I have a question about working with the IMP board.

When assembling my IMP board I put the chips the wrong way. I wired everything up and obviouslly it diddnt work. The Stick pwered on, but was not recongnized.

I went and noticed I had put the chips facing the wrong direction. I un-did them and soddered them on the right way.

Still not recognizing the stick. Did I mess up the IMP by plugging it in with the chips inverted.
Do I need to order another IMP.

I am just hoping I diddnt mess up my PCB’s.

Toodles will MC Cthulu ever support the Saturn? I know a firmware update is all that is needed, but is one expected? :S

The thick black one is not needed, it is the grounding wire for the outer metal part of USB. The ground that you are looking for is the thinner of the two.

I’ll post my multimeter results tonight Toodles, because I left it at work. I reseated the chip and I have been using a PC. However I have been using my Laptop which is really wonky, but it was portable to my work bench. When I carry my stick to my desktop, it reads unrecognizable usb device, for both. Which is better then no message at all, which was a simple problem before. I’ll do a search for the ā€œunrecognizable usb deviceā€ before asking for more help here.

I am getting the same exact issue. I get ā€œunrecognizable usb deviceā€. But I did make a mistake before anything I put in the little chips that come with the imp reversed.

I am going to do Meter testing tonight when I get home. still don’t know if I killed the imp, or worst my PCB’s.

You think you can post if you discover your issue? I am not to handy with circuits and electronics. -_- But I can sodder pretty well.

That is what I mean. Are your tests both on the same PS2? Because I have heard reports of the cable needing to be plugged in after using a swap magic, and if the cable works at all, then there’s every reason to believe the cable is wired properly.

The first post of the Imp thread (http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=179629) has a link at the top for troubleshooting using a multimeter. Following those steps, you should be able to tell if anything got fried.

I can tell you that it is POSSIBLE that Saturn will eventually supported. I just can’t make any promises when that will happen. It is on the todo list, but definitely a long ways down.

Hi, Toodles. I was checking this picture and it seems like the distance between the G, A-F, and V columns is roughly 2.5mm.
If I wanted to install a screw terminal in one of 3 rows of holes in the MC Cthulhu; would this one fit? I checked its data sheet and it has a pitch of 2.54mm but the Cthulhu I ordered from gamingnow.net will still take a while to arrive so I don’t have my own board to check.

The spacing between columns is 2.54mm == 0.1" == 100 mils. As far as the pin spacing goes, sure, any 2.54mm pitch connector will work. What I’m worried about though is the post sizes. According to the data sheet, the posts are 1.1mm in diameter. Im pretty sure that won’t fit. If Im reading this right, the holes should be about 0.8 mm in size, and this is the best match I could find:

It’ll be a tight fit, but there’s at least a chance this one will fit, unlike the one your linked.

payment sent.

Thanks for the answer; I didn’t notice the diameter of the holes.

You may also want to consider getting two of these:

Each one is made up of four actual terminals, and an end cap. You can pop off the end cap of one by using an Xacto. Then, connect them together to form an eight terminal block. They have two pins for each terminal; they wont both fit in the cthulhu, so you’ll have to clip the front row of pins off (the pins closest to the eight orange push down tabs) with small clippers. After that, it’ll fit just fine, and I know the posts will fit in the holes (I have one here in front of me)

Good to know.

Yes, same PS2 no swap magic straight up retail disc. I’ve tried 2 separate PS2-> RJ-45 cables and still have to unplug/reinsert, but they both work with no issues on my custom.
I’ll try the TE out on friends PS2…

Thanks, I appreciate the help a lot. The coolest thing is that the site you linked offers first class international shipping so it won’t cost me a fortune like other sites I found

Old Post Deleted.

Edit: Fixed Toodles. I got off my lazy ass, spliced a USB cable and soldered it in the port area of the Cthulhu, and I played 5 hours of Street Fighter this night. Your boards are kick ass, and all error is user error. Now I have to weed out what my problem is with my MC solution.

So, i just saw someone post a stick that was using a MC cthulhu… i ended up buying a PS3 one quite some time ago, but just recently got around to putting it into a stick. im somewhat interested in getting a new chip for it, but im curious… i noticed it said there was some new diode that helps protect things in case its plugged into 2 consoles. but is that needed if you use the RJ45 method? that would prevent it from being plugged in to 2 consoles?

im basically curious if i can just get a chip for my old cthulhu board and be safe with it.

so I’m considering picking one of these up but, what is smash bros mode, and how does it work?

If I had some one put a Gamecube cord and PS3 cord on this, how hard would it be to hook it into a 360 TE stick?

Anyone sell them with the console cords already soldered already on the chuthlu?

I have a HRAP now for 360, but I was thinking of getting a TE as a second controller that I could also use with my Wii and PS3.

Anyone sell 360 TE sticks with Gamecube and PS3 cables already on them?

I know you can get a TE for $130 on Amazon. I would be willing to pay someone allot more for one that has the Gamecube cable and PS3 stuff working well.

In order to dual mod a SFIV TE Xbox360 stick with a Cthulhu and a Imp Board, do I have to buy a MC Cthulhu? Or would the normal Cthulhu work?

Yep, I have to do this on my PS2, whether I use Swap Magic or not. But mine also seems to not work with my Innovation Converter for DC, which is odd.

Awesome, got the IMP working. My madcatz SE now works perfectly in Xbox mode. And I am able to switch over to the cthulu. But the PC cannot recognize the Cthulu and neither does the PS3.

I know there is a a post to trouble shooting your Cthulu but I can’t see to find a link. Does anone have the link by any chance. Or if they have ran into this problem before and can comment that would be great too.

Edit: Does the Chtulu need and resistors when working with an IMO board? I’ve seen pics in tutorials where it has them, but they don’t mention it. And I did a Dual mod with 2 seperate USB cables for PS3 and Xbox and I diddnt need any resistors. Just a thought I had,
