The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

ahh i see where i went wrong facepalm thanks bro

Marcus,

Glad to see that finals are done. I am starting to clear a few things off my plate too. We will have to get together on IM sometime and discuss our little project. :wgrin:

Michael

Grats on finals being over! Best of luck with the results!

Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us with that Spring term freed up. Though I will say that the 2x that intrigue me most are the 360 + sixaxis helper and the MC Cthulhu work. (Additional consoles + reset bug) Any particular console support you had in mind for the MC Cthulhu?

On the topic of the 360+Sixaxis adapter, I was ordering up parts to wire up a Wireless 360 PCB (1st party Late model) for my first wireless stick. Knowing that down the road I’d like to use such an adapter, is there anything I should keep in mind or ā€œleave openā€ when assembling/wiring/soldering this so that installing such a board down the road wouldn’t have too much trouble?

I realize that you probably have yet to even start on this board, but if you have any plans already in mind for how it’d interface with the 360 PCB I wouldn’t mind hearing em. ^^;

EDIT –
So, i just noticed for trade in prices: "Uncut original full marquee for Garou:MOTW: Soul. "
I won’t lie, i’m rather curious what 1.5 trade-in value on 1x soul would be.

Oh man, I am all for that PS bugfix and new console support. Didn’t you mention the Saturn a while back? That would be pretty fantastic given the Vs. games on the console and all the shooters! Though my question about that would be how would the end user add in another console to a board that already has all three solder rows full up?

Cat-5 cables or some other form of modular connections.

Michael

Toodles, I narrowed the problem down to the Imp. The MC Cthulhu and 360 PCB both function fine on their own. When they’re connected, I can only get the MC Cthulhu to show up. Is there any way I could get a replacement Imp?

But it’s not showing up as the bootloader anymore? If that’s the case, try resoldering the 360 data lines at the imp. Kaytrim, gl0ry, and I all had similar problems and that was the culprit.

So I got the 360 TE PCB hooked up as primary and the MC Cthulhu as secondary (by use of the RS switch).

I drilled out all my holes and mounted the RJ-45 hookups, etc, etc…

When I solder the end of the RJ-45 cable (7 little wires) to the MC Cthulhu and hook my PS2 cable up to the console it’s just gonna work? Right? I heard Toodles seems to think that might be a problem? Seems like the PS2 cable is going to use the MC-C only and ignore the IMP/360 PCB.

Here are some random pics of me modding:

How ya like mah custom hole job? haha

It seems that only the # 1 position on the Imp actually works. The Imp isn’t switching to the # 2 position even when the LS-DP-RS switch is in the correct position (and yes, the switch/360 PCB work).

And yeah, the bootloader problem must have been from the Start and Select buttons shorting. Got that part sorted out, at least.

This confused me a bit but let me ask if this would work:
I take each wire that should be in pin 1 and connect (solder) them together. I then do the same for the wires that go to pins 2-8. Then I take new wires and solder onto the bundled connections and extend those to an RJ45 jack.

I’m not quite sure how this new-fangled electricity thing quite works though, I’m curious as to if the power going to the non-used ends would interrupt anything.

That’s correct.

No interruptions there! Just don’t use more than one plug at the same time and you’ll be fine.

Haha, I assumed the person I replied to was a knowledgeable modder, so that’s why I used fewer words. Your explanation is better for the less experienced!

Went ahead and did this and it works great on GC and PS2. My Xbox died a while back so I can’t test that one. No need for a box or anything either, got the connections almost as thin as the cable.

When I get to it, SNES and NES will be the first, just because they are easiest.

Using the board I envision would be a serious undertaking; there won’t be any super easy plugging in, it’ll me a whole ton of wiring. With that said, I’m planning on it pretty much being just the common ground variety of MS wireless pad.

I’m an atheist, so I think the metric conversion of 1.5 souls is about 4.8 pints of angel farts.

Saturn’s been asked, and the only answer I have is that I simply don’t know if it will be possible for a number of technical reasons. No promises, no plans.

Did you short the unlabelled jumper on the bottom of the Imp?

Congrats.

Second ChImp wired up and works great. Start + Select = Home functions on both PS3/PC and 360 modes, again…nice job with this man, so goddamn easy and the autodetection is a sick option (I think I’ll eventually do another pad with it, then there will be 2 in the world ).

Quick pic of the install, notice the nylon washer this time? That’s because the end header points A and 1…yeah don’t want to short those guys.

Any chance you’re working on classic controller support(and if so adapting it for the UPCB:wgrin:)?

Yes, but its going to be a tad difficult so I dont have an ETA.

I’ll be waiting patiently, just want to get some samsho anthology going…

(1) That’s a cleaaaaaaaan job. I’m jealous. You’ve definitely convinced me to wait for the ChImp boards before I do my mod. The idea of only finding space to mount one board and have it as clean as yours has me sold.

(2) Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but I gotta ask 2 things; (a) what’s up with all this start+select = home/guide? I’m probably mistaken, but I thought there was a spot for home on cthulhu… (b) what’s up with autodetection? your comment about only 2 in the world makes it seem like it’s complex, but I’d love to have this done when I finally put a ChImp in my TE fightstick…

That’s a very clean setup. I’m definitely going to wait for this ChImp board!
