The Official Metal Gear Thread. Snake > All

An Ocelot based game would be an interesting idea. If anything to flesh out how he became Secret-Secret-Secret Agent Man. I wonder if he was running around with Big Boss during that time?

I was thinking about possible remakes of the first two MSX games, but when you think about it, their stories are pretty goofy. Just imagining the Metal Gear 2 fight against Big Boss in 3D with an aerosol can flamethrower makes me chuckle. They’d probably have to do some retconning to both stories to make them work in this day and age.

I thought there was a limit on how much you could die to obtain Big Boss ranking in MGS?

Also, am I the only one who liked Twin Snakes? I felt the Extreme difficulty wasn’t as Extreme as the PSX version however, even if the enemies did follow an exact pattern in PSX.

I guess no one gives a fuck about the new game?

Which new game? Peace Walker or Rising?

Personally, I don’t like the idea of releasing a full blown real sequel to MGS3 (I don’t really consider MG:PO to be a traditional sequel) on the PSP only. The lack of two analog sticks and L2/R2 buttons really bothered me with the PSP MGS games. I’ll still happily play it though!

I’m all over Rising though. Can’t wait to see some actual footage of the game.

I loved it, but I thought there was a lot wrong with it:

-It looked worse than MGS2.

-It was Gamecube exclusive (limiting audience).

-Music was changed for the worse.

-Most of the voice acting was vastly different than the original (Worse).

-No VR missions.

-New gameplay additions made the game easier with no compensation for that.

-No real additions to the main game. Lost opportunity. I believe the developers ran out of time.

Other than that it was great.

Nothing will ever top MGS1. Nothing. What always pissed me off is that Kojima never made a proper sequel. MGS3 wasn’t solid snake, MGS2 you played as GAY ASS Raiden. And in MGS4 Snake is old which for me, takes away from the Snake I loved in MGS1.

I guess to some degree I agree with you, but only on certain points. Like, I thought the music was pretty cool. I do think that the voice acting was an upgrade over MGS. I think the thing that ruined for most people was the fact that some people might have had their voices changed altogether. To my remembrance Decoy Octopus and Baker stick out. I think the cut scenes were much improved albeit kind of unrealistic, but they were better than MGS.

The only thing that might have made the game easier to some degree was that you could do almost everything gameplay wise that you could in MSG2. I did think it was much needed to add the run and shoot simultaneously function in TTS.

And don’t we all know that TTS had the hardest tower climb on Extreme? That part of the game was insanely hard.

Yeah, you can’t die and then continue, but it’s OK to die and go back to the title screen to load your game. I died a bunch of times when I was practicing each segment, but since I went back and loaded my game, you won’t see any of those in the video.

all that is IF you never played the original PS port…the entire game was based off of MGS2’s concept so that’s why it may have astray from the original which is why it felt easier to finish…TS did offer some new content but it was reading files that described events leading up to the game

there was no bad MGS game for me, I enjoyed them all

need info of Rising…

You could still run and shoot in vanilla MGS… just in an awkward manner that wastes bullets. I agree that the cutscenes were better for the most part. It got a little Dragonball Z during a few parts (I loved it when Snake jumps like 20 feet at Metal Gear near the end) but still was pretty cool…

They redid the approach to Shadow Moses mini-cutscenes too. Where they were filling in Solid Snake about the details of the mission and cutting his hair so he didn’t look exactly like Liquid

Am I the only one who doesn’t give a damn about Raiden’s character in MGS2, nor the plot, but just plays for the Tactical Espionage Action game it is?

i haven’t played 4 (no ps3) so i have no idea if they even tried to make sense of what happened in 2. as far as i’m concerned 2 was just a random spin-off to kill some time and keep people happy for a while. raiden was a little bitch.

fission mailed. i need scissors… sixty one!!

I’m probably the only person who likes Raiden. Ever.

Yeah it sucked that Snake wasnt the 100% protagonist of MGS2, but it already happened and people should just quit bitching. Raiden was made the protagonist for a reason, so the player can see Snake’s personality and motives from a 3rd person perspective. If you can’t appreciate that, I don’t think you can call yourself a fan of the series.

MGS2 was hella weird, but I like it for some twisted reason. I remember starting as Raiden in the Plant chapter wondering when the fuck I was going to get control of Snake again.

That ending part too… wow. I also thought it was odd that it raised more questions than it answered from MGS1. Had to wait until MGS4 to get the full scoop.

I like Raiden as well, sure he’s no Solid Snake, but he’s not meant to be. He’s the rookie, much like Snake was in his first games. I really thought it was interesting wondering what the deal was with Snake’s motives while playing as Raiden.

I’d really dig a chance to play as Raiden in his cyborg form. He went from whining rookie in MGS2 to uber badass in MGS4. Fighting with no arms and his sword clenched in his teeth was just amazing.

Rising should answer all questions regarding Raiden imo…

so im guessing that rising is a prelude to MGS4…

pretty sure kojima can come up with some awesome gimmickly bosses to fight…

I just think it wont play like MGS though…maybe the first half will. then you’ll change to cyborg raiden… another question Olga must have had another child or something because how the hell did raiden save sunny from the patriots??

damn come on Kojima

You gotta wait til Castlevania is done with.

Rumor has it that is the plot of Rising. Raiden infiltrating the Patriots to get Sunny, getting caught, getting experimented on like Gray Fox, escaping, sets stage for MGS4, etc.

did you say… nerd?

ok i’m done now.

I liked Raiden too.

I really hope MGS Rising isn’t some flashy game that’s mainly stylistic slashing and combos and shit like Devil May Cry. I’m not into that shit. I really hope they don’t just use the MGS name to push that kind of shit, and the phrase “Lightning Bolt Action” as opposed to Tactical Espionage Action kind of worries me regarding that. Too bad it’s not PS3 exclusive, too.
