The Official Japan Thread 2.0 "Nani?"

i’d imagine assuming you understand j-girls bcuz you took an asian history class would be a big “don’t”

LOL wtf

I plan on reading this whole thread over the next few days and some of the blogs posted on here, but I was wondering you guys could give me some advice.

I’m planning on going to Japan in early 2010 and I was wondering when the right would be to go. Should I go in February or wait till March/April? When is the weather good over there? (I know, wikipedia it, but still).

Also I plan on staying in Tokyo for a week and another area for the next week. I think Kyoto/Osaka, but do you guy have any other suggestions. I am from Los Angeles, so I kind of want to avoid to urban sprawl on the next week.

Any tips, info, or advice would be greatly appreciated and hopefully I might run into some y’all when I head out there.

Thanks.

The other day after finishing at the gym in Shibuya I headed to a bar that I have been to once or twice just to relax. When I got to the door this guy asked me for my ID. That had never happen before but I showed it to him and he said I can’t get go in.

I asked if it was a private party and he just said “you can’t go in.”

I asked if there was something wrong with my gaijin card. Same answer.

A couple of white dudes walked out seconds later and I asked them if they showed there ids to go in and they said no. I asked if it was a private party, and the guys said no.

Apparently I just couldn’t go in. That simple. I asked myself if I had pissed anyone off in that bar. Nope. Have my friends pissed anyone off there? Nope, no one who could have has even been there. Was I dressed wrong? Nope.

They just didn’t want me in there.

So I rode the train home and played Monster Hunter.

I really really hate this place sometimes.

Calibur: Man, that sounds retarded. You just got denied for no reason, even though you’ve been there before without any incident? Did you see that guy at the door before? If you go there next time and a different worker is there, you should ask him why you were denied entry that night.

LuLu SmacKs: It should still be cold during the early springtime, so I recommend bringing a light jacket or something. As for when you wanna come…hm, well if you wanna try socializing, March is usually when the students all get their breaks before starting the new school year.

I dunno much(…anything) about the Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto area though, I’ve only been in Fukuoka since coming here…but I’m sure everyone else can help you out.

Hmm i think its best to come when sakura is blooming/almost blooming? Somewhere around March-April, lol try google that since im not sure of the date… As for weather, its gonna be cold (but then i came from a tropical country so my definition of cold might be different than yours)…

As for staying in tokyo/kyoto/osaka, i guess thats proly the easiest and the typical tourist plan. I’ve been to Kyoto and its kinda dope if you’re into going to many tourist attractions/temples and stuff… I’ve only been to Osaka for USJ with my family but then there are srk ppl in osaka, they might help you better.

how is fukuoka anyway? i’m thinking of canceling my trip to the philippines and just taking the ferry from busan to fukuoka and chillin for a couple of days.

I have had incidents like that in Korea. Couldn’t get into a club, but my friends could and they were both foreigners too! (I’m black)

it didn’t have to do with you being military?

Calibur that sucks bro, next time take him down and GnP ftw. lol

It’s pretty relaxed here, since it’s not really as bustling as Tokyo or Osaka or other big cities. A lot of people have made comparisons to it and Busan(can’t say for sure since I’ve never been there), but there are plenty of fun spots to make a trip to Fukuoka worthwhile, and they’re all a few subway stops away from one another which is convenient.

Nope. I’m not military. I had never seen that dude before. Ah well. I would loooooooooooooooooooove to run into that guy in a tournament someday. I would love it.

nah I think he’s talking about me.

Thurst… lol I think it was because he had a gut feeling that I was military

It’s still bullshit though because I showed him my passport and everything just like Tao and his friend.

For people in Tokyo, I’m wondering if anyone is up for Yakiniku next Fry.
I’m thinking Amataro@Shibuya.

If anyone is up for it, let me know by Monday

dayummmmm im mad broke for yakiniku at the moment… fuck haha.

yakiniku is da shitt fo real

Thanks for the info guys. Is there an area of Tokyo I should stay in? I was thinking of staying at the one next to Shinjuku Station or the Grand Prince.

@hfz69 What would be a place that is not as touristy or well know? I plan do all that the first week, then go somewhere a little more remote the second week. I remember Arturo telling me about a place he stayed at, but I forgot what it was called.

Thanks again.

I dont live in Tokyo to know well enough about the places… (i live an hour from shinjuku)…

I dont know much about where to stay, because I was never here as a short duration tourist… I guess it depends on your budget too…

As for the not so touristy thingy, thats too general of a question since everything else thats not famous can be that… Also depends on what are you interested in(shopping? food? views? nature? clubbing? etc). Maybe you should ask Art about the place he used to stay at. Sorry couldnt help much.

Anyway yeah, do come while the sakura is blooming, it can be really nice if you’re into that kinda thing.

…and i’ll let other srkers who are living in tokyo to be more helpful lol i can only try to help what i can, not much though since school’s getting hella busy now :frowning:

good luck man and have fun

I appreciate the help man. I’ll be getting my wikipedia on about the sakura blooming. Mainly I like food.

good luck to everybody(if anybody) who`s taking the Japanese Language Proficiency exam this weekend! Gambatte! (I might be the only one in SRK taking it tho )
Im taking level one people!

which level are you taking? i passed level 3, then nearly passed level 2 and decided to try level 1 and failed that one miserably hahaha.

good luck~
