The Official Custom Arcade Sticks Thread II: A New Era of Builders

Definitely MDF. Good and strong and easy to cut. Even stronger though, is Oak plywood. This I’d use for anything bigger than a 1 player stick. Just preference though.

pxldtz:
I don’t have a modded xbox so it’s not an issue for me as much.

mdf/particle board

I have no use for the select at all which is why I leave it out, though I might include them for my next 2 player setup to use as coin input when connected to pc for emulated games.

who makes the best sticks here?
i’d like to contact him in regards to buying one

There are a few great builders here that SELL sticks. Byrdo(currently not taking orders), Dreadedfists, Finkle, and more. High quality work. Depends on what you want, they each have their own style. I stopped selling back in '04, but I still build for myself, and as a hobby every now and then. Mainly here in support of getting people started.

imaginevc.

depends on the style of the builder. all the boxes i’ve seen from the above mentioned builders all use the best sticks and buttons. so it’s all in preference. each has his own building method.
some boxes are made large, some as small as possible and unique. if you have the $$ try getting one from each builder. (my box is a mere 8x10") but i don’t sell. i’ll leave that to the pros.

Question about Street Fighter Anniversery Arcade Stick: Does it have a +5 volt hookup? My friend gave me 50 bucks of gamestop credit and I was thinking about putting some parts I have laying around into it and making an honest stick out of it.

That is all I want to know. Thanks in advance.

ok can someone tell me whats the diameter of competition buttons, what size drill should i use and what size should the holes be. also how big should i drill the hole for a sanwa stick?

please help me

1 1/8 for buttons/joystick

Smaller for a sanwa stick I think. I heard the usual is 7/8" hole for the joystick.

Nitewalker is correct. Most people say 7/8" but 24mm is just as good and since that’s the same size as the small Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons.

quick question…I tore a copper track off a PCB where the solder attaches to the switch(it’s the old Hori stick that namco put out during Tekken 2) How would I replace it and what’s the best way to do it???

You just need to connect anything that will conduct electricity. You can try to tap further up the copper trace, “draw” a new trace with a conductive pen from Radio Shack, or anything else you can think of.

Make sure you don’t bypass any electronics though.

I added a link to my templates. Japanese/Capcom button layout that you can use over your artwork. A Read Me First file is included so please be sure to read it. READ!!

Good stuff roten. I gotta put my template collection up soon too…

Yes, please do so I can add it to the links. Anyone else that have templates are welcomed as well, but make sure it isn’t a file that is going to cease anytime soon. I hate clicking on a site/link and they no longer exist.

Update! My cab is finished, You can use magnet wire for the PCB easy hack guide if you dont have access to the wire he has in the guide. Now all I gotta do is get used to playing on sticks.

Hey! Hows about some pics???

Glad to hear you’re finished.

I was over at CD_Vision’s Arcade Controls page…
I’m trying to find a marble layout/back round that I could use as my joysticks art, and then cover it with plexi glass.

Any body know where I can find such a thing?

Looks like CD_Vision has what I?m looking for but I cant find anything to download on his site.

Thanks in advance.

Lol, Dunno, Gotta get someone with a digital cam, If I would say so myself, Its the worst looking cab I have seen.
