LOL you are going to jizz yourself when you get to Akihabara.
Yeah most likely But I wouldn’t mind >.>
But is it a good choice to actually stay in a hotel in the middle of Akihabara? I mean, we do wanna see more stuff from Tokyo, is it really all scattered around or are there some more interesting places concentrated in a certain region?
Seeing Japanese schoolgirls or maids on the street ain’t that bad, but we’d love to see some other things as well in those few weeks
I stayed in Chiba for 2 weeks last year. in those two weeks ( it was during monkai, i think thats what it was called)
so the sakura were out full bloom, it was gnarly. felt soo dreamlike.
I had the chance to go to kyoto, for a few days and do some temple gazing.
i did alot of tourist stuff, and stayed with a japanese family.
I tried playing tekken 5 and some other fighting games, i got schooled. ( i hadnt played tekken since tekken3/tekken tag)
I really wanted to end up with a teaching job over there, but i just didnt have the credentials for it. everywhere I looked online i found that i needed a B.A. or some sort of english course from a university level.
now i am in college back home in canada, and wait till i can afford to go back to this awsome place.
I am doing IT in college, however my speaking japanese is not strong and is very basic. I can read hiragana but nothing else, except maybe the kanji for book. so i doubt i will be able to get some IT work over that way.
Perhaps I should keep it vacation place rather than a home.
anyhow, if i ever get the chance to go back, ill be sure to check SRK for some of you folks and come down to a gamecenter to play some casuals.
Perhaps it’s the Filipino in you that doesn’t make you shy. =P j/k, haha.
Would you mind telling me how you go about making friends here? How would one approach girls at a Starbucks? Especially when he looks Japanese, and people will just think he’s some crazy stalker if he tries to start a conversation.
Sounds good, invite me sometime? I don’t wanna drink alone…it just seems too depressing IMO. =/
I’m thinking about going to the pizza party tomorrow, but I don’t get off work until 7:30 pm (fuck AEON work hours). So realistically, I probably won’t be there until 8:30 pm or so…will that be OK? Do you guys plan on doing anything after 10 pm?
those of you who want to go should pm bull410 if you want more details.
My bad, I shoulda been more clear. I meant the actual area of Meguro, not the station. But I checked online, and it does seem pricey anyways…
The Tokyu-Toyoko line seems legit since its right in the middle of Shibuya (where my college will be at) and Yokohama (my favorite city)
I hear its humid as fuck right now…
I kinda want to go buy BlazBlue today or tomorrow, but I also realize that I know nothing about the game and don’t have a whole lot of time to play it either.
Rockband2 was off the chain yesterday! Sarah came thur with the mean side fiddles too! I think everyone has a few good pictures from last nightas well. I’ll try to post some later on this afternoon when I wake back up.
Genjuro: Did I leave my hat at your place?
y2kenjination: I have the same problem until I open my mouth, then they know I’m a foreigner and the foreigner aura comes out. It sounds like you know Japanese pretty well, so that probably doesn’t help you stand out (oddly enough). I stand out mostly because I can’t communicate well and I guess I’m a bit quirky in general… American or not.
I got really really REALLY lucky and was contacted by someone through mixi. She needed help with her English conversation class and she wrote me a PM asking me if I was interested in helping her. This is my main social channel in Japan now… I have met a lot of students who became great friends and they also help me a lot with Japanese. The teacher of this class is really popular and has been adding new students quite often. And yes, some of the students are cute girls who are learning English. Unfortunately, I am hopelessly retarded when it comes to hooking up with girls so I haven’t had any luck from that department and have currently given up on looking for someone. :shake:
I guess what you could do to meet new people is to keep putting yourself out there. Join clubs… like a sports club, a volleyball or badminton weekly get-together, etc. Volunteer your time to help with certain causes. Enlist your services for something outside of work that involves English or any of your skill sets, so you will be the focal point of the group and everyone will know off the bat that you are the foreigner.
I think the coffee shop route is difficult and you pretty much explained why. Just talking to someone randomly in Japan is out of everyone’s element, unless you’re trying to hit on one of the girls that work there and you’re a regular. I think the coffee shop is a great place when you already met a friend and you ask them to hang out with you to drink coffee. It’s a horrible place to meet someone. Meeting people through work never worked in America (at least for me), and it doesn’t work here either IMO. I also don’t hang out with many foreigners in my area.
Yes it sucks to be Ninja Gaijin but there are ways to stand out. Good luck.
do the japanese have the same sort of drinking culture as koreans? i’ve been out several times at restaurants (not bars) and had random people approach me with the shot glass and soju combo wanting to me to drink with them, and these are normal not necessarily drunk people.
does this same thing happen in japan, and if so how do you guys feel about that? i drink a lot, so it’s not really a problem for me but i could see someone who couldn’t handle their liquor being kinda perturbed by strangers constantly trying to force alcohol down their throat.
maybe… im not sure ill have to take a look. I only got 2 pics but those two are golden! ill see if i can get em up. Calibur is still past out.
dont give up mang! im sure there are girls who love to be wit you. Hell id let you fuck my sister just for those awesome drawings you did at the SF4 lok-tests. Of course i dont have a sister…
i think you should go to a maid cafe and start drawing the maids there in that cutesy art style of yours and they would be all over you fa sho!!
rarely happens in Japan. unless your Scott P.
koreans IMO are about 2-4 X crazier than Japanese ppl. Except for sexual fetishes. We do that the best!!!
Dat Bum! Anyway, if you see it hold on to it for me. Here are a few pictures for now. Pictures of Shibuya during Grime Time:
[]Adverse And Some Girl[]Group Picture[]Genjuro and Yuuuuuu![]Ohhh no! Not the inside of my right Tim’s “YOU LOSE!”
hahaha HOLY FUCK i look absolutely crazy in that 3rd pic!
here are my 2
Yeah you got that, “We are VENOM!” MVC2 face in that picture. And I gotta give it to you. Yes you did call it. Them cats in the BUSH were mega gone. After, I took that picture that girl was like. I wanna get in that picture too! She layed down with them. I was like, “Trick! You getting waaaay to close to the animals! That’s vomit over then!” She was like. “Whatever?!” and dove on in.
I still don’t understand how one person can sleep so still.
Damn, some grimy flicks there lol. Glad I didn’t have to see those scenes.
Had hella fun, good times SRK bruthas. Too bad I couldn’t go home with big glasses girl though. : /
Next stop, Finland!
Don’t approach girls at the coffee shop unless you got no fear… and since you said you’re shy, i wouldn’t recommend it lol. you gotta realize that even for the best looking and best talking guys, the odds of anything happening are not in your favour most of the time, but it can happen.
Do what Kunai says if you’re the shy type; join a bunch of clubs and activities so that it’s a no pressure situation and you don’t have to force yourself to do anything you don’t want to. I mean, if you’re the type who likes to go out drinking and party, of course going to a bar or a club is better, but if you’re the quiet type who needs to have a no pressure situation it’s not going to work for you, even if you force it.
Be easy we will see you when you swing back this way. And remember, “I LIKE YOU BECAUSE YOUR BiG AND BLACK!”
Thanks man. Glad to know I’m not alone…I think I’ll eventually make progress. Slowly but surely. I joined Mixi recently, hopefully I can make some new friends through it.
Thanks to Reno as well. Sorry if the answer to my question is obvious, but where exactly can I look if I want to join a club? Mixi? Also, where can I post my ads for free English lessons? I’m a complete newb. =/
Yo how are they treating MJ’s death up there in JPN ?
Talked about it on the news a bit. Played a bunch of his tracks on the radio all day. Didn’t see/hear much else. Though I don’t watch much TV and I only listen to the radio when I am driving.
