The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

Thanks, but I’ve checked lizardlick and gamingnow.net. I don’t really want to buy from a european store because of the cost of shipping…

anyways… the imp board is temporary out of stock… I was wondering if toodles has sold to oher places where we can buy.

other wise… i’ll just have to wait…

You can always order stuff from me, but only if its listed in the first post of the thread with a price.
I can tell you for certain that there is a large box of MC’s and Imps on their way to GamingNow.net already, and hopefully one on its way to LizardLick shortly.

you da man toodles… keep em’ stocked!

MC Cthulu problem: I’ve got the rj umm… thingy where the back/select button would be so for some odd reasong it presses select whenever I press start. how do I stop that?

Check it on a PC, in the control panel applet. Tell me which numbers light up when you press Start, and which number light up when you press Select.

It’s not recognized, are there drivers I should have installed?

Toodles,
The ChImp works great on the PS3 but the two 360 consoles I have tried is all fail. Console is powered up when the stick is plugged in. I also tried the three button combo (k1, p2, k3) and still nothing. My Laptop is acting crazy so I can’t check it how. I’ll try and get someone to let me test out on their PC and get back to you. Do you need anything off the 360 consoles.

Michael

Uh, no. It sounds like you’ve got some problems, but haven’t offered up any information for me to be able to point you in the right direction. Details, photos, description of the stick, of the wiring, of what works, of what doesn’t work, etc.

You really need confirmation that the 360 side works outside of autodetection before we can point any blame at the chimp, since that’s all the chimp will do on a 360. Of course a PC is the best way to do that, but that’s out.

Do this: pop out the 4066n chip. Use a small piece of wire to jumper pins 8+9 together in the IC socket of the 4066 you just removed, and another piece of wire to jumper pins 10+11.

If it doesn’t work on the 360 with those jumpers, then there’s a pad or a wiring problem, and the cthulhu is completely eliminated from the equation.

got the chimp board today and got everything wired up correctly, but nothing is working. I’m a bit confused right now because all the wiring is done right and I’ve checked for shorts. The only thing I think is the problem is the chip. Not the pic, but the other chip. You’ve mentioned that it should be a 4066 chip, but you shipped me a 74HC14n chip (a hex inverter chip). Was this a mistake?

Oh fuck. Yes, yes that’s a mistake.
Fuck fuck fuck. I swore I looked them over before stuffing bags, but I grabbed one and sure as hell it has a 14 in it.
Kaytrim, you should check yours as well to see if you got a 14 or a 4066n and let me know so I can send a replacement if needed.

I’m sorry gummoned. I’ll get a replacement out asap. And let me guess; yours didn’t have a socket, so the inverter is soldered to the board, ya?

Fuck this is gonna hurt the pocket book. I’ma gonna have to go through and replace everyone that bought a beta.

im in the process of desoldering the chip right now…but its so hard to do so with the pcbs you use. I have several spare 4066n chips (hef4066bp to be exact, but the datasheets say they are pin to pin compatible) so i just need to manage to get that hex chip out. sucks that the board didnt have the dip socket.

I got my chimp in today and was gonna start modding a stick with it on Sunday. I guess I should wait then since the wrong chip was sent.

uh, yea… I already soldered the chip on with no socket… Should I attempt to remove it? and how should I go about doing that?

okay heres my situation right now. I removed the hex chip and soldered a hef4066bp chip to the board. I checked both datasheets for the two chips and their pin numbers are identical, but the board still didn’t work. So I took that chip off and connected pin 8+9 and 10+11 together, which got the 360 TE to turn on and work fine. I then unconnected those pins and connected pins 1+2 and 3+4 together which got the chimp board to become recognized and the buttons worked fine.

So the problem I’m having is most likely an auto detect problem. I checked the voltage on pin 5 and 13 when plugged in my laptop and 360, they both read 5v while pin 6 and 12 were 0v. When I held down the 3 buttons to do the forced bypass, pins 6 and 12 were 5v and pins 5 and 13 were 0v. Basically the problem here is that it will go only in ps3 mode unless you hold down the bypass buttons.

Just check the smaller chip. If you got the wrong one, which you likely did, the second line of writing on the chip will have ‘74HC14’ on it. That’s the wrong one.
I’m grabbing the kits I have and replacing the chip with two 4066n’s to get ready to send out as replacements. If you haven’t assembled the one you have, or can desolder the incorrect chip from the board, then congratz, free chimp for you.

Totally up to you. Check for youtube vids about desoldering? But, you wont have to. Just wait for the replacement if you dont want to deal with it.

That is a problem. Do me a favor and make sure the box is signed into Live (makes sure its the most recent dashboard), on the dashboard and not in a game. And the 360 is on, naturally.
If you have all of those verified, then load me up with information about the 360. Anything that might be relevant. Model number, any mods done to it, front USB ports and/or back port, any intervening USB hubs, anything so I can try to duplicate it.

I went digging through the paypals, and as far as I can see, three folks would have gotten then incorrect chimp chip:
Gummowned, Spektrum, and the guy with the trade involving Mario Galaxy.
I’ll be boxing up replacements now. If anyone else I missed got the wrong chip, please let me know so I can get it straightened out. Orders from masturfader and tonight’s SLC customer will have the correct chip for certain.

I checked the chip and def have the wrong one. I didn’t assemble anything, so I’m good there.

Open beta?

Is the chimp beta still open?

What’s the details?

Need more testers?

Thanks.

/oops - meant to PM this.

nice job on the board and imp… Any possibility of accomodating orders in the Philippines?

Yes. If it breaks, you keep both pieces. Sure.
All ordering information including the chimp is in the first post.

Sure. Shipping for ‘rest of world’ is listed in the first post.
