The Official Japan Thread 2.0 "Nani?"

http://www.japanrailpass.net/eng/en003.html <-- Link for JP rail pass. remember you have to buy it BEFORE you get to Japan.

???You’re allowed 20 hours/week work on a student visa I believe. If you want to find general work, you’ll have to hit the streets and ask at local stores, or get introduced by friends. Gaijinpot and others won’t be of any help for this. If you’re willing to keep teaching English, you might want to check out local English schools (google search for “yokohama english school” came up with a few) and see if they are looking for an assistant.

For someone who doesn’t have any formal esl pedagogy, a conversation group can be a way to make some cash. Instead of 1 person paying you 3000Y for a formal lesson, 5 advanced speakers paying you 500 yen/hr for just general English chat can be profitable as well. As for topics, current events, pop culture, family stories, and social issues work well to get people talking. It’ll take some business cards, networking, and an outgoing nature to gain clients though, maybe more work than you want to do.

Thanks a lot for your input everyone

I am trying to apply to some restaurants in Roppongi and Ginza - We will see how it goes. I won’t tell them I’m leaving in 4 months… hahaha

J/K ! Is it working now?

thanks, yeah that does sound a little pricey but ill consider it. Not sure exactly what places i wanna visit yet so ill see if its worth getting that.

Imma be staying at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel. Is there something like maybe a one week or two week unlimited train pass for just tokyo? I think i might just spend most of my time in tokyo but not really sure. kinda have to work out all the plans and budget. For sure i wanna check out some arcades while im out there (3s SF4). some shopping, videogames, anime and stuff.

SSFIV open trial session (???) at Shinjuku west exit Sofmap on April 17 at 1:00 PM

OOhhh thought of this question last night on the toilet.

It’s cringeworthy to hear character’s in SF4 shout out thier move names in english.

Just wanted to know if its the same for japanese/japanese speaking folk when they hear “shoryuken”, “kikosho” etc in japanese.

ruthless_nash - The way I see it, for things originally in English (like the simpsons), it sounds natural and fine. However, dubbed anime sounds awful for the most part imo. Likewise, simpsons dubbed sounds absolutely terrible, and anime sounds natural and fine in JP. I assume its something like that.

what i meant was like for example, hearing thawk saying “condor dive”, “condor spire” etc a million times in a match is annoying as Fk in those SSF4 vids.

Just wondering if japanese people find it just as annoying as hearing characters shout out thier special moves x100 a match in japanese.

I think any sound 100 times over is annoying. Lets take Marvel for example. Storm - HUH HUH HUH HUH HUH HUH, or hearing GENE SPICE every 2 seconds from the assist. Prolly just depends on how annoying the sound is in general, i would assume, lol.

I’m selling one of my Hori SFIV sticks for PS3. It’s in great condition, virtually never used. I already have one which I use every day and love, and I’m getting a third stick so I need to unload this one. Thought I would offer it to you guys here first. Asking price 7000 yen. If anyone is interested just let me know.

oh shiz i is there son!

nope. still not… is it private or something?

I went to the one last weekend in Akihabara. It was pretty good and the line wasnt very long so I might hit this one up again too since I always stay in Shinjuku anyway. Arcades probly wont get busy till later so it will be a good place to kill time.

It shouldn’t be… Is anyone else having this problem?

Also, Damn, my anniversary is this week. No SSFIV for me… :frowning:

I’m not able to see it either when I click on it…

O.K. here is the link again.

This should work, if not… I think the best way would be just to add me on Facebook. (But the link should work fine)

It works for me. Thanks a bunch!
