The Official Mass Effect 3 Thread: True Ending only 1600 MS Points

Best part about the “best ending” is… [details=Spoiler]that if you are indeed part synthetic as pointed out by the Catalyst, you should have died. You living is a huge oversight (though this was clearly intentional IMO) and should be further explained if this is true or they need to come out and tell you exactly what was going on. Until then, we will just have to live with the huge ass plot holes in general.[/details]

This guy basically describes everything that is wrong with the ending (spoiler alert)

Makes sense, but I think the damage has been done. Plenty of games have given us terrible endings, but they don’t get re-written later down the road. Demanding Bioware to make a DLC ending sounds…wrong, I guess? Now that we know what happens, you can’t really not see it now…we can only pretend that it didn’t happen the way it did.

The best we can hope for now is some post-game DLC detailing what happens after the ending.

Actually, Bethesda did this for Fallout 3. Basically the ending stops after a certain event and then the game ends, which is normal for fallout games but not something Bethesda is known for. There was a lot of backlash from the Bethesda fanbase because they expected to be able to play after beating the game (the rest of the backlash came from the Fallout fans stating that FO3 was a shitty fallout game ). Later DLC was released that picks up right where the game ends, but also added more to the events after the ending and properly wrapped things up and adds the option to keep playing even after completing the story.

I’ll take whatever definitive answer they can give us. As long as it’s better than the alternative theories people are coming up with. It’s like Squall is dead all over again.

Squall died. It was all a dream used to read no word magazines etc.

The best thing they can (and should) do at this point is add all the cut content from the leaked script to the game . With this there is more definite answer as to what happens but it still doesn’t address some of the problems. I still have no idea why they though that ditching the original endings was a good idea, they covered most of the issues that people have with these endings. o_O

I also liked how they were originally going to handle Kai Leng and the situation with the Vermire Survivor and Udina (and the Prothean?).
Then the situation with Liara and the fight on Thessia was neat too.

So… does anyone have or know where to obtain the original leaked script? I’d like to read it myself after being so disappointed…

You can read some of the things here but as for the actual script…

http://pastebin.com/ferTx1qx this one is much, much shorter.
http://pastebin.com/KYJNWGug this one is longer but more complete. I recommend reading this one.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ctb61lb1bejggz2 this is almost 100k lines of text and it’s not in any sort of logical order so I would skip it completely.

Okay the ending sucked. I’m not going to go into a 3 paragraph long diatribe about it. It sucked.

Bioware shouldn't have changed shit because of a leaked script. I had no knowledge of a leaked script because I don't want to spoil games I know I'm going to play. The vast majority of players would never have seen this information. I really don't understand why anyone would be interested in reading it as all that would accomplish is spoiling the game. I didn't read a single article or watch a single video before the game came out. Just like movies I know I'm going to see, I avoid the previews/trailers. Anyways, Keep the ending and story that you originally had, you obviously thought it was the best and that's why you had it in the first place.

And just an aside, it’s been a while since I played through ME1, but I seem to remember indoctrination being a process that required a lot of time and close proximity to reapers. Saren was flying around inside literally inside Sovereign for what had to be weeks or months and that’s how he got indoctrinated. Now it seems like everyone is under reaper influence and as far as the game tells you, there hasn’t been a reaper around to indoctrinate anyone. Sovereign was the only one not in “dark space” or whatever place. They just now woke up and started their harvesting, when did they have time to slowly poison anyone’s mind?

[details=Spoiler]Well the only one that got truly indoctrinated was TIM, mainly because he partially transformed into a husk from coming into contact with a Dragon Tooth though he resisted the full husk transformation, the indoctrination process began there for him. When you defeat sovereign in ME1, it is Cerberus who gets their hands on the wreckage, thus being around constant reaper technology and probably speeding up the indoctrination process.

It makes sense for Shepard to be subject to indoctrination if any tech in his body is reaper based, which is totally possible. Also from what I recall, there were ancient prothean ruins on mars, which most likely had reaper tech in them that the protheans were studying in some of their secret bases (like Ilos) so there is probably plenty of scattered reaper influence throughout the galaxy as it is. That and Harbinger waited until Shepard was most vulnerable to try to fully indoctrinate (though there are a few scenes that suggest that they were trying to indoctrinate Shepard from the beginning of the game, similar indoctrination events occur in one of the books apparently), that’s if you believe in the indoctrination theory. [/details]

Spoiler

Shepard wasn’t indoctrinated. The Catalyst straight up says he isn’t. Then states that the only reason the Illusive Man wasn’t able to activate the Citadel was because he was already indoctrinated.

Spoiled the game for myself due to lack of caring.

Ending is about what I expected. I’m not exactly pissed about the ending but I’m not exactly happy about the ending. More or less indifferent.
I think deep down everyone knew something similar to the “main” ending was going to happen.

[spoiler=] In the best ending though you kill just the Reapers and the Mass Relays, the Geth still live. It just is not explained worth a shit. They tried to go with that stupid fucking Sopranoes ending to not piss off the people who wanted him to live or the people who wanted him to die. That video pretty much summed it up though, there should have been an option for both and a definitive ending not that shit we got. Killing the relays just make no sense at all and was one of my biggest pet peeves about the ending. You completely killed the whole message behind the series in the first place and turned it into a shitty Michael Bay movie.[/details]

  • … leave it to SRK to be just like the rest of the internet. Guess I’ll just have to beat this title to see what the hub bub is about since it’s really hard to see that from the general consensus.

  • The stats go down in Multiplayer? does this count during gameplay, too?

The only stat that goes down over time is the readiness rating, which affects how much of your military strength gets carried over to the final battle.

Despite the uproar over the ending, I will say this:[details=Spoiler]
[LIST]
[]The events leading up to the ending is great
[
]There’s no final boss to fight, which works in the game’s favour. They didn’t pull a FF9 and just throw in a final boss for the hell of it.[/details]
[/LIST]

[details=Spoiler]
Agreed that the game overall was great, even though a lot of parts from Thessia and on were a hot mess at times.

Harbinger anyone? Fight could have been using a ship mission using the thanix canons to blast the fucker in the eye and giving Joker some screen time to show off, and be the badass pilot that he is.[/details]

The shitstorm continues:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/03/13/mass-effect-3-and-the-pernicious-myth-of-gamer-entitlement/

Hahahaha, people think they’re entitlted to a good ending?

Imagine somebody walking out of a theater and going “I didn’t like the twist in that film, could I have my money back please”; nobody would take them seriously.

In fact somebody tried to pull something similar with Drive; http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/oct/10/woman-sues-drive-trailer

This is getting ridiculous now. This isn’t the first time we’ve had bad endings to games, let alone games of a long-running series. I don’t want this generation to go down as being the “entitlement generation.” I hope this doesn’t start a trend where gamers will start demanding re-writes of future games’ endings, because it won’t stop there.
