The Official Japan Thread 2.0 "Nani?"

its all about the ?? babyyy

thank you guys

Ah awesome! I’ll definitely be in touch with you very soon as my schooling is almost over the hump, as in time, before graduation. And thanks guys for answering my questions. Sorry if it was annoying possibly seeing the same questions up many times before, but I was very antsy to getting these questions answered but thanks again!

I’m going to start checking this thread out a lot more and again it’s up in the air but for me, it could be very much reachable for living in Japan. Thanks!

And Keyhole tv is great!

I’ll probably swing my Mist in Umeda after work tomorrow. Monte is getting it too but I think the crowds there will be crazy.

ayooooooo

Oh shit, bad typo.

I have a question about receiving my deposit back for my apartment. Basically I’m moving back to the states in 2 weeks to finish my degree, so I give my 2 weeks notice that I’m moving out. The problem is that I can only receive my deposit back through a bank transfer a month after I move out. Since I’m moving out of the country, I’m supposed to close my bank account right? This creates a problem because I have no way to get my money. I was thinking maybe open a Citibank account since they operate in the states too, would that be an option? Any other ideas?

And if I terminate my AU contract early, can I pay the termination fee and last bill with a credit card? I remember that Softbank didn’t allow my friend to pay her last bill with a credit card.

Didn’t know this thread was here. Awesome. Anyway, I’m studying Japanese in college at the moment and though it rapes my brain sometimes, I still enjoy it. Luckily for me, my college has an affiliation with a college in Osaka to study. I’m thinking about doing that once I finish Japanese 2 (that way I’ll get my Katakana in). Eh, but it really depends. My professor was talking how the demand for Japanese 3 and 4 have gone up so… Maybe I’ll wait and see. But I’m definitely thinking of doing it for a semester or a whole year. Mainly cause, if you’re picked to go, you go tuition-free and just need spending money. Everything else is paid for. So, I figure, why the fuck not? Better do it before I graduate, y’know? :coffee:

Man, I’m just happy I can read Hiragana without much problem. Will definitely subscribe.

Ended my vanilla career with a 19 win streak.

Let’s go SSFIV AE

Neesa - If you do decide to come, go for the full year. By the time you get here, if you only do one semester, you’ll find yourself going home once you finally feel accustomed to Japan. After 9 months tho, you get enough time to get used to Japan, and even 9 months will fly by.

Is the university Kansai Gaidai by any chance? I studied abroad there. My Japanese went up exponentially after 2 semesters of study abroad. I had friends who did it for 1 semester, and everyone that went home after 1 semester wanted to stay for a 2nd one.

Anyways, if you actually have an interest in learning Japanese, then def go for the study abroad. If you want to sort of learn Japanese but don’t really care that much about it aside from learning hiragana/katakana and basic phrases, then it might be in your best interest to stay at your school and focus on your major. However, a study abroad experience is def a once in a lifetime thing. I know doing that changed the direction that I chose to go…

Ended mine with…

w00t (i ended with more BP later on but the rank remains the same lol)

just checked my stats, apparently my highest win streak was 46… even i couldnt believe it. i thought its 20 something…

Yeaaaah finally got my JET application number in. Lets see if I get past the screening process.

46, pretty sick. I’ve got 17k bp / 117 wins out of 161 matches / 72.67% win rate…Not sustainable on the long term.

U probably stringed those 46 wins in a few sittings and just didn’t realise u were wrecking house

my win rate is pretty shit, since i started playing as a total scrub lol, and played a lot of top players and get raped lol…

972 wins out of 2548, 38.15% <--------- scrubbb

Don’t feel bad… I’m scrubby too. I think I was at 39 percent before I retired my card… I easily played 2500 + games lifetime.

Look forward to playing the new version today. I just wish I wasn’t so broke. :x

yeah its gonna be 100yen a pop at my arcades… milk that shittttttt

Nana - I’m genuinely interested in learning the language. Not just the academic stuff either. When I was younger, I was interested in it for weeaboo purposes. However, I’m older and that side of me has died (mostly). Since I’m only doing 4 classes this semester, I’ll be able to really focus on it next semester.

And it’s through Momoyama (St. Andrews), which is connected with NJCU. I told my family about it and they’re super excited for me to go. Hell. No kids. Not married. Why the fuck not? I figured 2 semesters of JUST studying Japanese would help a lot. Though my current major doesn’t require me to learn it (Art Therapy), I’ve always wanted to. But, thanks for the heads up/advice. I really appreciate it. Who knows, maybe some hospital’ll need me or something once I’m done.

So mad my parents made me learn Spanish in middle school when they offered Japanese. Spanish is the pussy way out of all the academic languages, imo.
:coffee:

Haha best of luck to you! I also applied for the JET program, so we’ll see if either of us get accepted. I haven’t heard any word back but I did submit like a week before the deadline so I’m sure I’m at the bottom of the pile.

No worries man, it’s not annoying, just there has been a LOT of good info that has been put up and well worth the effort to check out:

BBQ: Japan can be a real life-changing experience… it is true. But it depends on your disposition and initial acceptance/outlook of experiencing a new culture and country. Japan definitely has its strong points, but like anything in life… Japan isn’t perfect. There may be some things that will confuse and irritate you. I’ve seen some people be super gung-ho about living in Japan as they arrive, then end up hating it because their expectations were too high or unrealistic.

But if you have an open mind and are accepting of the culture, you’ll probably enjoy yourself immensely. I’d say Japan definitely changed my life, and I hope to live here for a long long time. But even if I had to go home tomorrow, living here for 4 years did me a lot of good. I would recommend anyone to try and live in a different country for at least a year… it changes your perspective on life in a great way.

JET Program or teaching English is a good way to get your foot in the door to stay in Japan, but teaching isn’t for everyone. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to devise lesson plans and whatnot, but helping kids and giving them more interest in foreign cultures make all the work worthwhile. Word of warning: Going through this type of program… can keep you from “full immersion”. Your co-workers will speak English, and sometimes it may be too convenient to just rely on them or their English-speaking friends and not challenge yourself to learn the language. If you want a balls-to-the-wall challenge, it’s probably best to find a study-abroad program to come here for a year or so. From what people have told me, they are more on their own and have to really bone up on Japanese to have any sort of communication with peers.

Regardless, when you come here… if you really want to get better at the language I’d suggest that you not rely too much on English from the get-go. It’s something that I regret, but trying to rectify each day that I’m fortunate to stay in Japan.

I’d go on, but I have to go to work.

SSF4 mobile site is up now.

just as i thought its slow as ass right now though.
