Any Kansai’ers up for a gaming session in the near future? I can host if no one else wants to/y’all don’t mind the trek to Kyoto.
Honestly? Not very good. The problem is that you are a Gaijin In Disguise - not really Japanese, but in their eyes not really foreign either. So regular girls will just think “I’ll go for a regular Japanese guy” and the Gaijin chasers will think “I want a REAL Gaijin” which leaves you in a sort of funky limbo.
That having been said, you can still do well if your game is on point.
As for Japanese, I studied for 4/5 years in university, came here, realized that it was really only good for the fundamentals, and kinda started over. Here I’ve just been studying on my own. But you are surrounded by the language, so you can pick it up if you make the effort to do so.
I recall Kunai saying he wanted to come down here on the weekend of March 20th, so perhaps we can do something on that weekend? We got a three day weekend because of the spring equinox so it might work out well. I can host, plus I can bust out the Super SF4 sticks!
I was thinking about that weekend as well. I should be good, I don’t think I have to work. Yeah, put the spoils of your victory to good use!
Also, I can bring GOW3 (if I can snag it from a-too quick enough!) and we can see how many new ways Kunai invents to die.
Well, I’m gonna be getting God of War 3 too so no worries about that. We’ll make Kunai die plenty in that game too lol
Ive already got people coming to ono for the 3 day weekend, but maybe the weekend after would be good for me. >_>
Hey, if you are going to be gaming and boozing it up with people who know how to play Tekken, I am down to go.
Yo you guys can always chill at my pad on the Sat or something and then go back to Ono for two days
You are ninja gaijin… like ME!
HAHAHAHAHA
I dont get special gaijin treatment too because they either think im japanese or chinese(well to be fair i do have some chinese blood in me)… boo.
Yo where has Mikado moved to? Where is the nearest station?
Thanks
Takadanobaba Station. Take the Waseda exit, go to the left. When you pass the pachinko place, take another left. Walk up the back street, and you’ll see it next to the Lawson.
I hate this weather!

Hey guys, I’ve got an interview with Interac for a 7 month contract in Japan. Interview is next week. I’ve heard lost of not-too-good things about Interac, but the bottom line is that they’ll get me a job in Japan, and once I’ve found my feet and settled in I can look elsewhere. I’ve done my research and looked at plenty of other forums, but advice from SRK Japan peeps is more trustworth for me than any random ALT forums, ESL etc.
So, two questions- is the pay of 230,000Y to 250,000Y a month OK or will I be struggling to do anything other than eat and shelter myself? Second, has anyone had any experience with Interac, and do they know how easy it is to jump ship and work elsewhere if things dont go well. Thanks!
Ah, I’d forgotten how slam-your-head-against-a-brick-wall fun it is to argue with a Japanese person about parts of their society that don’t make sense. Whee.
For the Kansai Smackdown, the 3-day weekend of the 20th is pretty much the only weekend I could possibly do it. Gotta work the 13th and the 27th, and if I can pull a miracle off I hope to go to Nationals the first weekend of April.
Most of what Akuma says isn’t really everyday Japanese. Its sort of like an old warrior dialect.
The pay kinda depends on a number of things, including how much you’ll have to pay for rent, and where exactly you’ll be living. In general though, 23~25 is more than enough as long as you aren’t blowing your money foolishly.
I worked a three month stint with Interac. The thing is that your main workplace will be whatever school they send you to, and its difficult to know what the conditions there will be like until you actually go. Interac themselves…yeah, I wasn’t a huge fan, and since my school was terrible as well it wasn’t too good. But like you said, just get set up in Japan first and then look for something better from there. They don’t like you breaking contract of course, but foreign English teachers breaking contract has almost become like a norm so they’re sort of prepared for it. Just have a really good reason why - something that lets both you and them save face.
Well, first off, you may not actually be making 230/250 a month. That is your set wage, but it actually varies by the amount of days you work in a month, which Interac and the school decide.
I worked for Interac for about 8 months, and there were months where I only made like 150k due to a ton of holidays or just being shorted on shifts.
Definitely be aware of that.
I also think Interac basically is on the bottom of the English teaching scale, but one good thing about them is that you are actually being dispatched to schools instead of being holed up in a nightmare eikaiwa. Getting out in society helps your Japanese, and you’ll probably have a lot of time to study and/or masturbate in a hidden crawlspace under the girls’ shower.
You guys ever been to Taiwan or S.Korea? How does Japan compare to them in terms of lifestyle, food, $$$, girls, scenery/nature, job stability (teaching english), etc…
Any cool stories?
