hey man, are you still interested in Paper Mario GC and Tetris Attack? I have them and I’ve been looking to get rid of them for quite a while, however I don’t have the case or manual for Tetris Attack. I do still have the plastic cover though, and the sticker’s just fine. PM me if I could get $20 off of a board - I can also send you pictures. Paper Mario is in pristine condition with full packaging as well. thanks!
Yep, still looking for both, so that’d be $20 off an order.
I ordered 2 Cthulhu PC/PS3 Board Unassembled Kit on June 27 from Lizard lick. Do you know why it is taking them so long? I live in California. I emailed them once and they just sent me a link to there order update page and that was it. I just thought I would ask you. I went to them because somebody sent me this blog about a month ago.
Thanks
Michael
You’ll have to ask them about it.
Any ideas Toodles?
Got all the pacakges for Cygwin installed, if I run the .exe directly I just see a command prompt window open and close. Thats a sign to me that I need to run it from the command prompt, so I opened up the Cygwin Bash Shell and typed
./cstring.exe “Test” and the command works as if I try ./cwrite.exe like your directions said to do it says bad file name or something. So I guess you renamed the .exe without realizing it.
I tried holding right on the stick when I plug it in, and the computer installed a HID device, but it still shows up as a controller and works as a controller, I tried holding nothing and it does the same.
Then I tried holding left and it was a device windows didnt know what to do with, never found drivers.
So I must be close, just need to get the program to recognize the board now I think.

You have to hold Right on the stick when plugging in.
Edit: Right makes the board use a specific VID/PID when it starts up; the PID/VID that the program is expecting. If you just leave it in neutral, it will use a different PID/VID based on the custom string. Long story, but trust me that there is good reason. So have Right pressed when plugging it in for reflashing. Once its done, unplug and replug with the stick in neutral so you can see the new string come up. And holding Left puts it into Xbox1 mode.
Last call for pre-Evo orders! Any orders not in by midnight tonight won’t be shipped out until I get back from Evo, on the 21st.
Probably a stupid question, but are the PCB’s being sold at Lizard Lick and GamingNow MC Cthulhu’s or are they the plain janes because they don’t list them as the MC’s. Thanks.
Yeah I did that Toodles, I tried holding right, left, up, down, and neutral.
I tried holding right the entire time, tried holding right just until after the device is discovered. None of them work for me.
If I go look at the VID/PID in the device manager what should I see?
Did you have more than one version of your .exe? maybe the one I have is looking for a different device?
A i bought a CTHULHU board last week and, am still trying to install it. I was wondering if your going to able to install mine at evo i arrive there on Thursday night, di you think you will be able to install it for me. For a FEE ofcourse
GamingNow.net has both PS3 versions and MC versions of the kits (the one up top is the PS3 version. Scroll down for the ‘Multi-Cthulhu’ as he calls it.), but doesnt carry assembled MC’s by the looks of it. LizardLick lists the PS3 versions only at the moment. I know he has stock of the MC’s, but doesnt have them for sale yet.
VID: 14D8
PID: 101F
Both hexadecimal numbers.
I’m sorry, but I can’t. I’ll have boards to sell, but there is no way I’d be willing to give up Evo hours I could be spending spectating, practicing, or sleeping. There will be a number of techs there, so if anyone is willing to sell their services to help this guy, please do.
Id’s are correct.
all I can think of is the .exe I have is looking for something different or there is something up with my computer keeping it from working.

Im in the process of trying to download/install Cygwin on my netbook as it uses 32bit XP my desktop uses 64bit Vista so maybe thats the issue. So hard takes like 5 or 6 servers to find one that will give me all the d/l files without failing to connect after getting half of them. Plus it starts all over again when you use a new server
I noticed the libusb file says Win32, so that maybe the problem right there, its maybe not 64bit compatible.
Edit: no love under XP still the same “no compatible device” error. Strange I could only use cstring.exe if I typed ./cstring.exe it said bad command or file name, but both worked under Vista.
Do you have the original cwrite.exe you wrote the tutorial on?
got my cthulhu and imp …
worked 1st try but i thought it would be easier … the last time i had a solder iron in my hands was at least 5 years ago
got this but also getting a “no compatible device” error
tried it with win cmd and cygwin
I just used the exact executable from the .zip to reflash my brand new MC last night. The PID/VID given earlier is verified as the one the MC uses when the stick is held right when plugged in. I checked the source code and verified it uses that PID/VID to locate the cthulhu and send the commands.
Seems we are missing something then, between simply installing Cygwin and running the command there must be another step or process/program you have installed to make it work.
Is there a certain place you had the files or a certain way you executed them?
Also - Now for some good news!
Racer S a while back made something called XBOX 360 Controller Emulator v3.0, what it does is take any windows gamepad and fool games into thinking its a xbox 360 controller.
I just dropped the files in the SF4.exe folder and started the game and Walla! All the buttons work now including start and this means we can officially say the Cthulhu MC works with SF4 PC (with the aid of this emulator) the issue I have now is it will only detect one of the two boards while windows see’s them both. I have a feeling thats because they have the same name?
I’ll look into it more as I go.
Update: got both joysticks working in game!
I had to disable all the HID devices other than my 2 controllers, seems my Saitek Gamers keyboard was causing a conflict. Also had to manually add an entry for the 2nd controller in the .ini file for the controller emulator and change its index #. There are no directions on how to do this so you just have to look at the file and see how its laid out and figure it out on your own.
I plan on bringing SIXAXIS adapter boards, Imp kits, and assembled cthulhus with me. If you are wanting to buy cthulhu kits in person, please speak up now so I can bring them with (Reinuki and Toshin, your kits are already set aside).
so currently i’m facing a small problem installing a Gamecube controller (Official Nintendo brand) to the MC Cthulhu. I’ve gutted one of the dead controllers that was sitting in my room for awhile. I open the wires up to find:
Red
Yellow
Blue
Green
White
So I thought ok… I’ll take the red, yellow, and blue wires and solder them in. I followed the instructions accordingly on the instructables page. once they were soldered in. I try to connect to the Wii to test if it works, only to find that I get no response whatsoever.
Now the question of concern, are the wires completely different from the extension cables. because I noticed on the instructables page there’s 6 wires, yet the official gamecube wires only have 5 O_o
But you missed the page of the Instructable where it told you how to pin out the cable to find out what wires you needed? It’s in Step #1. I tried to point that out when you first asked and I told you you needed to pin out the cables because you can’t count on the colors of the wire: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=7077802&postcount=2266
Toodles I figured out what was causing the short in the Madcatz Retro PCB. Some tiny stranded wires left over from the giant Atari joystick thing were touching. What a relief! Now the Cthulhu and Retro pad are finally working in harmony.
ok i found my problem and corrected it. i referred to this guide and it worked well for me http://www.int03.co.uk/crema/hardware/gamecube/gc-control.htm
in the instructables page about activating Smash Bros. mode. I’ve tried holding 1p and 1k as mentioned and it didnt seem to be working correctly (it’s giving me the default controls as you would insert the gamecube controller normally, but not giving the analog movement in game). the other modes by holding 2p and 2k, and 3p and 3k seem to work but with different effects and gives full analog movement.
everything else works fine in GC mode but smash lol.
