The Official Japan Thread 2.0 "Nani?"

Yeah, Kunai is coming down on Saturday and leaving Monday morning I believe, so Sunday is good. HeartNana is down too. Let’s do this! We can either play on 360 or PS3, although if we choose 360 we’ll need an extra stick.

Edit: I may invite some of my coworkers to come… if they do… we need to be gentle with them lol. :stuck_out_tongue:

any reaction to the new hbo tom hanks miniseries pacific

I wonder if a-too has GOWIII? If its there I want to pick it up, but if not I don’t want to waste the trip out there.

Wherever is convenient. Just depends on where people are and their plans for the day.

We usually just play IV. There’ll be all these ideas/plans to play other stuff but then 7 hours later its like “Oh wait, time to go home.” We did get in some hardcore New Mario Bros training once though.

I’m about to hop into the JeT program over here in my university, any of you guys had any bad experiences dealing with stuff like this? I’m kinda skeptical about doing it, this being my first time and all.

A-too probably won’t have it until Thursday at the earliest, but I’m going to guess they get it on Friday or Saturday, which is a perfect way to start off the long weekend!

I did JET after college early this decade. It was a fricking sweet deal; good pay, easy work. I hear the conditions are not as good as they used to be, but I don’t know anyone currently in the program so I can’t say for sure. Anyway, depending on the region you live in I hear they can be pretty selective nowadays, so a big CONGRATULATION (KoF style) on getting accepted.

Your overall experience with JET is always going to depend on where you end up, your attitude and open-mindedness, and overall social skills.

Hopefully, you will end up in a decently populated area or at least an hour train ride to a big city to spend your time if you get sick of the countryside. I’m lucky that I live in a place where there’s a lot of decent-sized cities, friendly people and enough things to do culturally and socially.

I have seen some JETs piss and moan about Japan’s perceived flaws. The people don’t have balls to speak out, they’re like robots… the weather sucks… the food is gross… Japanese is a stupid language… my work is not very interesting and all I do is repeat English sentences in class all day… stuff like that. If you come here knowing that it will be extremely different to what you’re used to and not let these types of cultural differences get to you, you’ll have a blast. If not, you’ll be begging to go home after one year.

Finally, if you don’t get out there and mingle with other Japanese people, you won’t have fun out here. Some peeps in JET tend to stay with other foreigners a bit too much and don’t get the full experience of living here. Others just don’t do it because they can’t learn the language or they are not socially active, so they stay in their apartment and waste their lives away (especially in the cold winters).

If you’re already skeptical, you might not like it in Japan. Just telling it like it is.

I’m also a current JET and everything Kunai said holds weight. The more people you meet, the more you explore the better things are.

That being said I started by first year by playing SFIV at the arcade everyday as both something to do and a way to cope with the move, but then I made some awesome SF friends and everything got way sweeter.

But yeah, easy work, great pay, overall very nice.

So, I’ll be in Osaka this weekend for sumo. I’d be very interested in playing with you guys. I used to take IV very seriously, but I’ve fallen off some since last summer.

So whats going on in the J lately?
Calibur and Forgenjuro I need you guys to contact me ASAP. It’s on for saturday at the Queen of Hate’s place! I don’t know if John is invited but you guys made the cut.

So it looks like this is the thread I was looking for.

I’m going to be visiting Japan during the first week of April (2nd) for about two or three weeks. I’m an average SF4 player, occasionally stealing wins from top players down here in SoCal…so I’m really looking to step up my game when I get there. I’m going to be staying at the Ikebukuro district and definitely plan on hitting up Big Box for some real comp.

However, since this is my first time visiting I really want to make the most of my trip so, I have other interests in mind. The essential list goes:

Alcohol
SF4/MvC2/3s
Food

In no particular order, but preferably in close company with each other. In short, I’m basically looking for some cool peeps to get some drinks play some games, and get some good eats with. A buddy of mine (Shogo from Denjin-Arcade here in SoCal) used to tell me about how good the ramen was in Japan…so if anyone on here could point me in the right direction when I get there, that would be awesome.

bigbox is not the spot anymore, its another place in shinjuku (forgot the name) — they change places from time to time, bigbox was only during the sbo period last august till a few months later…

One of these?

Nice seeing everyone again, and nice to meet Fireball Champ.

Def down for hanging out again after super comes out.

If we ever go to a-cho for whatever reason, WE ARE GOING TO FRIDAYS.

GGs to everyone last weekend, fun as always.

^You didn’t know? I posted about that on the last page. I’ve already hit it up once. Jack Daniels Burger > My life.

Mmmmm, just thinking about TGI Fridays makes my mouth water. Friday’s being close to a-cho is godly.

I had a great time on Sunday! Everyone was super cool and it’s nice to meet the faces behind the names. After playing and talking with you guys, I’d say I’m five times more excited for Super. Oh and of course DOA 5. :bgrin:

damn looks like I gotta hit up that TGIFridays when I come visit Kyoto next week!

Where are the best places to have monja?
I went to a part of Tokyo that was known for their monjas but completely forgot the name of the place.
