Meh, their shit always tastes stale.
hey guys,
quick question, what cell phone service provider are you guys with?
does japan support BBM on blackberry? just wondering cause im thinking that would be the best and cheapest way to communicate with people in North America.
im using blackberry, i wont really recommend it (for use in japan at least)… i needed a smartphone and im not a fan of touchscreen phone so i chose blackberry lol
bbm works… oh and another reason you proly shouldnt use a blackberry here is because its the most expensive out of all docomo’s smartphones…
Going to Tokyo, Japan again this year from August 11th till 24th. Gonna stay in a hotel in Akihabara, but I have no probs getting anywhere in Tokyo by rail. So I wanted to ask where the biggest arcades for SFIV and 3S are.
I only know Game Versus for 3S, but other than that I don’t really know any other big arcades. Is there a certain arcade where big SFIV players are gonna gather and play like last year at Taito Station in BIGBOX pre-SBO.
Also, where is Godsgarden being held ? I understand that the online broadcasts are done in a different place than the actual event; is the event also open for spectators or is it a disclosed event for invited people ?
I’m not sure about “biggest” arcades anymore since you can find a lot of good arcades in Tokyo. e.g. in akihabara etc… As for the gathering pre-sbo, not sure because i havent followed the arcade scene for awhile now (its all about the ssf4 nahmean)… and godsgarden is a console event. Its held at the same place as the first one, Asagaya Loft A (near asagaya station) click here for map
and this is Godsgarden 2.5 thread
the event is open for spectators but you still have to pay.
Cheers for the info on Akihabara arcades.
I’m making a small travel/video log of Street Fighter scenes around the world. I’m comparing my local Fighting game scene (Specifically Capcom and SF) scene to ones in Germany (Berlin and Hamburg), London, Amsterdam and finally Japan.
I arrive on the 28th of September and leave on the 1st of October in the evening and am really keen to get someone who lives there to have a chat on their experiences and how they meet other players and of course get some games in with some of their friends. It would be great to get the perspective of someone who has moved to japan and plays Street Fighter. Also get some insight on how community or ways people play SSF4 now that it’s moved to consoles from the arcade and how people feel about the news on arcade release. All captured on my crappy Sony Cybershot digital camera
It would be great to see the perspective from the UK NZ European as it compares to the japanese scene, since everyone especially the countries without arcades really look up to Japans Fighting game culture and it’s players. If someone had a free evening or an afternoon to show a New Zealand round and get some games in, That would be much appreciated.
so yeah apparently to people who wanted to attend godsgarden 2.5 event, unfortunately you wont be able to do so unless you already bought the pre-sale ticket. they wont be any more tickets sold on the day (pre-sale’s already sold out too iirc)…
so is that table on the GG site like pools? Like im in position E5. Does that mean I play everyone who is in the E section like one time like a round robin thing?
Also, only 2 people are listed for the ladies tournament. They arnt allowing “beginners” who are male like last time?
Yeah, the letters are groups. Though I’m not 100% we are going to only play people in our group, round robin… though thats probably it since the top 2 of each group will go to the next round iirc.
Last time there were beginners tourney AND ladies tourney and since only a few ladies signed up, they combined both. Then people gave feedback that beginners tourney aint necessary so they stop doing that for this one.
LOL first match of ladies tourney = grand finals!
Oh ok that makes sense.
Seems like theres a lot of big names missing that I would have expected to come that were at the last Gods Garden. Were there already like prelims or something to get passed the first round of pools and stuff or is what we see here everyone that will participate?
Nah, theres no special invitation and stuff this time. Though on the day entry is possible to from what ive read… I think there are enough big names participated… you probably just dont know? People like Hiropon, Tsukimiya etc… :shrugs:
Ill admit there are lots of names on that list I dont know (I am primarily a Guilty Gear player so I am not as familiar with the Japanese SF scene as I am with the GG scene) but some people like Mizoteru, Idabashi Zangief, Choco, etc were there last time. Also, why no Daigo?
Daigo is going to the UK Nationals iirc.
Yeah i think i recalled you being a pretty known GG player (at least i have that impression)
Not sure about itabashi, choco n mizoteru. But yeah, theres zangitan, mago, nemo, yuitomo, haneyama, tsukimiya, chichimondahonda, tonpi, reiketsu… and thats the only ones i know…
Thx for the info ! The only arcade that I visited in Akihabara alot is Club Sega in the main street, but it only has 4 linked SFIV machines and just 2 3S linked machines >.> Seems like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue: CS are more hyped there since there are always a lot of people playing on it (8 machines as well). Are there any more good arcades there ? I saw a Taito Station across the street but I didn’t go inside.
Too bad about the Godsgarden event I really wanted to go and spectate .
Yeah Taito Station “HEY” in akihabara is godlike too. Better than Club Sega imo.
(keep in mind i dont go to akihabara that much, ive only been there twice this year i think, one for national tourney, one for local test ssf4…)
I went to both Sega and Taito station today, and I’d probably say I enjoyed Sega more. However, I bought one of those SF4 cards and can’t make heads or tails of the thing so… that’s an issue, not to mention nobody was there playing at the time I was  Oh well, still saw some guy dressed like a bear as I walked out.
In other news, I start sweating the second I walk outside. How do you guys deal?
It’s about a month away from SBO/TGS I wanna do the Yakiniku gathering this year again if possible. Who’s up for it?
lol japan is stupid hot this year, it wasnt this hot last year…
anyway did you go to the arcades during the day? because if so then no surprise… try late evening - night… i havent keep up with the arcade scene since i changed my phone so i dont know…
Yeah, I was there in the middle of the day since that’s when I was in Akihabara. Hopefully I’ll find time to go back at night and see about getting my ass kicked. It’s a shame SSF4 isn’t in arcades yet =/
Let’s meet up tomorrow (19th) evening in Club SEGA Akihabara.
