The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

Anyone try the ChimpSMD with a brooks converter? If so which one did you try: 360-ps4 or ps3-ps4?

OMGItzAndre said the chimp doesn’t work. Anything special you had to do?

I have an original 360-TE modded with an MC Cthulhu and it works for about 4-5 minutes with a PS3->PS4 Brook, then inputs start to lag/drop and then another minute or so after that, my PS4 says the controller has been disconnected. I’ve also used the stick in SF5 legacy mode and it works fine, but won’t work consistently with the Brook.

I have tried the same Brook with a PS360+ board in a different stick and it works fine.

Both my Brook and MC Cthulhu are updated to the current firmware (or at least for the Cthulhu, what is linked in the first post of this thread)

I’m going to reach out to the Brook creator on twitter to see if he has any ideas from his side.

Edit: Looks like another firmware for the Brook was released on 2/6/15, so I’m one version behind. I’ll update my Brook and try again to see if it makes a difference.

Nothing special. Just plugged them in. Most of my personal sticks have chimps and all are working fine with no issues. Tried as stand alone and dual mod.

Yep my Chimp dual mod works fine. I’ll have to check my chimp smd but that should work also.

quick question how do i go to into and exit virtua stick mode? Looked in the pdf on toodles site and didnt find the answer. Also if there a pdf or something i can read up on other options it can do besides this thread. dont have time to read all the posts.
thanks

On another note i thought the start on my cthulhu board was dead, it was driving me crazy and it ended up being the button i was using for start. I use .187 qd’s on my sticks and i tighten them with pliers so they dont slip off. Well apparently i made it to snug so it scraped the top layer of metal off the posts of the button and there was some minor corrosion keeping the signal/ground from being registered. I was so mad last night trying to figure this out. It was one of those “OMFG” moments when i figured it out. lol

Are you forcing virtua stick mode every time you plug in

well i had a ps3 only cthulhu laying around and i wanted to throw it in one of my spare sticks since it will work on ps4 with sfv. When i first plugged it into a pc to make sure it worked it registered as ps3/cthulhu. After i wired it up and plugged it back into the same pc its registering as virtua stick. dont know if I was holding something when i plugged it in.

I forget the combo but it’s definitely holding something on plug in
Maybe you crossed grounds with some inputs?

when in controller properties it doesnt show any of the buttons being pressed, stuck or randomly being activated. I was doing this while sitting infront of the computer on the floor. I may have had my hand on the stick or more likely i had the control panel seperate from the case leaning on the bed. Either way i just want to figure how to get out of it. As of now it reads all the inputs perfectly. havent tried it on ps3 yet. Will it automaticaly be in standard mode when going to ps3 from pc or will it still be in virtua stick mode?

It only stays in that mode as long as you have the buttons held down. So, unplug and replug without holding anything.

ok, ill try restarting the computer to before plugging it in also. thanks

Sadly, after updating my brook firmware, the MC Cthulhu no longer works with it at all. My PS360 stick still seems to work fine. Will update if I can get a reply from the Brook creator.

how would updating one thing break another? they don’t share data lines.

I bought a MC Cthulu about 2-3 years now. Tested it, and was working fine. Decided to use it now with my PS3 MCZ TE2. Wired the usb cable that comes with the stick in one of the grids in the PCB. Everything was working fine, then stopped to being recognised by the PC, doesn’t show there nor the PS3. Plugged the usb cable to the plug that comes with the cthulu and doesn’t get recognised either.

Possibles causes:
I left the PCB connected to my PC while I was turning it on and off and putting it in sleep. Maybe that caused the problem.

Any idea of what could it be or what tests should I make to the pcb to detect the problem?; I just bought a multimeter to run tests. But everything seems working fine.

I have a Hitbox with chimpSMD. On SFV legacy settings it works fine but after 5 min its loses its connection and I have to turn legacy settings back on. Never had any problems in MKX. Any fixes or will getting a Brooks PS3>PS4 or 360>PS4 converter work?

Sounds like your USB or chimp is faulty

is yours custom or did it come with chimp somehow?

Had it modded with a chimp from stock Hitbox back in 2012. Used it to play Virtua Fighter on PS3 and 360 almost everyday for the past 4 years with no issues (it autodetects everytime). Also used it to play MKX on PC and PS4 (says Virtua Stick when I plug it in) with no issues.

On SFV like clockwork after about 5 minutes of playing or like 2-3 matches it stops working. I then have to go back into the controller settings and select Legacy and it works again for a couple more matches before it stops again. I did this like 3 times last night before I gave up.

Has anyone ordered from Godlike Controls recently? I ordered about a week ago and haven’t heard anything. Kind of worried cause Toodles doesn’t seem that active anymore.

I ordered a multi console cthulhu a little over a week ago, and haven’t heard anything. I also sent Marcus an email two days ago, and haven’t heard anything.
