Anyone know any good spots around Tokyo to play fighting games after 1 am? Ive had an ulcer for a long time now (since like September/October) and I usually go drinking (often heavily) every night on weekends after arcades close. Its not healing and seems to be getting only worse so I decided to try to avoid drinking as much as I can for a few months to let it heal. As a result, Im looking for a place to play fighters after the arcades close.
I could go to sleep… yea… but then Ill wake up at like 9 am before anything is open and I hate that.
I know that one place that has all night 3S but I dont really play 3S and I hear thats all they have.
So… anyone have any regular gatherings at someones place or something like that?
Anyone else play ssfiv on xbox live thurs night, have it disconnect on you mid-match, and LOSE PP in the process???
Or is Super set up so that disconnect = lose points?
EDIT: Just to clarify why I’m asking this on the Japan thread, xbox live was acting kind of funny in general last night, so I’m wondering if this a local problem.
See, you think I’m crazy, but I actually checked my score on the ranking list after that happened and my PP was like 150 pts higher there, meaning that there was definitely something fucked up going on. Oh well, must have been some kind of rare phenomenon. Nothing to worry about. Carry on.
K sluts, headed to Japan in August and I was hoping my fellow SRKers could recommend me either a nice guide for Tokyo, or just suggest some spots to visit. Never been, trying to cram everything into 15 days.
hello there good sir, would you be so kind as to send me those links as well.
i live in canada and im looking into teaching english overseas (preferably japan).
please and thank you.
Links sent, but they’re not anything special - more informative than anything. As a Canadian you can get a Working Holiday visa, which makes getting into the country to work quite a bit easier than an American can apparently.
thank you for the quick response. you are the man. if you wouldnt mind me picking your brain some more,
im very new to this and just starting my research. how do i get into JET? and how much does it cost? do i have to get my certificate through TESOL first before i can get into JET? does JET find a job and place to live for you?
im very motivated to pursue this since my life here is going nowhere and i have the support of my friends and family to pursue this crazy ambition.
Speaking of crazies going to live in Japan, I’m about to be starting a job in Yamaguchi-ken sometime in July. Any SRKers in the Guch (or have experience living there)? Hit me up.
i did some research on the JET program and i dont meet the requirements because i dont have (at least) a Bachelors Degree. what are some of my other best options? any info would be greatly appreciated.
You need a Bachelor’s for the Visa if you want to teach English. It would be extremely difficult to get the Visa sponsorship without it (if not impossible).
It can get you over there, but a lot of places won’t hire you for a teaching gig if you don’t qualify for the non-Holiday Visa. It doesn’t mean that it is impossible, but it could be tough. The biggest problem is that your Holiday Visa only lasts for awhile; you need qualifications for a long term Visa if you want to live there. A lot of the private schools have applications from people with Bachelor’s degrees and teaching certifications- those people will be competing with you for the same jobs. In fact, a LOT of jobs include it as a strict requirement in their ads. Once again, I am not telling you it is impossible, but make sure to look at the situation realistically.
Check out Dave’s ESL Cafe’s job boards to get an idea of what I mean. Also, be very wary of companies that claim to be able to get you a job without it- there are some predatory hiring practices out there. I wish you luck, but I would highly recommend either getting your Bachelor’s degree or checking to see if you qualify for one of the other types of Japanese Visas.
Maybe someone else here has some better news for you, but I don’t think it’s looking very good without the degree.
Bookie’s on the money (couldn’t resist that pun) No degree pretty much closes the door tight in the developed Asian countries, though with a TESL you may be able to pull a gig in Vietnam or another South Asian country. You could also land an ESL job in Africa or South America, but don’t bother with the Middle East, they’ll want a degree.
damn… i appreciate the honesty. isnt there some sort of loophole??
can you guys think of any possible way i can teach english in japan without have a bachelors? i aint goin back to school for 4 years.
can i just get my TESOL Certificate, move to japan and pray i find a teaching job?
Working holiday visa will fuck you over in the end, do not do it. With a WH Visa you are legally bound to only a certain amount of hours per week, and if someone finds you out… yeah, you’re even more fucked. If you can’t go back to school to get your bachelors, then you’re pretty much out of luck finding a job in Japan.
