eh? If you wire it up with an MC and an Imp, the best thing to do is follow Bomberman’s tutorial, linked in the first post. When its done, you’ll use the original TE USB cable for PS3 or 360, and you’ll use the RJ-45 neutrik jack for everything else. Your gamecube cable (which definitely works on a Wii) will get an RJ-45 plug crimped onto it, and you just plug it into the RJ-45 jack and you’re done.
With a Chimp and 360 pcb, which pcb will be in use if I plug it into a PC with the autodetection? And is there a way to force it to use one or the other?
I’m planning a Chimp + 360 TE mod soon but I don’t have a PS3 to test the Chimp after everything’s put together so would like to use a PC to test it.
On a PC, the Chimp defaults to PC/PS3 mode. If you want to force it into 360 mode, hold down Short, Strong, and Roundhouse (middle punch, weak kick, hard kick) when plugging in. I put this in specifically so the 360 side could be tested on a PC, so you’re covered there.
Hey toodles, I don’t know if this is at all possible with a firmware update or something, but I had a thought the other day concerning the MC cthulhu…
I’m not 100% sure if this is even feasible, but I’m gonna ask anyway… would it be at all possible to map my un-used ps3 guide button to be the Right thumbstick click for xbox1 support ?
It would be a really handy function to have
Thanks Toodles. Can’t wait to test it out soon!
It’s totally feasible and possible, since Home’s not mapped to anything, I could set it to anything. But, the right thumbstick click is just Select+Jab. Check the mappings ‘spoiler’ in the first post.
If you can come up with anything useful for the Home button on Xbox, I’ll definitely consider putting it in for the next revision, but I think it might be better if it wasn’t something already easy to do.
Hello all,
I apologize if this has been answered before. I started out reading this thread since 9am this morning and only managed to get to page 40 and it’s already 6pm and I’m exhausted…
My intention is to mod my TE stick so I can use it on PS2 / Wii and (yet to be purchased) PS3
Questions
#1 ChImp is Cthulhu and Imp together in one.
There is no Multi-Console (Xbox, PSX/PS2, Gamecube) support with the ChImp.
Will there be a MC ChImp in the future? It seems to be more convenient.
#2
Toodles mentioned that after installing the cthulhu. It will default to PS3/PC mode when plugged into the PC unless you hold three buttons together.
Can this behavior change? I think the TE xbox pcb offer more function like turbo which I actually use. Having to hold 3 three buttons everytime I plug into the PC seems very troublesome.

It is advertised on LL’s website that no soldering is required for the assembled MC cthulhu. However, the link to bomberman’s SE/TE stick tuturoial indicates that there are plenty of soldering required if you want to install MC cthulhu to the stick.
So why is it advertised as no soldering required. Please excuse my n00b question because I’m not good at electronics at all.

To do what I wanted, I assume I need to get the following, right? (and soldering iron, solder, drill?)
Toodles Cthulhu PC/PS3 Board Multi-Console Version $34.95
Toodles Imp Board $10.95
Neutrik NE8FDP RJ45 Feed-Through $9.95
USB A/B Cable, 6-inch $4.95
PSX extension Cable [ dont see this listed on http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/boards.shtml ]
GC extension Cable [ ditto ]
Thanks in advance
- No. The extra pins on the chip can be used for the extra consoles in the MC, or controlling the Imp switch, but not both.
- No. There is no way to detect PC versus PS3. They look identical to the Chimp. If you would prefer the 360 to control when on a PC, I think using a plain Imp would be a better choice, especially on a TE (so you can use the cool slide switch)
- There is no soldering needed to install an assembled Cthulhu into a stick for PS3/PC functionality, by itself. Dual modding is something entirely different.
- I don’t know why you would need the 6 inch USB cable. You’ll also need wire of course (recommend 24 gauge stranded), and RJ-45 ends to crimp on the end of the extension cables.
If I order an MC Cthulhu from lizardlick can I install and use it for gamecube/ps2 it without soldering? (either is fine but not having to borrow a soldering iron from my friend is a time saver)
Nope. Any console cables to decide to install will require soldering to the MC. You could also decide to just solder an RJ-45 jack to it once, and then any other console cables you decide to make and use wouldn’t require any soldering, just crimping an end on an extension cord.
Thanks for the heads up, was planning on using the RJ-45 method.
LOL, I feel a little silly now…
Thanks for the heads up on that
I still think it would make a great button in its own right… but it could be problematic for people that use the S+S=H shortcut ?
I agree with you in that it’s nothing I can’t press easily already. Jab+select it is then
Many Thanks for the reply
I don’t care for simultaneous functionality or anything, the idea of just making extension cables sounds more accessible and appealing. The assembled MC already appears to have the RJ-45 port on it, or am I mistaken?
I have a 360 TE and want to find out how much work is going to be needed if I want to have 360 functionality and be able to use the stick for Gamecube, PS2, PS3. I just don’t want to mess up my TE in the process.
It does not have an rj-45 port on it, only a usb port. In order to connect a cat. cable you would have to solder to the rows of holes between the chip and the usb port.
I just did two Chimp installs in two TEs. I noticed that one of them will restart the XBox360 if it is left plugged in when it is turned off. As soon as it goes off, it reboots. The other one doesn’t do this. Everything else is working just fine. I am wondering if anyone else has seen this kind of behavior before and knew a solution. It’s not a big deal to unplug it before turning off the system.
Thanks.
Toodles, I’ve got a question about the voltage on the Multi-Console Cthulu board. My friend has bought a Happ Perfect 360 joystick to put into his MAS Stick and wants to do an upgrade to his stick for multiple consoles. Does the MC Cthulu provide 5V for all consoles (PlayStation 2 and 3, Gamecube, Xbox 1) or just for the PS3 and Xbox 1?
I have to admit, this is baffling. Based on how it works, the original TE pcb would have to be trying to press Guide during that time. I don’t have an answer for you on this one, and I haven’t heard of anyone else having this problem.
It will be about 4.8v on PS3/PC/Xbox1 and Gamecube. It’d be about 3.1v on PSX. The p360 will work just peachy on everything else, but I can’t swear it’d work perfectly on the PSX. If you want to provide an perfect 5v on every console, you’ll need to add a voltage regulator like this one:
You and me both. I went through with a magnifier and checked for any soldered shorts, stray stranded wires, etc. I’ve checked the whole setup for short circuits, grounded guide button, and anything that could make it do that. I can say it doesn’t appear to be pressing the guide button from the guide input as I monitored that during the power down/up event off of the TE board.
That leaves the TE PCB sending the guide signal randomly from its control chip or something else causing the data lines to behave like the guide signal - but only right at power loss. I think I would have seen the dashboard pop up a few times if the TE PCB was going Guide crazy though. shrugs It is a first run Round 1 TE - those did have a few PCB issues, maybe it’s another one…
That stick was done for a friend of mine. I’ll let him put it through the paces to see if anything else shakes out before doing more debugging. I’ll just tell him to unplug it before turning off his Xbox.
Oohh. Thanks for that link and the information Toodles! I’ll let my friend know that he should pick one of those up so he can play Guilty Gear XX Accent Core without a hitch on his PlayStation 2.
I’ve got a new one I’ve been able to reproduce consistently on my declared working fully build. If you lock out the Guide/Turbo area on a Xbox360 TE with the Chimp mod, hold down the actual Guide button for about 10-15 secs. then unlock the Guide/Turbo area, the Start+Back Guide shortcut no longer works until the Xbox360 is powered off. Is this how things should work? Start+Back produces the Guide input all the time otherwise until I do this. Does it in Windows, too, after forcing the TE board to be the active side.
