The Official Japan Thread 2.0 "Nani?"

I’m just curious. I don’t speak Japanese, but how come when mago and tokido play street fighter on the stream mago rarely watch and pay attention to tokido playing. Is he too cool for that or something. He always seem to look away and talk to ksk about something else. I also have 2 more question. Do Japanese players study or copy each other move as much as U.S copying moves from japan aka youtube. What about calling each other scrubs. Do the the Japanese players call other players a scrubs when the scrubs are inferior to them or is it just an U.S thing. I can’t seem to get Japanese street fighter player personality at all. They seem to be like androids from outer space.

i dont know. for me you dont look really Japanese but if I didnt really think about it I would think you were, especially since your Japanese is so top-notch. so i think most people would just treat you normally and not “oh he’s SE azn” sorta way.

and even though you havnt been to america you remind me of regular americans and not the fobs that Ive met over there so your cool in my book

I dont think I can answer the mago not watching tokido play part, no big deal to me. Maybe if tokido is fighting a known, top player, he will pay attention and say something, other than that, its up to him what he wanna do during the stream. Plus, you said “talk to ksk about something else”, you dont speak japanese, howd you know if hes talking about the game and not “something else”?

I dont know about the “copying” each other, but I guess things like that bound to happen every now and then especially if the stuff they saw on youtube(though to be honest they dont really bother watching youtube much, japanese have plenty of top players streaming their sessions, and they have stuff like godsgarden stream) are something “new” that they never know about before — why not? i mean, in a way its part of learning, no? Plus they are not obsessed on “hey you copied insert whatever here!!”

The scrubs part, from my experience hanging out with japanese players(be it known/unknown top players, to your average joe player), the scrubs mentality might still be there but its different, not in a negative way. More like, instead of callin someone scrubs, “beginner” is the term usually used. You can be a scrub and fight a good player and ask the player for tips etc, and the guy will give you advice. They really help each other, they even help me(a non-japanese) with a lot of stuff. Most of the players are humble but still every once in a while, they might pull some cocky stuff too(either in a joking manner or with a bunch of close friends or when they have alcohol in they system e.g. tokido @FRJ )… Some, like Mago, has mad confidence and shit, back then in vanilla he was somehow cocky/bored at how good he is(being #1 player in japan and all) but still with a touch of humility and if you played him and asked for tips, i bet he will help.

@forgenjuro - awwww. Introduce me to cool places in Tokyo yo

Man gonna miss Final Round by a day! :frowning:

I might PM some of you guys to see if you have free time between the the 28th and the 1st or so to meetup for an interview and hopefully either some casuals with some locals either at an arcade or whereever.

Be cool to get your thoughts on final round japan and what it’s like being able to attend loke tests and square off against the best players in the world. Also the challenges of building an offline community inside and outside of the arcades.

Also going to try and have a little feature on what the best arcades and shops to check out for fighting game fan tourists in Tokyo. So far BIG BOX in Shinjuku and Akihabara are on the list. Gonna try to find some SF Gashapons to giveaway at our New Zealand tournaments.

Ok I think I’ll shoot for showing up around 10-10:30 to Avion. 9:30 is just way too early for me (takes over 2 hours to get there). Maybe I’ll be there at 11, who knows. I will show up either way no matter what tho.

is there any chance to get SBO tickets at this time? looks like I’ll have a business trip next week but contemplating whether to head over a few days earlier to attend the event

so i heard Ingrid is in ssf4 lol

based on Reno’s tweet that is…

edit: not sure anymore haha

Are there different classes of SBO tickets or just regular tickets ?

Pictures From Dat night in Shinjuku

hahah sweet

I only got one RSVP for Yakinku gathereing after SBO. Are there parties after SBO? I can wait til Tue if anyone is up for it.

oh i almost forgot about it. I’ll go if there is one!

The problem is there are so many “yes, no, maybe so” gatherings/parties around this time, people just do everything on the spur of the moment.

Nice meeting elstob and I think it was Silver Fury (?) at the location test yesterday. Sorry I couldn’t stick around longer, had crap to do

hi guys, i booked my flight to vietnam and japan. i leave in a few days.
i’m feeling very intimidated by the whole train thing in japan.
ill be arriving at the Narita Airport and i’m staying at the Sakura Hostel in Asakusa. can you guys please give me some directions on how to get to my hostel?
do i just take the Asakusa train from the airport? is it a far walk to the station? im so clueless i dont even know how to ask the question. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I promise I won’t cry so much when I lose… I’ve changed my ways. Sorry.

I’ve passed a few hurdles towards my Study Abroad in Fukuoka. It’s certainly not “in-the-bag” yet but I’m starting to eye tickets and trip-planning. I’ve been looking at IACE travel, which seems to have the best air-rates but seems to only have Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka as destinations. I have to get from Osaka (closest) to Fukuoka and I’m wondering the cost of a trip on the Sanyo Shinkansen. I can’t seem to find any prices or I’m not going to the right site. If there are other(cheaper) ways to get to Fukuoka let me know. I’m willing to take a two-day long train trip if it saves me 50%

Ditto this. I had stuff to do, but it was nice to meet you guys!

Mad un-props to Azraels friends for changing his plans to afternoon so he couldnt go to outback with me. :frowning:
