Can anyone explain to me, why marijuana laws are so severe in Japan (and Korea)?
because drugs are bad, mmkay

One of the reasons is that Japanese view people who take drugs as lacking self-control and there is a strong public support of the status quo, public safety, etc. Hugely successful public education campaigns have helped to suppress the idea that drug abuse is caused by social conditions. Many Japanese believe that people who take drugs are evil. Basically, the general opinion is that people who are “foolish enough” to try marijuana “all too often end up physically and mentally ruined, perhaps leading lives of crime.” The majority of Japanese believe there is no ‘innocent’ or ‘harmless’ way to take illegal drugs (except for maybe magic mushrooms…)
It’s not illegal to own marijuana seeds (for splicing, hemp, etc.) and cannabis grows wild in Hokkaido (which gets cut down periodically so it cannot be used). Some people simply import marijuana seeds from the Netherlands. It’s just when people grow the plant and smoke the plant, it becomes illegal. (Although you could probably fuck the plant and start a new trend…)
In regards to magic mushrooms - It’s illegal to eat or sell them if you know they have hallucinogenic properties but it is not illegal if you claim you don’t know. Basically, if the police can prove you took the mushrooms to get high they can arrest you. If you say you ate them because you are hungry there is nothing they can do (but you need a really good poker face).

Anyone from JET please tell me that the above bold text isn’t accurate. The Reference letters must be in a sealed and signed envelope from the person writing the letters for me?? If this is true, im fucked… My referance letters were sent to me from out of state sealed in with a birthday card… so ya, i already opened them… Do i have to get more letters now??
