The Official Fullmetal Alchemist Thread

I think i remember reading Arakawa didn;t want the Anime to have the same ending or something as the Manga. Could be hearsay though.

Saw Episode 5. Was awesome. Scar is awesome, Roy is useless without Riza and the Animation of this series is just fantastic.

I had heard about that but it’s just now hitting me how many liberties that they took a bit in the original anime in comparison to the manga…from beginning to end of the first series.

Finished watching the 5th ep. Scar is easily one of my favorite antagonists in this series. He’s a fuckin beast. Armstrong’s ridiculousness is always entertaining. The animation is so much better and fluid now.

It must be me, but i think the animation in this series is worse than the original. I stopped watching after ep 3 after realising it was a remake, not a continuation.

It’s going to end up being both really…considering the first series branched off. They’re retreading stuff and making it closer to the actual material and things will probably start becoming less and less familiar 20 eps from now.

Idiot post, sounds you haven’t read the manga. I’ve seen the original series and the remakes looks way better than the original to be honest. You’ll see once we get past everything that isn’t familiar.

I’ve read the manga, thank you very much. When a TV series spends at least the first four episodes covering a previous season, it absolutely screams “REMAKE” - so to me, a viewer who was expecting new content is more than entitled to stop watching. Four episodes (i.e. one volume of a DVD) is far too long to introduce viewers to a new storyline. I will say that I quite enjoyed what I saw, but it wasn’t enough to keep me around. Now that I’ve been informed it’s not a remake, I’m inclined to continue again - but this should have been made obvious from the beginning. I had no idea what this series was going to entail when I started watching - I had no idea it existed until a few days ago.

Couple other things:

  • I don’t really give a fuck if someone think the new series looks better. It’s entirely subjective, and neither of us is right. I think, so far, it doesn’t. The OP is definitely well done, and don’t get me wrong, this is a very polished looking show, but it feels rather blocky at times, for lack of a better word.
  • I don’t give a shit about how far this, or the first series deviates or treads closely to the manga. It’s an adaptation, not a translation - I judge both these series solely as television series, hence my withdrawal after episode 3.

No one gives a fuck if you think the old series looks better either.

No one gives a shit about your made up definition of what a remake is. By the definition used by the rest of the world this isn’t a remake.

The animation was great at times in the ep 5. Very fluid. I am also falling in love with the music.

Hughes calling everyone freaks was just as funny as before, perhaps even moreso.

And the Mustang kick was great.

Nah, she just gave BONES her blessing for them to go on their own tangent when it comes to the plot.

Yeah, the differences are quite apparent when you get the point of after what happens to Hughes.

As for episode 5

ep 5

Spoiler

Well, I remember reading that part in the manga (and obviously seeing it in the 1st series) and they’ve covered it right down to the even funny parts (Riza stopping Mustang from using his flames because it’s raining and Hughes mentioning being on the sidelines). Not much to say except that it was a standard good episode. The animation sequences were pretty good and it was nice of them to give us an early glimpse of how the Ishvalian War took down.

New voices are getting better the more I hear of them. Riza’s new VA’s doing a splendid job.

Ahhhh that was it.

Not much to say about ep.6, except the humor being a lot more apparent from the last time around when it comes to this part. I liked the scene where Ed pestered Winry to see if she’s done with his arm automail. Armstrong wasn’t slacking in showing off his physique and manly tears, either.

I agree this episode was good. I wish they had left in the conversation between Ed and Roy about why Ed has to take Armstrong with him but even still the rest of the episode was great. It balanced it’s different moods very well and was a nice watch. Armstrong is too awesome. He chops wood with his fists!

where you guys getting your stuff?

Eclipse is subbing it. Try google and that sub group. should be easy enough to find.

Mostly checking up on TokyoTosho via a search for Eclipse’s or Shinsen’s subs. If you want the option of streaming, anilinkz.com and watch-anime.org are your best bets.

Manga Chapter 95 is up on OM.
