The Official King of Fighters REVENGE Thread

Well yeah that goes without saying

I just don’t see what that has to do with Geese

Which is the only rule I guess that I’m talking about

I mean it just seems weird that what’s keeping him in or out of the game is just one little glitch fix

but yeah it’s not really worth discussing further. Your opinion holds much more weight than mine on the issue anyways.

Just gotta wait it out I guess

You know what you’re right I didn’t see it that way before thanks for posting

Why do we need another revision of 2002 UM only a MONTH after the game first came out.

I don’t understand Playmore’s reasoning at all on this.
As DG previously said, any arcade release of 2002 UM would totally steal the thunder from KOF XII (outside of the US, where no arcades exist for 95% of the fanbase).
Once again, Playmore is just going to shoot themselves in the foot AGAIN after in 2004-2005 when SS Tenka, NGBC, and KOF XI all came out within months of each other. I guess some people never learn.

They should AT LEAST wait until 2010 to start talking about a revision. Give the players a year to compile the metagame, which characters need to be tweaked, what needs to be balanced.
Maybe KOF 2002 will be SNK’s Madden from now on, with a new update and roster every year or something…because after Neowave, KOF 2002 UM, and now this things are starting to get ridiculous.

I thought they said it wasn’t clear in an interview if they were going to make revisions or not?

I still don’t think SNK would do that after just selling the home version to people a little over a month ago.

As for 12 I think SNK was prepared for it to flop with such an early console release

So SNK can make more money from Japan/Asia pretty much, and also a fall back incase XII does flop (which is what half the community wants anyway)

Chopperman, no I want everyone’s opinion to hold weight. But I know from playing how much one little change can do to a game, doesn’t matter what it is, one thing can utterly change the game, and besides, I bet that’s not gonna be the only thing that changes the game, I’ll bet $100 on that. Other bugs are gonna get addressed, which once again changes the game. They rarely just fix one thing in upgrades, they normally fix a bunch of things, clearly separating the game from the other version.

Even if they just fix the bugs its a different game.

The irony is people were already jumping OFF the KOFXII machine to play 2002 ROR in arcades in China… And sure Dr. NG is gonna say 'It wont affect", of course he’s gonna say that, but thats inconsistent with why the loketest for ROR was “secret”, its inconsistent with why the console version came out FIRST.
2002 could become Madden because they know its the game everyone plays so they’ll keep milking it for all its worth…

Maybe we get a HD version of 2002 in a few years lol.

Now here’s hoping that there’s going to be a stateside release for this shit. (I can now see why they skimped on 2k2UM now)

EDIT: BTW, DG by hiding your Geese tricks, it makes people want to ban him even more so. Say the Major comes by and you rape them, you’re definitely setting your favorite character to a ban trial. Let people see what’s so good about him and show them how they can defeat him and they won’t whine.

Making 2k2 in HD in a few months would be stupid, maybe in a few years. (Seeing its popularity)

I was wondering the same thing…when you posted in the thread I actually thought you might say why SNK might have a good reason for doing this, but you’re thinking what I was.

But again, I’ve pretty much only played KOF2K2 vanilla and Neowave so my opinion is probably irrelevant on this issue. Still, I’m trying to see the advantage to this revision and I don’t…maybe the team found something in the game they really felt need to change and want to make this the definitive version to cover it up?

What exactly would this mean for a US KoF 02UM release? We’d either get 02UM standard or have to wait even longer for the Revenge version I take it. If they end up making us wait I think it’d work to do the arcana heart method of fighting with characters in either iteration (like choosing to fight with original or FULL versions) or with the the option in KoF XI to play on arcade or arrange rules. That way anyone can be happy playing which way they want. I don’t really play at a high level so I never really notice many changes between other versions in most games.

That would be an interesting idea, something along the lines of PS2 Arcade Heart or something similar. I don’t think SNKP will do that, unless they rerelease 02UM w/ that option.

No shit, that was my point.

It’s almost as if they WANT KOF XII to fail.
SNK fanboys are even worse than SF fanboys when it comes to change.

They have to know that KOF XII with its small and shitty roster, no bells and whistles, no new characters, no bosses, and funky shit like clashing and Criticial Counter isn’t going to appeal to the fanbase as much as 2002 UM.

If they were smart that would be focusing completely on marketing KOF XII in the US, and while teaming up with EVO and holding an (invitational?!) tournament is a small step forward (compared to the past where they did…nothing), I don’t believe it’s going to be enough.
I don’t see the mindset of the typical ignorant and shallow American gamer pumping out to pay $60 for a PS3 game with 2-D graphics, no matter how good the animation is. Sadly, ever since Sony of America’s anti-2D policy in the PS1 days, gamers have been successfully brainwashed to believe console 2-D graphics= cheap and old. I mean the closest thing to an exception in recent year was Odin Sphere and it did alright–not super great, but still alright. And that game had a hell of lot more going for it than KOF XII does (released at $40, on the PS2, back when 360 and PS3 libraries were the pits, less of a niche genre, every magazine around splooged over the art and gave it high reviews).
If KOF XII had been made with fugly low-res Cel Shaded 3-D like Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, though…

^^And if they made it in 2.5D there would be problems there as well. It just doesn’t have the brand name of SF, so it’s almost exclusively given sales by the fans. Besides that, the hardcore fighter fans that are curious about SNK. I’d leave the 3D to MIRA3 instead and put the huge casual hype on that instead.

Note: I’m talking US here.

Trust me, if I end up passing on KOFXII it’ll be because of the roster, not because of the 2D art. Shit, the game doesn’t even have Chang Koehan in it from what I’ve read, and he’s like the 5th guy I go to if I ever need people on my team…I mean, I can understand Yamazaki, Yashiro, and May Lee being gone due to storyline issues and shit, but Chang? He’s been there since what, 95?96?Maybe even 94?

Return of Shiki:

> SNK fanboys are even worse than SF fanboys when it comes to change.

I don’t know about that. However:

> I don’t see the mindset of the typical ignorant and shallow American gamer pumping out to pay $60 for a PS3 game with 2-D graphics, no matter how good the animation is.

Query: Why are you specifying “American gamer” here? Can you name a single area where any “typical” gamer is going to shell out $60 for a PS3 game with 2D graphics (and a 2D fighting game at that!) en masse? It’s not as though KoFXII is going to sell a million copies in Japan. Hell, I’d be surprised if it sells one-tenth that number, and not just because the JPN market is so shitty right now. Japan might shell out for a $60 game for Wii in huge numbers. From Nintendo. And if it was a Mario title or Pokemon title. Anything else? Not bloody likely.

Face it: If it’s not on DS or JPN arcade, 2D graphics isn’t popular period. No point in singling out American gamers for this. Europe and Japan are no different. If you find a title with 2D graphics selling big numbers (let’s say, 500,000+), it’s usually in spite of the graphics, not because of them.

unfortunately i agree with y… i really dont understand why ppl love the funny/weird/stupid faces of SFIV and completely ignore kofXII…only cause is 2D.
Of course i’m talking about ppl here in italy who bought SFIV ONLY because is cool/trendy but they cant even make a d+hp->hadoken with ryu! this ppl who paid sth like 70 (!!!) @ gamestop won’t pay another 60-70 or whatever will be for KOFXII cause it’s not cool/funny like SF4… that really makes me sick… :annoy:

If anything needs to be blamed, it’s the new “High Definition” agenda that was spread across the world.

Now-a-days ppl won’t look at anything if it isn’t big and in HD. XII doesn’t stand a chance. SNK already pales in fanbase when compared to Capcom, but XII won’t hit just because of some hand-drawn sprites and good reviews from gaming magazines.

02UM/Revenge will be SNK’s gift to the 2D fans out there. Come on, who invests time and money into a dying market w/o thinking of supply-and-demand. Obviously SNK is not completely oblivious to their small fanbase.

Not necessarily true. When 02UM hit PS2 in Japan it was the #4 on the list in regards to games being sold that weekend. It’s not HD that’s for sure, so there is still a chance for KOF XII.

-DG

And those sales were most likely formed by old-time KOF players, not because it’s 2D or anything.

True, but still bottom line is that KOFXII has a chance to sell also. It’s still too early to call in regards to how KOFXII will be received, I mean after all remember everyone the bad reviews SF4 was getting when it just got released, and now see how everyone and their momma for the most part is now all giddy over the game. (Not I says the fly!!! )

So it’s still wayyy too early to dismiss this game as a goner when we need to give it some time, give it tournament exposure.

Because what you all have to realize is that in the hardcore arena its the community that drives the game. It’s the tournaments that drive the game. Use 3s as a good example, many were badmouthing it for a very long time, that is until 2004 came and Daigo did some things to gain some converts. Now the rest is history.

Look at Final Round, because of the Justin vs. Gootecks Final and Kensou playing Viper now we got a lot of people that dismissed SF4 even at Final Round taking the game seriously!!!

So we can’t write it off just yet. People say this game is vanilla? I intend on breaking that belief, writing a new chapter for this game and showing people just how EXCITING this game can be. Some times all it takes is one person to open doors for people by just showing things to people that they hadn’t thought about before or dismissing things like “only Kula and Gato rule the game” or other things like that.

Doesn’t take much to excite a crowd, it’s just gotta be new and exciting lol, that’s what I’ve learned.

-DG

I have to completely disagree with you Geese. The example that you put, 3S was a commercial flop. It didn’t sell well and had to be packaged with SFII to be sold. I’m not saying it’s a bad game, it’s just that while it got a hyped hardcore fanbase because of tourney play, it sold jack shit.

Hardcore 2D fighting fans number usually pretty low (tens of thousands in the US) and in the US the arcade scene is just not as top notch as it is there. Of course they’re hype for KOF2k2, because it’s in their culture. Over here there’s a poor arcade scene, save for big cities and a few dedicated entrepeneurs.

What’s going to really sell in big numbers is going to be the casual crowd and let’s face it. THEY SUCK. They are narrow-minded people, pub players, FPS nuts, Ken scrubs, backwards families, losers, graphics whores, and you name it. The only reason they nabbed SFIV was the “pretty HD graphics” and reminds them of their youthful arcade years. They play story mode, get some achievements, spam shoryuken, and move on to the next game (presumably some FPS game).

I know these people, I talk to them, and I try to get them hype for this shit, and it’s not easy. Hell, it was hard enough to get people hype for SFIV, imagine BB and KOFXII that few people have heard about and have these ancient things called “sprites”. (“What is this? Super Nintendo?,” they say) I almost became one of these guys at some point.

I know you wanna stay positive Geese, since this is your scene and all, but it’s just…sigh Who knows? Maybe they’ll do alright and survive for another FF, SS, or KOF, but I doubt that 2D will be on their minds though. I think SFIV sealed the fate for 2D hand drawn fighters now.

Yeah you are right about that, esp if you wanna talk about here in America, I’ll be the first to tell you that here in America as I’ve said on my youtube videos etc, “People are gonna dabble with it then go back to what they really wanna play!”

I’m no fool, I can see through it here. You can tell if someone is a dabbler by their level of play in a game. So I agree wholeheartedly with you here, I am talking about overall around the world. (Since Daigo=Japanese influenced not only the 3s movement here but everywhere) If that is what we are talking about then thats what I think, then it has a chance around the world. Here? Hahaha, I dont think so, Capcom has this country by the balls and thus Capcom has their clients until they stop making Street Fighter or this generation of gamers dies off.

I’m just hoping HERE at least that it’ll be the most successful entry of SNK into a Capcom country.
