The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

I’ve got a question about the new(er) chimp board. If I were to buy an xbox TE and throw one in there, would I get full use of the stick on both consoles or would the PS3 version be limited in it’s functionality somewhat?

What I mean by that is: would I lose the turbo functionality and other things that may be specific to the madcatz PCB? I doubt I’d ever use turbo, but I’m just curious.

You’ll have Turbo for Xbox 360, but not for PlayStation 3.

That’s what I figured. Thanks for the quick response. It wouldn’t be a loss to me really. I’m actually really glad that chimps are coming to lizard lick. I want to order a 360 round 2, throw a chimp and an octo gate in it, and start throwing punches.

That’s the plan at least.

Hey guys, just letting you know that we’ve got the Chimps in stock and they are now live on the site…

Thanks,

Chad

Toodles, how come you’re selling the disassembled Chimp board? Didn’t that not do so well with the MC Cthulhu?

A question on wiring two PCBs with an imp: How should I wire the Guide/Home buttons to switch between the two? I’m using a MC Cthulhu and a Pelican 360 PCB.

Sorry about that! Ground, guide…they both start with g.

Let’s consider this a test run; I can always make the next batch assembled for pretty close to the same price. Practically, using a Chimp to its fullest requires soldering, no two ways about it. So part of the reason is the same reason the Imp’s are all sold by me as kits; if assembling it is a drawback for the customer, they shouldn’t be getting one in the first place. Another part is that the cost of the chimps is much more in line with where the Cthulhu kits should have been priced in the first place; they were simply too cheap for all of the work that goes into them. Lastly, the boards were designed and ordered before the code was done, so I didn’t want to get them assembled for fear of having made a mistake and losing mad money on a bad batch.

We’ll have to see how this run goes to see if they’ll remain kits or go assembled. If they end up being too much of a PITA with people not assembling them wrong and blaming the hardware, then the future batches may be assembled so they can be tested first before sale.

You want to consider editing that before someone believes you.

Mune: Connect the Guide/Home signal to the point labelled Guide on the Imp.

hahahaha, I’m tired!

I really hate to ask but since I recently ordered a ChImp board, where can I find a “how to” guide? I understand the process may be cut and dry but my knowledge is still very limited. Thanks

Thanks for the reply Toodles! I thought that’s how the wiring needed to be set up (since it was explained in the instructions that came with the Imp), but for whatever reason my computer isn’t seeing the 360 controller nor are the lights on the PCB lighting up. I’ll check the connections with a multimeter and try it on a 360 just to be sure.

Is the chimp board mc or just ps3/pc? If just ps3, will there be plans in the near future to make one?

I had this question in my head yesterday and searched ftw. However I can understand as it took me a good minute to find the information.

Being the nice guy I am however: PS3/PC only and there will be no MC Chimp since the Chimp uses up all the pins on the chip.

Thanks for the info! I can’t use the search function on the iPhone.

I second this, are there any guides available or does the Chimp come with clear instructions and diagrams?

thanks

The sheet that comes with it does give the pinout of the unlabelled holes on the end and where it should go on a 360 pad, but I dont have clear diagrams or instructions done yet.

If you haven’t dual modded with a cthulhu before, please wait until they’re ready.

I recently dual moded my 360 stick. where would do you wire the usb?

Your post is rather vague. If you’re asking about the Chimp, the four USB wires where the cable originally went to the 360 pad would connect to spots on the unlabelled holes, one for ground, one for power, one for D+ and one for D-. The outgoing USB cable would be soldered to the other end for a dedicated USB cable like a TE, or a soldered USB jack for custom cases.

Ah, okay. Thanks for answering that. Btw as for assembling the Chimp, isnt it pretty much the same thing as a Chtulhu? I haven’t soldered a Chtulhu board but everything looks the same to me.
