The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

I usually need it dumbed down for me the first time around. Now I know for my next stick.

yeah, duh. don’t mind me, i’m halfway around the world and lacking in sleep.

Hey Toodles, do you know if you’ll be adding any other consoles for use with the Cthulhu MC? Thanks.

hi , i have been folowing alot fo threads on custom pad making and have come to the conclusion that your device is one of the eaiset ways to get a pad up and running, i have a few questions.

  1. do you ship to the UK?

  2. would the Cthulhu PC/PS3 Board Unassembled Kit be a cheaper alternative to a soldering noob or is it best to stick with the assembled package?

  3. also do you use 16a (5mm)pcb mounting terminals as on the site it is not clear?

  4. i have seen some great pads with led lighting how would i incoroporate this onto your board? are you devoloping a add-on? i followed this thread(Light-up on activation button mod tutorial )

if someone has previuosly posted these questions im sorry for not reading through the entire thread.

thank you

Yes, other will be added as possible. NES and SNES are next in line. Saturn support is iffy; there is chance I won’t be able to do it, but I wont know until I try. If there’s any in particular you’re hoping for, post it up and I’ll let you know if it’s doable or not.

XBOX360 IS NOT POSSIBLE AND NOT GONNA HAPPEN.
Gotta get that out there before folks get their hopes up.

  1. LizardLick does do international shipping.
  2. That’s your call, I can’t make it for you. If you’ve done any kind of soldering before and have access to the tools, the soldering is about as easy as could possibly be, and I’d like to think the instructions in the Instructable are thorough. If you’re going to order the USB jack and the screw terminals from LizardLick, then you’re looking at $9 more for the assembled, and the peace of mind getting one already assembled and tested may be worth it, but that’d be your decision. Look over the Instructable and decide if the time and hassle is worth more or less than the $9 you’d save.
  3. The screw terminals are 5mm pitch. The bare $20 kits do not include them or the USB jack, but both can be ordered as well from Lizard Lick. The $40 assembled board includes the screw terminals and USB jack and are already installed on the board.

And to catch the new edit:

4a) You’d incorporate it just like any other pad listed in that thread. You can use the simpler design that doesn’t use batteries since USB is 5 volts.
4b) Kinda. I could make a light up board similar to the one Kaytrim has been making by hand, but he’s supposed to be working on getting some made anyways for a number of months now, and don’t want to step on his toes or cause any bad feelings. Kinda sucks because that’d be like an hour tops to do. :frowning: But, I am working on something that can be used for that purpose, and then some, but it’s not ready yet. (Imagine if instead of just off and on, if the light came on when pressed, and then slowly faded out when released, or using RGB leds so the colors displayed changed based on the button combination and then slowly faded out, or…yeah, lots of possibilities. More on this later.)

thanks for the quick response but as you were typing i edit my initial message regarding led’s.

  1. i have seen some great pads with led lighting how would i incoroporate this onto your board? are you devoloping a add-on? i followed this thread(Light-up on activation button mod tutorial )

already done.

toodles thanks again for the even quicker response, it would be real neat if you do develope a add-on to your current board for led’s as i am from abroad, and would prefer and save money buying all my goods from a single place (ie one shipping charge & all goods arrive same time).

(on/off, on/fadeout, etc please make this option selectable by user if possible as it sounds great)

please pm me if anything can be arranged

thanks again

How about Dreamcast? I guess memory card support wouldn’t be there, but it’d be nice to have anyway.

Nope, can’t happen with this board. I will be looking into Dreamcast support over the summer, hopefully to include VMU support, but we’ll have to see. The only thing I can say for certain is that it won’t happen with this board directly, and there’s no chance of it happening at all until midsummer at best. If/when we get to that point, I’ll do my best to make integrating it with a Cthulhu as easy as possible, but there’s no point in speculating how, when, or even if.

The good news though is that the PSX support works on converters, including the Innovation DC converter.

The board I have in mind hasn’t been fully laid out, and the code for what I’ve described hasn’t been written yet. This is all a very much future thing, and there is no way in hell it will be done before SF4 is out.

As for Lizard Lick to carry it, well, we’ll see if he’s interested. The big thing about that lil’ board (Current name in my mind: FGWidget) is that it will be entirely open source, including code, schematic, PCB layout in EAGLE, Gerber files to have your own mass produced. So having LL carry it would be nice right up until the instant he realizes he could just make them all himself

how about a guide or pre built mod to allow upto 12 leds to function (on/off) with your current board?

and like be able to have a led in the control stick to activate when a direction is pressed.

i have a stick in mind to build and this would no doubt be of so much help to me.

Sorry, that’d take some time I don’t have at the moment. See if Kaytrim can build one for you; I know he knows how to do the stick part and can likely hook you up.

Now i feel like an ass for keeping the SNES compatability mode working on my CPS stick…

Toodles is correct. I can help you out with a board for the 12 LEDs plus set you up with the LED Joystick. Shoot me an email, kaytrimskustoms@gmail.com

Toddles,

Is there any other places, besides lizard lick, that I can get some screw terminals for your board? Im going to order a few DIY kits friday but he is out of stock…:frowning:

is the cthulhu board compatible with ps2 games via ps3 backwards compatibility?

You aren’t planning on stopping production on cthulhu boards anytime soon are you?

I have a few I could send if needed, pm me with how many you need. If you’re putting it together because he’s showing out of stock on assembled boards (damn, I can barely keep up with demand), I sent a crap ton of assembled boards off to him yesterday that should arrive by day after tomorrow.

All faq’s are listed in the first post.

???

Nope, no plans to end the Cthulhu. If and when I get Dreamcast figured out, there will have to be a separate board for it, and I will try to make using this hypothetical Dreamcast board alongside a Cthulhu as easy as possible.

Toodles:
Did you get my e-mail and pm?
