I have the ChImp assembled but when I plug it in to my PC it fails to setup. The message I get is “An error occurred during the installation of the device. The system cannot find the file specified.” I checked the orientation of the resistor packs, chips and caps and everything is they it is supposed to be. There isn’t even anything connected to the board.
^^^ I had one do this once, and if I remember right it had something to do with the soldering/wiring near the USB port. But I can’t really remember what I did to fix it.
Well the problem is my laptop computer not the ChImp. I plugged it into another PC and it was recognized right away. Still had the problem with the laptop. I am seriously thinking that it is the laptop. I had a MC Cthulhu plugged in there that kept locking up on me. Now it doesn’t work at all.
What way do I wire up the buttons and stick on an MC Cthulhu. I have the pin out so I know where each button and direction is meant to go. But it’s the ground that’s confusing me. Where does each ground go?
Regarding the ChImp: I’m assuming the unlisted contact points are for connecting other PCBs, and that the multiconsole cable connections are now removed?
Yes, they are for connecting to the other pcb(s), but it doesn’t have to be there. For instance, the unlabelled hole for ‘Up’ is directly connected to the ‘Up’ screw terminal spot. You can use whichever you prefer for connecting the ‘Up’ signal on the other PCB, same as the cthulhu. There are more of the unlabelled holes on the ChImp though, since I made a hole for the D+ and D- from the other board.
Yep. Chimp is PS3/PC only. It just doesn’t have the capability to do other consoles. If you need more, you’ll need an MC Cthulhu and an Imp, and won’t have autodetection.
Glad to hear it. Congratz on having the very first. Please plug it into as many PC’s, PS3’s and 360’s as you can and let me know if you run into any problems.
Not gonna happen. Its not a pin issue, its a USB issue. For the autodetection to work, the chip has to understand USB. Trying make a board that is JUST an autodetecting Imp would be the same cost and size of the chimp, so it might as well do the PS3/PC stuff and be a full chimp.
