The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

Great… will be sending you a pm soon for my orders…

i wont be able to update my xbox or the other 2 my roomates have(or sign in xbl for that matter). He didn’t pay the internet bill for 2 months and now its been disconnected. Been without internet for 2 weeks now. I tested the chimp on one of my roommates halo edition xbox and the same problem occured. I’m just going to wait until the replacement comes and retest. I’ll get system details then if it still doesn’t work.

I’ve got a 360 TE stick and a Cthulhu, I want to make the stick work with PS3. I understand what I am to plug where, but where do I get the plugs to put them in the Cthulhu? Each button has two plugs going into a PCB, which goes to another, to the USB cable that goes out of the stick. Do I cut open the USB cable and use those wires inside to plug into the Cthulhu?

Hello, I am planning to buy a preassembled PS3/PC Cthulhu + Imp board from gamingnow.net.

Are there any other parts I need besides the PS3/PC Cthulhu and Imp boards themselves?

For someone who has 0 modding experience whatsoever, what’s the difficulty (from 1-5) when installing these into a MadCatz X360 TE stick?

I’d like to use this on my PS3, but I’m a bit intimidated when it comes to modding my stick.

Thanks.

1, 2 if you don’t know how to solder.

hmm… I would say it could possibly be more like a 3-4 for someone who doesn’t know how to solder. Some people have trouble with that.

But it’s not impossible for someone with no soldering/modding experience. Just go slow, follow directions carefully, and make sure you read the guide before you start to know exactly what you’re getting into.

This.

Even for those with tons of experience, trying to get things like this done fast will only result in bad things that can be prevented by taking your time.

I agree that it’ll be more like a 4 for someone without soldering and mod experience. Mostly because that’s a lot of things you’ll be learning at once as you go along. Again, just take it slow and if you have questions… just ask or check the FAQ, don’t guess.

Until I made my first stick, I also had zero modding skills. I had a little wiring experience before and some general electrical knowledge but had never soldered.I haven’t done the dual-mod yet, but it looks to be pretty easy once you have soldering down.

I probably spent a good hour or two soldering/desoldering wires and things on an old 56k modem before I ever touched the iron to the Cthulhu. I checked every solder joint with the multimeter to make sure the continuity was good, to make sure my method was working. I highly recommend getting comfortable soldering before attempting the dual mod. Without that, I would say it’s a 5.

Alright, thank you for the replies guys.

I’ll be sure to look back for reference =)

To Toodles or anyone that can help me. I recently had a dual-mod made for me that has a hacked microsoft wired controller PCB in it and a cthulu. My only issue is that when I press all 6 buttons down at the same time it will pause the game for me acting as if I pressed start which I am definitely not doing. It does this for both the PS3 and the 360. Any help appreciated.

Just got the cthulhu board and the imp as well. At first glance I know I have to assemble the imp board according to the positioning on the actual board itself. What I’m asking is which side of the board should I form the joints? I’ve seen pictures of various imps all soldered differently, and just from a first look, I personally think it’s easier to solder it from the underside, but does it really matter?

you missed the golden rule. MS pcbs are not common ground. You’re going to need to get the madcatz or a common ground 360 pcb for dual mod to be done correctly. AFAIK.

I’ll try and remember to check that small chip tonight. If it is the wrong chip then that could explain why the 360 didn’t work. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Micahel

edit I have the 4066 chip so no need to send me a new one.

If you’re talking about the wires from the buttons and/or hacked MS pad, then no, it doesn’t matter which side you solder from. Just use whichever sides will make your positioning of the cthulhu easier in the box.

Thanks for that clarification.
I was actually talking more about assembling the IMP to begin with. I know I have to place the chips in their respective positions on the IMP board, and my question was aiming more at: to solder the chips in place, can I do it from either the top or bottom or each joint.

after you place it in the PCB? Do it from the under side where the pins are sticking through.

oh, sorry!

Each leg of the chip has a different output, so you should put the chip on top of the silk outline and solder the legs from the bottom.

Thanks for all your help guys! I just got the wire I needed today too, so modding here I come!!

Well I’m pretty sure it is common ground and it is a Microsoft controller. It might be a madcatz but nonetheless there is a wire connected to the GND spot on the cthulu. Only one GND has to be connected, correct? So since the 360 controller is common ground what the hell is the issue?

Is there anyway to force the chimp into 360 mode? Forcing ps3 mode is short + strong + roundhouse?
