Good luck Dre! I was going to take it this year but I missed the deadline by a few days. Guess I’ll try in the summer.
Good luck to all you guys taking the JLPT. I’m gonna have to skip it this year because moving to my new dorm’s sapped all the money and time away from me.
Theyre making the new changes on next, supposed to be harder, even tho they originally scheduled the change for this one.
Do it
DO IIIIIIIIIIIIIT
Reno and I are doing it, so you should take this test in the summer too.
Let’s be study buddies :hitit:
… the books, of course
Hey guys. So I took the test, and the studying that once consumed my time is gone. What`s SRKs reccommendation on what to do with all that time??? all suggestions welcomed, especially funny ones.
Join a popular boy band, then get drunk, go to a park, strip naked, start singing songs in Korean while shouting profanity, get arrested, take a sabbatical for a month and make a comeback to a crowd of screaming girls.
^Okay, so Japanese TV sucks but I saw something last week that floored me.
It was some music show where they brought out all the power performers and had them perform in front of a dinner audience. Whatever. Before it was SMAP’s turn to go, the 5 of them were up on stage and some female announcer was interviewing them. She was talking to one of them and asking about how the past year was. Then, without even thinking about it, she turns to Kusanagi and says “And how was your year?”
IMMEDIATELY, I think she realizes she’s asked the ONE person on that stage the question she shouldn’t have. But its too late, the words have already come out of her mouth. Kusanagi is just like “Well, a lot happened this year, and I have to thank my group members for helping me out.” Meanwhile, the other members of SMAP are trying, and failing miserably - to contain laughter. One dude was rolling his eyes up into the air and another had the puff cheeks - Shingo, who was standing next to Kusanagi and I’m sure can appreciate a good comedic moment, just put his arm around him and smiled knowingly. It was hilarious.
^^ But how does that help me deal with the time on my hands???
fighting games
beer
women
take your pick, or any combination of the 3! Thats what takes up my free time
This is fantastic.
Dre: Go out, hit some clubs and party. Or play some games and stuff. Or go out to an izakaya and get wasted with friends.
I don’t even know what to say to that question. How can you not know what to do with your free time?
I had really just devoted so much time to Japanese study that in the process I lost my hobbies etc. I might get back into guitar Im thinking.
Anybody know of a way to get cheap flights to Japan? It seems like it cost $1200+ no matter when or where you want to fly. If however you want to go to Europe, all you have to do is fucking book a round trip flight with Lufthansa for $800 or less. What kind of bullshit is that? I guess the Japanese want to keep out as many gaijin as possible. I know you can save a few buck by flying with ANA, but it’s still pretty high.
Being military, I know I could hop for $24, but that shit is to risky sometimes. I’ve only done it once and it did work out for me, but sometimes I don’t think taking the chance is worth it.
Making new friends can be a magical experience.
:bottle:
Saw an ad in the English version of a famous Japanese newspaper… sorry but I don’t have the name off the top of my head. They were advertising flights to America for 800 bones or so. I’m sure they’re not the most accommodating, though.
Yeah, but 1200 dolla flights are the norm, you are correct sir.
What’s going on in here fellas?! Sorry, I been trying to work out this whole new foreign dad thing! I’m not going back to the States for X-mas, so what what’s the deal?!
Also, to whoever is looking for a cheap flight. “Buddy Passes” Find you someone who works in the flight industry and see if they will sell you a BP ticket. I usually, get roundtrip tickets from ATL - TKY for about $500-650 Business Class. It may not be full proof plan but if you get one. I bet you’ll be happy as shit!
this season is always gonna be expensive man.
plus the dollar is absolute crap… it’s kind of sad that only 5~6 or so years ago, i was in japan with a 123yen/$1 exchange rate
what is it now… 87? sweet…
Yeah, I remember those days. Its funny cause for me, during that time, all my money was in dollars, so i still had the upper hand whenever i withdrew from an ATM. Now that I get paid in yen and the yen is really strong, things really go my way, especially when I make the trip back home, things are gonna seem extra cheap.
what’s the risk…and more importantly, is it really so bad that iit’s not worth saving $1100?
The plane that you need may not come to the airport your waiting at for a number of reason. Now you have to get a hotel for who knows how many nights.
You can get bumped off the plane by someone who needs to travel for official duty or someone who is on emergency leave regardless of the first come first serve rule.
Once again, your sitting at an airport wasting money.
The plane needs maintenance which could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days.
The plane getting diverted in mid fucking air and you ending up having to get a last minute ticked from who the fuck knows where.
These flights only leave out of specific places. Now, lets say I want to go to japan right. Which I do. I fly from the east coast on a commercial plane to L.A. to catch a hop. I’ve done all of my research, I know the schedule of the plane, my name is on the seat listing and I even arrive a day early to make sure I don’t miss my hop. I get to L.A. and I have no friends or family and one of the things I mentioned above happens. Or worse, you do get on the plane and it turns and goes somewhere else putting you in an even worse situation.
Say your trying to get home from a foreign country and one of those things happen. Your fucked again. The thing about taking hops, is that you want to do it when the military isn’t moving a whole lot of people around. This however is a problem is because it’s usually during vacation time. What’s worse is that being military, we have leave time which is time off. The last thing you want to do is waste your time off sitting at an airport for a few days trying to catch a hop. If your not back to your duty station or place of work when your leave runs out, you get into trouble and your boss might not have any sympathy for you because “YOU” didn’t plan accordingly for all the bad shit that could happen while trying to hop.
It usually works well if your hoping around the pacific or Europe, but not so much for large international flights. I’ve only ever hopped once and it was from Korea to Japan. It went smooth both ways. Even if it hadn’t, I could get a one way ticket for like $200 same day. Trying to get a last minute international flight would cost you an arm, leg a knee and a couple of elbows. So that’s why hops can be risky. Hops sure sound good on paper, but when you research it, you see it has the potential to become a nightmare.
