensive Player of the Year” on the block, and let everyone else run around the court like a 2 year old fighting nap time.
Knick fans are IDIOTS if they think Melo leaving is unimportant. What happens if he leaves? JR Smith becomes your #1 option. Marinate on that. and ya’ll got that ninja for at least next season, with I believe a player option for the following year too, so more than likely 2 years as no one is going to want him. Then on top of that, who is going to come to NY? Amare got the oversized contract because NY couldn’t lure any FA. He was the lure to get Melo, so if Melo leaves, what FA is going to come? FAs not coming to NY while Melo is there had more to do with the stuff around Melo. Real talk, if LBJ and Bosh leave MIA but Wade stays, NO ONE is going to play with Wade…he’s just like Amare, you get him for 1/3 of the season.
The Knicks suck, but it’s best for ALL parties involved if Melo stays. No matter where Melo goes next year, they won’t win a chip, so he cn loathe next year in NY sucking all he wants, it’s going to suck anywhere. What if he goes to Chicago? Great the team is going to have to deal with adjusting to a volume scorer, losing the post presence of Boozer (amnesty), and simultaneously adjust to ‘whatever’ Rose comes back as. And NY needs him, not only to fill seats, but to bring talent. They need a backbone and he’s a good person to put in that place. Yes he needs another star, but in the league right now, what ‘single star’ is being successful?
Anthony Davis?
Cousins?
Noah (mildly)?
J Smooth?
Heck - Dirk?
Melo is not getting a fair shake. His number 2 is on that shit Sprewell smoked. His number 3 had a Reebok pump installed in his knees in order for him to play. His number four has had neck issues for a large part of the season and can’t score anyways. His number five came from Toronto and prolly broke his hand on a failed dunk attempt and was looked upon as a bust anyways.
I’m not saying every foul call should be reviewed but I think it’s stupid how refs can review film to see who last touched the ball, completely ignoring the foul that caused a player to lose possession.
This gif needs to be on the next Uncensored Trash Talk.
“Ya’ll are twins?! Fo real??? DON’T FUCK WIT ME NIGGA”
It sucks that he’s a liability on defense. He would be great coming off the bench.
Also, Geo, I haven’t been able to watch much of this season but do you like Lewis being in the rotation instead of Battier? I know Shane’s been in a slump but I feel like he can still give you more defensively than Shard can.
He’s going to have to win a couple of titles for that, unless you mean at the very moment. But career wise obviously he can’t surpass LeBron for awhile.
Here’s what makes LeBron better though. There was nobody to compare LeBron with in the NBA, people had to reach back to Jordan and make those comparisons. As good as Durant is, he is being compared to LeBron, a current NBA player and not a legend. LeBron is greatness, even though he probably can’t use that word in a sentence without grunting and mangling a few words.
