The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

So I’ve noticed an interesting issue with using PS1 on my Cthulhu. The stick/PCB itself works just fine, absolutely no issues there. However, when I do plug in the stick, my memory cards become entirely unusable (can’t read or write to them). Works fine again upon unplugging the stick. Have updated firmware and checked and can’t find any obvious wiring issues, so I’m kinda mystified as to what’s going on here…using it on an original PS1 system btw.

What about the memory cards? Are they Sony or some 3rd party?

One is third party, another is Sony, does the same thing regardless. like I said, its bizarre in that I can use the stick perfectly fine, I just can’t load/save at all while it’s plugged in to the system x_x

I don’t have an actual PS1 to test this out (I can’t replicate the issue on a PS2).

I have a buddy that wants me to install a mc Cthulu in his ps3 TE. I recommended a pcb swap, but he still wants the ps3 pcb functional for ps3 and just wants to use the mc Cthulu for legacy support. Would I follow the same instructions I used for dual modding or do I have to do something different due to having two pcb’s for the same console?

The MC Cthulhu already has PS3 support.
You don’t need the original Mad Catz PCB any more.

For instillation just follow the sheet that comes with the board, all the terminals are labeled.

I mentioned already that I recommended just swapping the original pcb for the Cthulu. He want the original pcb to remain. That’s my whole reason for posting.

You will still have to follow the “dual mod” procedure where every button is connected as well as power and ground
Just skip the part where you use an imp or whatever for USB and just make a neutrik port for the RJ45 cables

Hey guys, I was wondering about the MC Cthulhu. Specially, is there anyway to wire a joystick in a way that allows me to use the Cthulhu enabled joystick on all systems through one RJ-45 port? Or would that require three separate ports? This is my first joystick build, so all of this information is kind of dizzying :s Sorry if this is an especially “nooby” question, thanks in advance.

Multi-Console Cthulhu and Imp v2.
Use RJ45 for modular cables of all supported systems.

Ah, okay. Thank you, I’ll see if I can figure it out.
EDIT:I understand now, I face palmed pretty hard when I finally got it. Thank you.

I’m using a US NTSC Playstation SCPH-7501 and have no issues with Sony memory cards or third party memory cards, while having 1 or 2 MC Cthulhu’s plugged in. I can copy and delete from each memory card from within the manager menu (start up system with no game inserted) and games create and save just fine to each card regardless of which port they are in.

hello,
I’m french and I need your advice. I would like a mod joystick to make it universal. I would like to use the cthulu + impV2+PS360 + + Akishop HSB External Headset jack PCB + CROSSBONE NEXT GEN CONSOLE PAD ADAPTER PCB + Gamepad Xbox One Bare PCB is this possible? with impV2, I have 1 or 2 usb cable to the output? I then add a ps4 pcb? thank you very much and congratulations for the great job you’re doing.

If I pad hack a wireless Genesis controller and run it to the cthulhu, would it be possible to keep the wireless function? Or should I do a regular so I have a cable? Also, could someone tell me the dimensions of the cthulhu PCB? Can’t find them anywhere

It does not matter if the controller wireless or not, but if the controller is common ground.
Your better off with a wired controller.

Bump for a question - has anyone tried using a Imp with a 360 pcb and, say, a DualShock 4?

Spoiler

Yeah, it’s pretty obvious SFV inspired this question. I’m getting it on PC, but I expect tourneys to use PS4. Might as well cover my bases.

Hi all. New to the forums so please forgive me if this has come up before (I did search).
I’ve got two MC Cthulhus serving P1 and P2 on my arcade cab control panel. When I power the cab up (it’s a Win 8 PC inside), it seems to be random chance as to which board is P1 and which is P2.
I guess since they have the same Controller ID, that’s gonna happen, but surely there’s something I can do? I can’t be the only person with a 2 player panel

Easiest solution would be to leave p2 unplugged while booting it up.
